I started lifting when my father passed away last year, I don't listen to screamo, I listen to blind melon. I can totally relate and that is how I lifted it hits home. The controlled anger, sadness, pain. Is all expressed through lifting a weight as some fucked up meditation. I have never told anybody what has fuelled me. You can tell when you look at someone, the people that train like that they have that inner motivation, every rep is so difficult you want to quit but that fire is burning inside you and forces you to keep going. It's almost unexplainable, picking heavy stuff off the ground as therapy.

Mark, I absolutely love how you try to show us more than just the pure lifting side of the guests you have in your videos. It's shows us the lifters personality, gives an insight into their mind and their experiences. Stuff like this, just hearing guys like George and Ed Coan voice their thoughts on the mental side of lifting, is more inspirational than any simple lifting video.

George has an astounding amount of heart. You see it in his face before each heavy set. He literally looks offended by the barbell and treats it like his worst enemy. Truly inspiring to know the dark tales behind his insane lifts. Definitely a favorite for anyone who has been through horrendous events and uses that to push forward.

I lift because I made a lot of mistakes in the past 42 years. Bad mistakes with my health and relationships, all my fault. Powerlifting got me back on a regular schedule, made me choose between partying, fuckin my life away gettin nowhere. It helped me overcome the nutritional lies that I chose to believe growing up subjected to the gluttony that is American eating...and only getting worse for kids today entering the same cycle that I was influenced by, and understand my metabolism better than ever before. It brought me closer to my family and made me aware of the hurt I caused my family and friends as I rehabbed myself through lifting and choosing to deal with things soberly through the iron. Lift on, lifters, handle those issues through the iron challenge, and don't shy away from the self awareness powerlifting can bring. God Bless you all...I get to deadlift tomorrow. Goodnight.

Silence the voices in your head through the process of overcoming the iron laid out before you. Do it for the one's you love, the one's you've lost, the one's you'd do ANYTHING for, and the one's you'd give anything to bring back. Pour that passion into THIS lift, and I promise that you will have command of that weight set before you, and ANYTHING that's placed in your way throughout your life. Mark should start a separate channel called Therapy WOD. It would have guided meditations that you play while you lift. Or he could ask Freudian questions while a patient hits a PR. But joking aside, I lost my parents recently and I know that lifting helps me.

This is serious and dangerous stuff he's talking about. For some years I lifted obsessing about all the things I couldn't make right in my life. At some point my workouts were 3 hours long, 6 days a week. I'd open the gym door and my hearing changed - as if I put my head under water - all sounds were muffled. Nothing phased me while in the gym, it was like dreaming with open eyes while doing flies with 90 lbs. and such. There was no pain and to me I was alone in that gym. Such a mindset is not good - working out your issues through lifting is very dangerous. It perpetuates the issues, at least in my case. One needs to know how to channel such a mindset. Hope that George here really knows.

Every individual can and will call upon things that have happened in their past as a source of motivation to become greater at their craft/ life's work. It doesn't matter in what field either, whether it be philanthropy, sports, medicine, social work, education, or even deadlifting enormous amounts of weight. Everyone's path deserves to be respected. Therefore, who are you to judge Leeman's mentality? He's one of the strongest men in the world, he's clearly proficient at his craft. There's no need for sarcastic, insensitive comments such as yours.
