Well done Kev and good luck for the rest of the year! I started doing 10,000 steps a day about 20 years ago after a medical check-up and agree very much with your findings, especially around mental health benefits and weight loss. I imagine you end up with a lot more muscle and a lot less flab. I aimed for 1 day off a week so 60,000 steps or for me about 27 miles a week. I still can manage that but record the walks on the OS app. If you want to lose weight as well you have to control the calories. In the last year I've managed to lose 20% of my body weight by cutting out sugar in the porridge, cakes, snacks etc and eating a lot more fruit and vegetables. I can still manage the 27 miles a week even though I've passed 80 but doing it in retirement is a lot easier than when I was working. Keep up the challenge because it will pay dividends for you when you get older. Regards Keith

@@welshrambler1893 fair play Keith, that's great stuff. I do need to cut out a lot of rubbish food and sweet stuff. Hopefully I'll do that this year.

Great effort on n the challenge Kev, day 200 is amazing! I bet it is pretty difficult finding time in the day some times to fit in all the steps but lots of positives there too. 😊

Well done, Kev. You've done well to stick with this for a full 200 days so far. Good to hear your thoughts about it too. The opposite can be said of fitness vs bodyweight too - i.e. lowering your body fat doesn't necessarily mean that your cardiovascular fitness has improved. Keep going!

Thats quite a commitment Kev. My aim was 100 miles a month, which is a lot less than you. But it means that if I have to miss a day or two, I can catch up, provided I havent left it too late in the month! theres been a few months where Ive had to do a 10 miler on the 30th of a month! Ive managed it for 3 years in a row now and its enough of an incentive to get out and exercise without making me a slave to it and killing the enjoyment. But once you get a way into it, I understand, you dont want to fail. Agree about the weighloss though, its not a magic bullet unless you keep up an uncomfortably high pace.

@@robg3545 cheers Rob. 100 miles a month for 3 years is impressive. A good 1,200 miles a year. How long do your shoes last on average?

@@TheWalkingKev Funny you should say. I ve gone through a couple of pairs of decent and pricey Scarpa's! I bought some cheap n cheerful ones for tarmac routes and that seems the answer ! Keep the expensive ones for offroad where theyre needed.

@robg3545 same. Variety of cheaper shoes for the pavements and local walking and boots and better trainers for off-road when the grip is needed and wears better.
