This is really what G2 should have been. Lego forgot affordability was the no1 factor why most kids got bionicle. My family was never too wealthy, but every Christmas id get a bionicle because they were in supermarkets for 7-10$
@Batard42069Ай бұрын
Wasnt it still 10 bucks for the small sets? Like guardians and the creatures
@StudSnobАй бұрын
@@Batard42069 But for 10usd you can have a nameless supporting character. Not cool. IMO the protectors would have been absolutely fine as toa. And I wish the G2 matoran were even smaller polybags.
@rizalpurwanto2230Ай бұрын
@@StudSnob THIS. Bionicle is kinda odd in that it's one of few toylines where collecting the 'Civilllians' are actually fun

this isn’t a fault of G2. it’s a fault of modern lego.

I think this is one reason I prefered Bionicle over traditional lego.

I like the idea of having hollow studs on these parts. That mkes them compatible with the shell system introduced in Hero Factory (CCBS), but also allows to use system to customise the builds. Genius!

I know that this prompt requires keeping the piece count small while maximizing functionality. But I think that the limbs need to come in 2 pieces, ends with the ball, and ends with the socket, that can lock into each other to form a short limb or use other technic parts to make any length you want, and most importantly, making limbs with two balls or two sockets. It means the initial batch will technically be more molds, but you wouldn't have to make 4 different size variations like with CCBS. However IF they still wanted the skeleton pieces to have unique molding, well now they could make new designs with only a quarter of a limb, or make an entirely new limb for that season, but mix and match it with the old ones. Though that part would be unlikely, a theoretical G3 would likely only see unique detailing through accent pieces added to the base structure.
@sssspiderАй бұрын
That torso ball joint isn’t gonna fly, it’s just gonna flop all over the place. Would make more sense if it was a hinge-style ball joint instead so it can have a nice ab crunch with some limited waist swivel.
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
Would it? I hope in any cast that Lego would be smart and actually play test a good socket, but anyway it serves it's purpose for the video
@Funky_Player2Ай бұрын
It's so entirely useless and only a detriment to play. Kids would quickly get frustrated having to constantly realign the torso during play. For any of these G3 "concepts" to truly work you'd have to stop thinking like a moc maker and think like an actual toy designer instead.
@RobleViejoАй бұрын
As I said in another comment: Ball Joints are bad on Bionicle figures because of the stiff plastic LEGO uses, if they were solid but slightly rubbery there would be no problem having Ball Joints

So many times I've been playing with my kid, or going through the store, and thought about how I wish there would be something like Bionicle. Those normal lego system build able figures/mechs just aren't the same, and some have pieces fall off easily. It doesn't have to be Bionicle, but something like this would be amazing.
@RobleViejoАй бұрын
This dude Skybird should patent these pieces ASAP because he legitimately has a Billion dollar product here

@Jasonwolf1495Ай бұрын
I still think the answer for bionicle is actually to ignore the kids lol. Big collectors line instead of a mass market series. They tried mass market with g2 I wanna see specialty for g3.
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
Why not both!! Several Lego themes introduce sets for younger audiences, and larger more complicated sets for older audiences too!! Lego could definitely make that work
@Jasonwolf1495Ай бұрын
@skybirdmakes i just dont think regular toa work anymore, especially with the price increases. It's better to just do a bigger collector set that has all 6 and or they're bigger titan styled figures.
@vast9467Ай бұрын
Lego is mostly an adults toy at this point anyways
@alexsanti2153Ай бұрын
You are a genius. This is almost perfection.
@Mike-mf3edАй бұрын
I’m surprised how fast you designed these (unless you planned on this project for a long time). This may be much to ask but I’m curious how a resin cast of that design would compare to other constraction pieces…
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
I think some of the scaling is slightly off since I mostly just created these for the video (meaning they're not quite print-ready) but they would be so much fun to play test and tinker with!
@harutakami1313Ай бұрын
part of me wonders how a Toa in the same style as the Marvel/DC construction figures would look. That face plate they use would make an interesting (and still interchangeable) mask option

I think you're close but the open stud near the socket should be a pin hole and for the torso they could simply use HF series 1 or slightly modified Ben 10 torsos.

This just proves my point. Lego doesn't need to make expensive molds. 3D printing is here. Bionicle can be made, they don't want to.

@NiallByrneАй бұрын
Really like the idea of these pieces. would be a great idea, if they were to bring back bionicle also those pieces could be used for the other buildable Figures. To me the biggest sell for these pieces is that they look like that would be technic and brick compatible. If I could, I'd like a slightly bigger upper torso piece. otherwise 10/10
@FluffyFailure0Ай бұрын
People may have complained about pieces being too smooth. And people may have complained about the newer Bionicles lack of complexity. But I think people want the core pieces to look good on their own, and let the outer shells complement the inner pieces with their simpler shapes. And furthermore, I think the problem with the lack of complexity, maybe due to the failure of creating multiple unique silhouettes using mostly the same pieces. The Tahu Mata accomplished this. But it didn't change the fact that they still had room for improvement such as with their lack of knee, elbow, and neck articulation.
@Alex-el4nvАй бұрын
Sadly, my first bionicle wasn’t one I grabbed off of a shelf. I inherited my brother’s Tahu uniter and Ikir.

Pretty good but i'd add a bit extra customizability to the limbs so you could make them longer.

I've seen that suggested and I agree! Of course I kept these simple for the sake of this video, but expanding on this idea further would be a ton of fun!

Make the torso wider so that the full G1 gear can fit on both sides.
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
That is absolutely an option too, and my hope is Lego would make wider versions for wider characters!
@LEO-730-d5kАй бұрын
i think the shoulders would need to be wider to give it the more clasic bionicle look
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
Oh I totally agree, but that's what is fun about a modular system, wider shoulders? Longer axles (or a wider torso mold to accommodate different builds)
@Greyscale_BricksАй бұрын
This cool
@bioshock3d-Ай бұрын
Looks great but the hips are too wide and shoulders not broad enough. That V shaped torso that has gone almost all thru Bionicle is key to the feel of Bionicle. I would like to see this design used on a Pohatu proof of concept.

I agree and I hope if this existed in a reality where we got Bionicle G3, that Lego would offer variable lengths of specific parts!

actually a big fan of this, g2 was a huge disappointment for me despite coming out at the perfect time to capitalise on the nostalgic resurgence of my bionicle obsession and I wish they had done away with the ball and socket armour connections to allow for more faithful armour aesthetics and customisation

What’s stopping Lego or you guys from just shrinking down Bionicle and HeroFactory parts into smaller scale like technic mini figure scale where the ball joints and sockets are small enough that you interact with mixel joints ?
@skybirdmakes21 күн бұрын
I've thought about this myself, and I think the main thing is the cost/tech available to the masses 3D printing is amazing, but the fidelity of small sockets could highlight some minor issues that are hard to account for at scale

Not gonna liew, that looks like first wave 2.0. And this is just turbo ass, these Parts realy dont have much opportunity to add armor and would just bring us those skin and bones Bionacles back.
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
Armor would have to be designed around pieces like this, though it is designed to be compatible with general Lego (in blender, so tolerances might need fiddling) overall I'm happy with it as a starting point for future projects
@Apple101012Ай бұрын
this just looks like some Bootleg product and not official lego, I know this is a fanmade design but seriously looks like non-official
@skybirdmakesАй бұрын
That's the thing about designing a new system, without strict adherence to one type of connection, it will usually look foreign. That said, the axle hole on the side of the limb piece sticking out is not something Lego usually does these days, but I did it for texture since ultimately this is meant to facilitate a Bionicle-like theme
