I've noticed jumping spiders in my apartment. I have an enclosure ready for the next time one shows up. Since discovering jumping spiders I see spiders completely different. When I feel something crawling on me when I'm asleep I stay calm, hold out my hand so it can crawl onto it and lower it down onto the floor to continue hunting. I know they're not trying to harm me.

I got in trouble when I was young and went away on a state paid holiday for a few years. It was not fun, and I wouldn't recommend it. One day I saw one of these little guys on my desk and caught it we made a terrarium for him and fed him flies. It was not allowed to "keep pets" as it could cause jealousness from the other inmates, but the guards laughed and let it stay. We kept him for most of the summer then let it go. I was surprised at how interesting these little spyders can be. That was thirty years ago, and I recently started watching Lucus the spyder with my little grandson. We caught one and have had him for about 2 weeks now. Thanks for the tips on keeping them. I learned a lot from just the few mins watching. Well done.

If I ever see a Bee that seems lethargic, and unable to fly, I try to feed it sugary water, and that usually perks them up a bit! (Take 1/4 teaspoon of sugar, add some water, and let the sugar desolve, then try to get the Bee to drink the liquid)

I got two regal jumping spiders recently. They spent about a month going in and out of moults, which was both worrying and frustrating as a first time owner. They are so interesting to watch... and they watch you too! Also, interesting to watch them stalk their prey. Mine have figured out that more often than not when I open the enclosure it means feeding and or water time. I've have not handled mine - too scared of losing them in the room. I think I have a male and female. One is certainly female. The other has all the hallmarks of a male... not fully mature but it does seem to have bulbous pedipalps forming while the tan female has thinner ones.

I love this update! It's so funny because we caught a little buddy just about a week ago and I was looking for an update on your last video, and here it is! We made a little terrarium for ours and he seems to be enjoying it (we don't actually know their gender but my son's been calling them "he" so I'm going with it). I would like to get him into something larger as I feel like he's getting a little bored, since ours was wild I feel like it's probably used to a lot of space to roam. I'm hoping it's enjoying the live plants at least. I did put some isopods in there, idk if he's going to try to eat them, so far we've only fed him a little cricket which was fun to watch him eat.

These spiders have really odd webs. Super strong, especially when they make a web hammock to moult in. I was cleaning out their juvenile enclosures after moving into bigger ones and I was surprised at the strength of their silk. But, I was also surprised that it is not really sticky like most spider silk I've encountered. I guess thats a result of being a spider that hunts it prey and uses the silk to create shelter for night time. These spiders literally get up and go to sleep and become fairly clockwork. But that might be because I turn their light on and off at fairly regular intervals. But it is cute watching them head back off to their silky bed for the night. Both of mine have at least two active hammocks in their enclosure. One to sleep in and at least one to hang out in during the day and watch from above. Periodically they abandon a home and create a new one.

Hi I am in the U.S. In calif. I have raised 1000's of regal jumping spiders, and even was a supplier to some stores for a while. I found that the males were more active, where the females after a while tended to make a really big nest in the upper corner of there house, and then would stay put. Every now and then you would see a flap open, and they would sit with a couple of legs hanging out. I would put a fly in, and it would go in to her nest; she would close the door, and then I would not see her for another couple of weeks. The males did not make very elaborate nests, and would be more active hunters. I wish you well with yours, and a happy life together. wes. 09-03-2022

i havent kept jumping spiders myself yet, but interacted with one at a friends place, and it's amazing just how inquisitive, interactive, observant and lively they are, and just really fun and cute. kinda reminds me of keeping betta or green spotted puffer fish. both definitely watch everything happening in the room. but fish don't tend to behave anywhere near as personable and ... just friendly as spoods. (betta are lazy, showy divas, that prefer to chill on a leaf near the surface untill it's feeding time, and can get REALLY upset if you're wearing something more colorfull than them .. this goes mainly for males, which are inbred to be ridiculously territorial. puffers look adorable, are super inquisitive and active ... and at feeding time, turn into what you'd imagine cartoon piranha to be like. they rip and tear within seconds, and when you're cleaning the tank, your fingers better not smell like clam!)

I have been exploring the possibility of getting one. But my major concern is the length of life they have… I’m a bit of a baby and tend to get attached to my pets so a year is a bit intimidating. My other concern is my location because I live in a small town and I do not have access to insects to feed since ones out in the wild could be contaminated. So I think a bit of putting together an insect farm before hand might be my best option since I wouldn’t just get one spider. Anyhow..I definitely live this video because you are a beginner and she is so adorable! Thank you for sharing! Any tips/suggestions welcome and appreciated!

When I was little, I was afraid of spiders. Where I live, you don't encounter them, like at all, you would have to go look for them. Later on in my life what happened was, I was idly listening to some video, radio or something where they described how the portia would spend time planning on how to solve a maze to get to its food, before starting the trip, having _memorized_ the route. I was like... It does _WHAT???_ That thing the size of a pea solves a MAZE? In its HEAD? Needless to say, I was awestruck, fascinated. They have like some hundreds of thousands of neurons, all in all, and holy hell they make the best out of them!

I then ended up buying a Mexican Red knee tarantula sling, the good thing about buying a sling is the price lol, and you get used to them growing, so it's not as over whelming as buying an adult, and day before yesterday I was buying food for my snake, geckos, and lizards when I spotted a female regal, she's now part of my collection and she's totally awesome, I would love to try to breed them one day, because life feels a little empty when you don't have a jumping spider lol.

Food bowls are mostly for the ones that are less active (and therefore less visible) or ones that have a risk of burrowing into substrate and coming back to hurt your spider when you're not expecting it anyway, so that is perfectly fine.
