This is a little gem, in this video I give a stack of examples of what's possible with the Elgato Stream Deck when used with AutoCAD, as well as how to monitor PC sensors whilst you work.
See how much the Stream Deck costs on Amazon (I earn commission if bought through these links, at no cost to you but helps support the channel):
Amazon UK - amzn.to/3kJrgmA
Amazon US & Global - amzn.to/3FxVUrf

Greetings & Salutations everyone! This was a super interesting one to make, one of those ones that I had to reign right the way back in to avoid being super long but hopefully after the retake the point got across! The Elgato Stream Deck is 100% going to be a permanent fixture on my desk, if you're interested in checking out the current costs then my Amazon commission links are below: Amazon UK - amzn.to/3kJrgmA Amazon US & Global - amzn.to/3FxVUrf My Stream Deck was supplied with a separate white face plate which I did mention in take 1 then forgot to mention in take 2! I can't find where they're on sale but they are easily detachable, I'll link them here when I find them. If anyone has any questions or feedback on how this can be used, drop a comment down below, I'm open to idea for future videos on this.

I'm an engineering student for national University, and I was debating on getting a deck for productivity. This sold me on it esp because we utilize CAD for some of our assignments

No shot. Are you kidding me man. This is brilliant. I didn't know it could do this. I'm still trying to learn how to use the stream deck. Never in a million years I could use it with Autocad. Thats dope. Thank you so much for this.

I like how you are basically doing command line automation within macros on the streamdeck. That's pretty awesome! Great video!

I'm constantly cutting, pasting, rotating, trimming, extending, moving, lines, 3 point curves, clouding, checking distances, snap on, snap off, etc, etc. It would save so much time to use something like this. Would be nice to have a 10 key, esc, spacebar, enter and have a bunch of programable buttons.

Bought the Stream Deck Xl this time last year; but I never installed it, I've spent 3 hours this morning testing it and setting it up to my workflow (silly amount of programs) and its already showing its power through multiple applications. I'm genuinely excited as to how useful it is ;and I haven't even deep dived into some messy series of commands. As a point to mention I have no links with Elgato; I Just have broken links with my fingers and shoulders...In my opinion the XL is a must have.

I started using a Razer Tartarus in 2018 for AutoCAD commands and it really improved my workflow. I WISH it had this level of functionality. The only thing the Tartarus has over this is its ergonomics. I can use it for a full work week without any hand pain what so ever. Maybe I can 3D print something. 🤔 Thank you for this video. I may be getting one of these.

I got a basic 48key macro pad to do the same thing. While it works great, I use it for a bunch of things and could never remember 48 keys * 4 profiles. Just got a stream deck and the icons on it are so useful. I don’t have to memorize anything now and tons more real estate

I use the enterprise mouse and a Logitech g910 keyboard and a g502 lightspeed mouse. They have many keys ready for programming commands. It's major time savings. I will be adding this to the arsenal. Thanks for the vid!😎

Stream deck is powerful if you know how to build your own shortcuts / quick actions. I work in quality management, engineering plus some coding. I use Autohotkey, Powershell, Python, e.g. i constantly need to entry Data in a specific format like 01-JAN-2023. Now just 1 button, make sure the Data is the Current Date, definitely won't be wrong, no typo. 1 button that can run heaps of scripts/ codes/ cmd commands etc...

Hmm, after too many years clicking with my right hand, I decided to use the 3D connexion Spacemouse Pro- this in itself has been a great boom in productivity due the the programmable buttons being very near to the 3degrees of freedom simultaneous pan-zoom-rotate knob/ cap. I can work a bit faster than using keyboard shortcuts just alone due to the amount of physical travel distance between keyboard and Spacemouse ( travelling back and forth etc). However, I'm running out of keyboard shortcut options... my advice to anyone is to work efficiently as possible AND to give your body breaks between too many repetitive finger presses as RSI is a real issue. Personally, I make sure I have to move my hand OFF the mouse regularly to keep my RSI sensations as low as possible - but injured I am. Recently I've moved to a ergo gaming mouse and with enforcing a palm grip I'm having considerably better / faster clicking like my much younger days - so I'm hopeful again... Getting back to this device... I can see it working very well replacing screen command mouse clicks with my right hand although most probably, others ( uninjured ) would be using it with their left. Unlike a traditional ergo mouse and keyboard with user bias to righties, this command button box is ambidextrous. Thinking seriously about this... Thank you for the very informative review.

Ok, in what way pressing L+space with two diferent findgers in less than a second is slower than moving your hand to outside device with few buttons on it to press 1 button for line command and then returnign your hand to the keyboard?

Fyi, 3d connexions has released a keyboard just 2 months ago with a detachable NUM pad, and it has osd for the macros which can be locked to the task bar of your screen. I haven't used one as I prefer to use gaming laptops also it's rather pricey for what it is.

Guessing it will accept the same text command coding that the macros and toolbar buttons use, so space bar which is return, using that where return is required, can put all in one line of text code rather than the additional functions being called in. But for more graphically based (revit) which does not do command line script, the mutiple function would be applicable. Looks great, its the new version of the old tablet (with puck) with everything relevant if set into the folders and basically replicate the ribbon options onto the streamdeck :)

I'm testing Revit at the moment... not being a Revit expert I'm not sure what shortcuts and macros people would use but stuff like Wall and Door work as shortcuts, but Revit input is super annoying cos its all done in the panel on the left and you cant alt+tab into it so I think the deck would only be useful for command shortcuts

@@Neil3D Yes, its the primary reason I've stayed with AutoCAD, as I'm old school and a touch typist, so I just talk to the app with the keyboard and dont really use icons as I know the command names, what the prompts ask so i can just do it without looking. Even picking last object to send to the back with draw order command, you can select the object via keyboard by inserting word LAST when it asks select objects ... then just keyboard return and next command. Will have to get to grips with Revit at some stage, have three perp licences lol ... just ACAD is like driving a car for me, fluid and fluent ... but maybe not as efficient as one of the BIM apps.

Yep 100% I planned on doing a similar video like this for Revit but never got around to it, but it would basically be pretty much the same, binding shortcuts to the stream deck and it worked great

Thanks man, not sure I can get away being a gaming channel and not sure I want to, there's too much of that already and they're all fighting it out between themselves doing stuff that just doesn't matter and nobody needs i.e. showing tests of LED pixel response tests, HVAC controlled thermal tests, they're all just one-upping eachother but the audience has no reason to care about that level of product interrogation other than for disposable entertainment that the smaller channels can never compete with. So I've no interest in joining that, I'll stick with what I'm an expert and if I can't make it work I'll just stop stop.
