Daemon laughs at the funeral because comments are clearly being made toward Rhaenyra not so subtly jabbing at her and her children's claim. Daemon catches it and purposely pulls attention to himself-- I believe I remember the actors or directing discussing this in an interview to confirm. Or at the very least clarified that what Vaemon was saying was about Rhaenyra.

Viserys in the hands of Paddy Considine is such a likable character even though his fixation on people's perception of him makes him kind of spineless. I can't quite tell if he is being willfully ignorant to protect Rhaenyra's claim or if he actually believes that those are Laenor's kids. I am happy that they didn't fullfill the "burry your gays" trope and Laenor gets probably the only happy ending by going across the narrow sea with Qarl. In the books I think he does die. The jumps are jarring at first but I agree it was fun to have to puzzle together what happened during the jump. It was effective. I hate Ser Criston and Larys; it makes very hard to like Alicent when her most loyal dudes and psychopaths. Rhaenyra's whisper is spot on, Alicent is exactly the tool her father has made her. On the other side of it though Daemon is the most likable psychopath there is. Sad reality, if all of these people just did their dirt in the open, they had enough wealth and power to put down any dissenters. I guess that would be a boring story though.

Daemon may want the power but not exactly the throne-ultimately he support Viserys as king (he's a complicated man), but he is a petty younger brother who wants the recognition of his older brother and to prove himself but is constantly denied. Otto is the one who always spends more time mentioning Daemon wanting the throne-- meanwhile Daemon is the only person to straight out tell Viserys he's an idiot for listening to Otto because the man is a schemer. Obviously Otto would want to sew discord between the brothers to maintain and further his position.

I’m glad you see that Rhaenyra had it hard with her marriage to Laenor. People/reactors often miss that Rhae and Leanor DID try to have their own line but he simply was not able to preform. It’s not his fault. Rhae needed to have kids to have a succession and uphold her right as heir. Her kids are Targaryens at the end of the day. They had an agreement and they both stuck by it.

Vhagar is actually a very important dragon within Westeros. When Aegon I conquered Westeros, he and his two sister-wives each rode a dragon. Vhagar was ridden by Aegon's elder sister, Visenya. At this point in Westeros history, Vhagar is the second largest and oldest dragon to have lived. The only one to be bigger and older was Balerion, Aegon I's dragon. So, Aemond claiming Vhagar gives the Greens a dangerous ally. I do feel that people unfairly accuse him to "stealing" Vhagar. A dragon isn't an inheritance to be passed from parent to child. Any Targaryen can try to claim a dragon, but the dragon has to accept them. I do thing that it was wrong to try and claim it the night of Leana's funeral, though

@@doro626 And Daemon did like Laena-- unlike his first wife who he was forced to marry rather than have a choice-- he hade more of a choice with Laena. They may not have loved each other but at least they liked each other. I feel like people ignore this aspect of their relationship too much as well. Daemon didn't "love" her but was still willing to chose her life. Viserys loved Aemma and didn't chose her. Neither man is perfect, but this one difference really speaks volumes about them. I think the way Daemon goes about his less savory activities and his tendency to call people out openly tends to make it easier to miss these smaller characterization moments.

Important Detail: Targaryens are NOT fireproof. That is an invention of the GOT show that not only undermines how special Daenerys is and how miraculous her survival of Drogo’s pyre was, but it also is contradicted in the show (Jon in S1 burned his hand, Viserys was burned by molten gold) and in HOTD, Daemon has a burn scar from that flaming arrow he took to the neck in Episode 3.

nah the whole reason Allicent was in a situation where her kids would be in danger is BECAUSE otto made her marry Viserys, putting Allicent and her future kids in direct conflict with Rhaenyra. And Aemond instigated the whole thing by stealing Vhagar during Laena's funeral, which understandably angered her kids. Luke acted in defense of his family after Aemond's transgressions/ The Greens were all in the wrong here.

Daemon's plan on taking Rhaenyra to the brothel was to seduce her to piss off the king and force a marriage between himself and the princess, but once it started going down, Daemon grew a conscious about using his niece that way, so he hit eject and gtfo. Once he was confronted by the king about the brothel, Daemon's a*shole side came back and he doubled down on his original idea of pissing the king off and forcing a marriage even though he didn't actually consummate the seduction. Daemon has a VERY strong self destructive streak and his tactic with his brother, the king about a marriage proposal shows it. Instead of offering it up in conversation (without seduction), he chose to try to force his brother's hand. Part of it is self-pity and part is manic aggression based on him loving his brother, but not respecting him as a ruler. Knowing, in his mind, that he would be a much better leader and king.

Many things that changed and deleted from the book, and Daemon's human side is one of them, it’s so frustrating that everyone think he’s a asshole as father and husband when he is actually a good father in the books, he loves Laena and his daughters very much, but unfortunately they have deleted his scenes where he shows his soft side as for make him look bad. It seems both House of the Dragon and Rings of Power pulled the same lesson from Game of Thrones: You can't do all the backstory and side plots needed to fill out the entire story. That requires 12 seasons and everyone, showrunners, directors, actors are just burned out and done. So, you compromise. With HotD, that compromise is covering 20 years in 10 eps, only hitting the major plot points for the major characters, then slowing down to a more GoT pace for the actually Dance of the Dragons.

Eh, Aegon doesn't have to die of Rhae takes the Throne. Younger siblings of monarchs don't usually die. See Daemon. This is a classic situation where Otto, due to his actions, is causing the situation most likely to end in his grandson being I danger. Had he just been loyal, no issues. Plus, Rhae isn't straight up evil.
