That opponent messed up big time. Put all their hopes in a sneaky stalemate and traded all their good pieces for nothing. If they knew they were playing a 2300 rated player they'd never have tried that.

I really appreciate these videos! While there's great stuff in some of the other chess streamer rating climbs, I find the grandmasters doing it move up levels really fast and are showing some really advanced theory and skills. I find this rating climb much more accessible and applicable to someone at my lower level and an excellent look at the kind of tactics and opportunities I should be looking for against similarly low rated opponents.

Video idea I just came up with: chess against stockfish but you can en passant everything. Maybe it'll be too easy but I think it's gonna be fun

Also Nelson, there's no shame in flying through these low levels. Similar ideas will show up in the 1200 range but without all the tiring resignations and disconnects.

The 2 bishop checkmate is relatively easy just because of how well the bishops work together. B+N mate is tough tho because of how weird knight movement is

(@10:58) White just moved Nb3? Better was O-O-O, lining up the rook with black’s queen, and connecting the rooks on the 1st rank. With the knight on d2, it blocks the path of the queen, so castling is still legal; by moving it, white allows black’s queen-rook battery uncontested access to the d-file, and prevents castling queen side, and castling king side will land white in a world of hurt due to black’s queen-bishop battery eyeing h3!

It's nice that the Bishop checkmate involved no white pieces, so you didn't show us something that could result in a stalemate in an actual 2 bishop checkmate attempt.

The unwritten rule of chess, always take en passant when the opportunity arises, regardless if there is a mate in 1.

Location 20:02 I have heard you say En PassanT a lot of times Well, the "t" at the end of pasaant is silent. Almost 99.99% of the times, the last letter in every French word is silent (except for the French word fis and a few other words where the last letter is not silent). Every time you say passanT, I cringe mentally. Today I finally decided to let you know the correct pronunciation of this word. Thanks!

@quentind1924
@quentind1924 Жыл бұрын
Its better to play against humans. You will progress better than if you play against a bot that will see sneaky tactics, but they will randomly blunder a rook that is obviously attacked I don’t know your elo, but only low rated player quit at the middle of the game. At higher ranks, they resign only when they are clearly losing and it makes no point to continue the game (i’m rated 1200, and nobody resigns unless they are clearly losing)

I think these are instructive videos. I kind of feel sorry for your opponents though- they lost points like they were playing someone around their rating, but they had zero chance of winning. I'm not sure making videos like this is totally fair to your opponents in these situations.
