Just completed a 15 water fast. 32lbs loss, it was definitely something. Taught me I didn’t actually like food, I’m just addicted to sugar, oil and salt. New paradigm shift for sure. Also made me realize how much little food I actually needed before being full, which makes me very conscious of what I’m putting in my body. Could you make a video about noise affecting health? Ambient noise in cities are often seen as just minor inconveniences, however there is research it actually has a big impact on health, for example stress levels. Not only does it affect the body, it also affects our behaviour, in an environment with higher noise levels people are more likely to end conversations prematurely, be less patient, less generous, to name a few. The book "Curbing Traffic" has a chapter about the health impacts of noise pollution, but you are an expert on going through research and distilling them into awesome videos, big thank you for your work!

@notyourmom You're in the same camp as me then. The lethargy isn't exactly conductive to productivity, but not having an appetite most of the time does have its perks. The moment I do get an appetite is usually only after not having eaten for 12-16 hours. At which point I usually aren't lethargic, which makes it the sweet spot for working out. (Then again, at this point it might just be hunger, and my body mobilizing energy to go get food.)

You body needs sea salt while doing a 7 day fast or you will get sick. You can also drink green/black tea, some coffee, or use a teaspoon of lemon in your water each day. Your body also needs to be use to producing Ketones from fat. If your already in Ketosis before you start the 7 day fast your body and mind isn't craving for glucose. I have also found that it is best to start a 7 day fast on a Monday. Remember this 7 day fast first 10 to 12 lbs is just water weight. The main reason for a fast over 4 days is to recycle old cells. If you are doing this to lose weight you will need to remain in a Ketosis state. If not you will gain back all of the weight in 2 weeks. A Ketosis state or Keto diet is meant to allow your body to burn excess body fat. If you don't stop eating sugar, glucose, carbs, excess fats; this is just a stunt. Just remember you lost the taste for sugar and carbs during this fast. A Keto diet does the same thing. don't fall for buying Keto snacks, desserts. Just stick to eating vegetables.

That's awesome! Previously, I've attempted 48 hr fasts a few times previously, and would often notice lowered motivation, lack of blood circulation in hands and other extremities, and generally feeling weak. These days, I tend to consume less carbs in general (20-40 net gm) w/ working out 3 days /wk and regularly intermittent fast. I feel like this made the mental & psychological affects less severe than previous attempts on longer fasts. Currently on day 4/7 of water fast. I notice I actually need less sleep (5.5-6hrs) and that mid day cardio helps me to get to sleep at a reasonable hr. Today, I woke up feeling empowered and energized, with barely any issues w/ hunger. Sending well wishes on your fasting journey 🙌🏾🎉

@williamgreen6179
@williamgreen6179 7 ай бұрын
Before you do a 7 day fast you should be already use to doing one meal a day Keto diet. If you body is use to burning fat, a 7 seven day fast is not as hard to do. Only eat a max of 50 net carbs for the 2 weeks prior to your seven day fast. ( no sugar, carbs like bread, snacks, grains or other) Count net carbs per day. When you do your 7 day fast: drink items such as green/black tea, small amount of coffee per day, real apple vinegar cider - up to a 1/4 cup per day, couple tablespoons of lemon juice in your water, and make sure to eat a little bit of sea salt every couple of days. (No added sugar). I don't take my Vitamins during my 7 day fast. I walk or ride a exercise bike each day. You will lose up to 15 lbs depending whether or not your already in Ketosis or not. Your fat cells will shrink after a couple of days if there is sugar glucose still in your body. If you go back to eating sugar and carbs once your fast is done, you will gain back up 10 lb just in glucose in your cells. Your body holds an extra 10 to 15 lbs in excess water. If your in Ketosis before the fast and your maintain Ketosis after the fast you will not gain weight back. I do 2 to 3 day fast regularly to drop weight and I do a couple of 7 day fast each year. No need to do 7 day fast, It more healthy to just do 2 day fasting, 2 days of meals fasting schedule to drop weight or doing 4 to 5 day max days of fasting. Remember to break the fast by only eating bone broth or a light soup or pieces of fruit. If you eat a huge meal after fasting plan on running to the toilet.

The dips in energy and motivation is not only related to electrolytes but also to lack of usual (hyper)stimuli or dopamine release. Because for majority of the people, food is a big source of dopamine release, especially junk food, which is now cut off. Many can even try to not fast at all but eat say 3 meals a day without any modern foods and they'd also feel sluggish, anxious and unmotivated despite getting more than enough electrolytes and calories.

I fasted 50 straight days from mid Feb until April 9th, then refed for a month. All my blood markers were perfect after refeeding. I am currently burning off the last 25lbs to lose through rolling 6 day fasts (eat only on Sundays). I am already 2+ weeks into these rolling fasts. I supplement salts, magnesium, and a multivitamin, but it honestly hasn't been that hard. I was 258lbs in Feb and am currently 205 after yesterday refeed. I should hit 180 by end of August. Fasting is the best way for me to lose body fat rapidly, and is not the hardest thing you could do, and well worth the results.

Ever since I lost a ton of weight doing OMAD and sporadic 3 day fasts, my RHR is generally well under 60 BPM and my BMR seems much lower, which sucks because I'll gain weight on 2,000 calories unless I burn a lot through exercise. My body got WAY more calorie efficient thanks to 2 years of calorie restriction and IF. When I slack on exercise, I lose muscle mass, and consequently, fat comes racing back to replace it.

I'm 56 years old. I started a 16/8 fasting first week of February. I'd have my first meal at lunch, which is chicken and a bag of frozen vegetables either seasoned or sauteed, then something small for dinner. While I've lost a few pounds, what I've really noticed is the reduction in the inflammation in my joints. I also have more energy and a better mood. The body doesn't need all that food in three big meals a day to have to digest. I had planned on doing prior my doctor's visit, but she suggested it as well. I'm definitely going to stick with it!

@BaoLin i do 16/8 almost everyday because it is easier for me to eat in a small window. (Not right now though since i currently have covid) If you want to fast for weight loss then in my experience the longer the better. I like to pull 3 day fasts where i only take some salt and drink water in the peak of summer because the temperatures and constant water drinking strongly suppress hunger. You should only fast as long as you really feel well enough to do it. Edit. To be more precise my daily non-eating window is more like 20 hours and then 4 hours where i eat. I usually eat at or after 4pm and stop before 8 pm

I just finished fasted my first fast for 24 hours. My negative thoughts completely disappeared. I normally have trouble reaching out to my friends because I worry about them secretly disliking me. But that fear was gone, and I actually reached out to people for the first time in weeks. I felt extremely focused, and I was able to pay attention in lecture instead of falling asleep. I felt my depression leave. I was able to actually get important tasks done instead of procrastinating. Now that my fast is broken, I’m expecting all the negative thoughts and depression and procrastination come back. But this is definitely something I would do every week.

@@daphne201239 Yes it is the Prophet Muhammads way of fasting. There were many times in a year that was religiously obligated to fast, for example fasting awhole month called Ramadan. Basically that was fasting from sunrise to sunset and being able to eat and drink from sunset to sunrise. (doesnt mean you should). But apart from those obligatory days, the Prophet fasted the rest of the year when he willed. Again they were sunrise to sunset though.

I'm in a wheelchair most of the time and have osteoarthritis in my entire spine so I can't really exercise. Whenever I feel a energy dip during fasting I take some pink salt and let it dissolve under my tongue since I can't stand salty water. I can really recommend the book Fast.Feast.Repeat by Gin Stephens if you want to know more about it. @@antiquenotdead7 - you may also want to try a low carb/keto/carnivore diet to reduce inflammation, if you aren’t already. Once you get into ketosis, or fat burning, fasting is much easier, because you can use body fat for fuel, instead of just feeling as though you’re starving. Plus, particularly a carnivore diet can lead to recomposition of your whole body (less fat, more muscle) without exercise. In fact, a lot of doctors now say that exercise has very little to do with weight loss. Check out Dr. Ken Berry on KZbin. He and his wife Neisha are low carb and discuss a lot of topics. He may even cover brain injury. Work up to a multi-day fast slowly, if this is what you want to do.

What’s most important in fasting is giving the body time to heal instead of non stop securing and building fat energy reserves for an upcoming non existent famine. When we stop eating. You're definitely right about fasting getting easier the more you do it. The first time I did a fast, I was exhausted and literally couldn't do anything but sleep and sit around for probably a solid week. Plus I was cold and had to constantly wear a sweater, socks, and long pants. I have been lucky to not have symptoms like headaches and body aches. But I've done it a few more times since then and have even done a 19 day fast with minimal problems. It does take me a bit longer than 3 days for my hunger to go away though. Everyone is different, but fasts definitely get easier the more you do it. Fasts are a great way to lose weight fast, save money on food, and reset your body. Fasting also helps to avoid a lot of excess skin if you plan on losing a bunch of weight.

I think most people should cycle 3 day fasts 3+ times before you try a 7d. I believe it helps your body figure out the electrolyte issue. I don't use electrolytes unless I'm sweating a lot. I’ve experimented with several water fasts ranging up to 18 days. Typically lose 1 kg per day but the first 3 days is typically only water weight. I use electrolytes daily to offset the headaches and tiredness which you experience when the body is transitioning from glucose to ketones as it’s principal source of energy. An aspect of fasting that I particularly enjoy is the deep sleeps I have. I wake up feeling incredibly refreshed. My resting heart rates slows down to as low as 45 bpm from a typical 53 bpm and I need to be careful when getting up due to lower blood pressure. Have had a couple of fainting episodes when getting up too quickly.

I also do 2 on 2 off for weeks on end or , 3, 4,, 5 or 7 day fasting when my body stops losing weight while I'm on a Keto Diet. I also switch around my daily eating cycle to throw my body a curve. After around 40 to 50 lbs of weight lose requires your body to reset or go back on a maintaining weight diet for a couple of weeks. I use fasting to aid me once I reach a plateau. I've done 4 seven day fast; I think I will stick to doing 4 to 5 day fast to replace the seven day ones. I have never gotten sick while doing a fast. Remember to only drink or eat a small amount of bone broth, light soup or fruit for the first day or plan on running to the toilet. I only normally eat 1 meal a day. I took me a while to get use to drinking tea and coffee without real sugar. When I'm on a strict Keto diet, I don't use substitute sugars.

The feeling of hunger is super interesting on a fast. The only way I've been able to explain it is when I fast for like 4-5 days, I stop being hungry in my body, and start being hungry in my head. I start planning my meals for when I get off my fast, something I was loathe to do in the past. I also get the urge to try some cooking, myself. But funnily enough, with a full month of doing this coming to a close, I find that I'm thinking of food less than I was for the second and third weeks. Noticeably, at least. Careful fasting like that, i've read some studies that have changed my mind on it, its short term benefits come more from the flush your body does and the fats converted to keytones for the cells. The longer it goes the more risk and damage arises, its less hormetic and more hacking away at any recent muscle gains. And it can effect recovery and sleep quality too. Intermittent fasting is how we were once naturally, but day by day fasting triggers a famine survival mechanism, those who fast for days are basically letting their body eat itself, its not just fat you lose, it has a greater cost to the body too. The clarity of mind comes from the keytones and its another survival mechanism that allows one to process and escape the dangerous environment of famine and death around them. So intermittent fasting on keto diet is much more healthy in the long term. You will have better outcomes keeping weight off by keeping portion data and loss/gain data with activity. Its very easy to increase the physical output if unwanted weight gain starts and theres no mood and energy swings. Even with Liquid IV and 5HTP and tryptophan it can be depressing when your ignoring real hunger and not just the Candida bacteria cravings.

As someone who has Achalasia for 25 years which unfortunately causes involuntary fasting the one thing that I’ve seen is how powerful the mind is when it comes to eating. Thinking about food is something that most people do on a regular basis and it makes you hungry. I’ve had to learn to not think about food or eating. Once my body and mind adapts to running on empty it’s much easier. Definitely relate to the mood swings and lack of patience.

My husband has achalasia so often he’ll find food sticks and he’s almost choking when he starts eating; usually standing up and walking around eventually means the food move down. He has now started “prepping” for meals by having just a couple of spoons of something smooth like yoghurt or apple sauce. Then after about ten-fifteen minutes he tries to eat his main meal slowly and that has definitely improved the number of meals with which he has issues. He has had it for over 40 years. It’s sure a challenge to live with.

I been fasting on and off for 4 years now. I am 47. They definitely new to it and did not prepare right but I don't blame them. U learn many things over the years. After lots of trial and errors, I learned that you should eat lots if dark green veggies because they have fiber and lots of pottasuim. This will prepare you when you fast. After 4 years, I can fast 5 days without any struggle or dips in the mood or being light headed. I even work out on my day 3, 4, and 5 with weights and jogging. That will sound crazy, but my ketone strip was dark red. I was running on fats. No worries.. The reason I lifted weights was because I wanted to see if your muscle grow. In theory your testosterone and growth hormoen will sky rocket.. my other tools is of course water, salt, black coffe, sometimes water with lemon and salt. Being busy is huge in being able to not think of food. It's not just your stomach you have to deal but also the habits and mind you have built in your life. So to think that I am not deprived I actually go to Starbucks and just order a carbonated can water or black coffe. This way I feel that I'm not doing anything drastic. So some self trickery might help. The benefit. Some have said I look young, no muscle or joint pain, u can see easy better, your face will slim and not round, of course fat loss,, more time for your self, etc. Who would have thought the fountain of youth is something u don't have to travel anywhere. It's in u already. All you do is learn to fast gradually.

At one point, I was 287lbs with a 42" waist at 6'1". At first, fasting was hard. But then combining that with a strict gym routine, has taken me to levels I never thought I could do. First was a 3 day fast, then 1 week fasts and then finally, doing fasts for a month at a time. By day 4 my hunger is gone entirely. Got all the way down to 180lbs. Now I'm 200 with visible abs. 31 waist with 17" biceps and a 56" chest. Save a ton on food as well. Coffee in the morning, then Gatorade and energy drinks. Water, of course, mio, calorie free tea, etc. But one of my best tricks was calorie free jello with calorie free canned whipped cream. It definitely helps with sugar cravings and also portions. Moving around helps a lot. I do a lot of walking every day and that really helps as he describes in the video. I think that also helps get the body feast on ketones faster if you are looking for a tip. Walking isn't overextensive either. Can burn a lot of cals that way. 8-1-22 - I am currently on day 13 of my fast. I've done many types of fasting in the past, just as you have mentioned. My longest fast was for 28 days and that was approximately 10 years ago. This time I'm not sure how long I'm going to go but it will be longer than 28 days. I feel great, lost all sense of hunger on approximately day 6. I've also been doing a lot of research on fasting just to keep me motivated. I have fluctuated in weight from approximately 1990 to the present; I was fluctuating from 180 to my top of 350 pounds. At that highest weight, it was very uncomfortable and I was having other physical symptoms, finally, I was able to motivate myself to start losing weight. In one year I lost 150 pounds by doing my own type of intermittent fasting. Some days I would fast for three to four days some days every other day, it was a complete mix, but it worked for me. I was able to keep the weight off for six to seven years. After my mother passed and other family-type issues I started to regain weight again. I hit 325 pounds two years ago and didn't even realize I was that heavy when I saw that number on the scale. I slowly started working on losing weight but wasn't as successful as I wanted to be. I just wanted to make sure I was under 300 pounds. So I stayed in the 290-pound range for two years and now have finally reached the point to remotivate myself and find my WHY. I'm doing this fast to of course lose weight but also to cleanse and purify my body and my cells as much as possible. There was a point when I was towards the end of my 28-day fast years ago where I thought I could never have to eat again, I felt like I could live off the energy of the sun, it was a strange sensation, but also a very pleasant sensation. You have to be very dedicated and motivated to do these types of fasts, but if you're 'ready' you can see wonderful things happening to your body, to your thought processes, and you have a new sense of being... I love it! PS I'm writing this to hopefully motivate someone else!!!

Thanks for sharing this video! I've practiced intermittent fasting (16-22 hours per day) for most of the last 5 years. I've found it helps with my mental clarity, energy levels, and digestion. I have yet to fast much longer than 48 hours, so I really appreciate the info and experience you share here! I appreciate all the data you collected and shared on your blood sugar levels, mood, and other journal entries. I've also noticed a huge difference from adding salt into the mix while I'm fasting. My energy level, mental clarity, and ability to resist hunger are all a lot better with salt. I'm surprised you didn't emphasize the importance of the salt being unfiltered, especially since I saw you using the Real Salt brand at one point in the video. I usually go with himalayan pink or celtic grey salt. These options (and Real Salt) include trace minerals, whereas common table salt doesn't. Many people probably don't know there's a difference. I used to laugh in my mind at people who cared and were vocal about using other forms of salt- 'It's all just salt bro...' Standard table salt is also going to taste nasty in comparison to unfiltered options, so will be harder to consume.

I've taken his advise about salt and electrolytes. But instead of once a day I used flavorless liquid electrolytes. I drank some water with the added electrolytes and some salt after everytime I went to the bathroom. Also, one thing people may not take into account is caffeine withdrawals. If you normally drink tea or coffee and go on a water fast then the headache may be as a result of no caffeine as opposed to lacking salt, magnesium, or potassium. Important to keep balance though as caffeine is also a diuretic. This is why I took electrolytes more than once a day.

After experimenting with all kinds of diets and exercises I’ve come to the conclusion that mindset is key. If you aren’t disciplined and strong willed to say “I will only have a bite of this” or “I will do this and there’s nothing that is going to stop me from doing it” and actually being able to execute your plan nothing you ever try for your personal well-being will be able to benefit you. I was depressed and sluggish and the more I thought about how depressed and tired I was the more depressed and sluggish I became. Then I learned about the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis and how you are your habits. I wanted to do things but I always listened to the back of my head bringing me down because it was easier to not do anything than to get started, so that creates conflict and contradiction which is extremely draining to our body because you are causing it to fatigue by just giving it the chore to make a choice, it spends it just going back and forth between options. Little by little I’ve been getting my life back, I don’t give myself choices anymore, I give myself a task and that’s it, the only goal is to complete the task. The energy I’ve been able to cultivate is amazing because it gave me the power to go after what I am truly passionate about which is creating the person that I want to be and giving it the things I want to have. I work full time, I go to school, I clean, I cook, I do laundry, and I exercise. However do give yourself a day to relax, be bored and not do anything because cultivating having nothing to do also builds the energy to want to do things later on. There’s power in making a decision and sticking with it til the end regardless of the outcome.

after half a dozen fasts, i noticed mood and energy fluctuations happened during the first week and a half. the next couple weeks was notable for increased energy and an incredible sense of focus and purpose. the idea of eating, cooking or worrying about food are long gone. and depending on eating out and food purchases, there is an actual saving. the body’s gone through all the adjustments by then.

@@Volodimar I’ve gone over a month of forced food rest by Drs a couple times now and his account all lines up but the energy part. @@Volodimar I was doing 10 day fasts at least 1-2 a year, haven't done them in a while though. Several weeks seems a bit excessive, but it's definitely doable. After a while you don't really crave food, it's like your body switches over to some kind of emergency mode. I don't know if the dude is lying, but longer fasts are definitely a thing.

Was doing IF and keto for a year as well as walking and hiking several times every week and lost nearly 27kg of my weight and dropped by 2 sizes in clothes. Then things changed cause I was going through a hard time in my life and started messing up with my nutrition and gaining about 7 kg. That's why I thought of changing and starting another method. Have just finished my first 36 hours fasting successfully. When I woke up today I was surprised because I was not hungry and even thought of extending my fasting, but then found it better to take things slowly. I didn't feel tired or hungry till the evening, so I took a cup of black coffee and felt much better. I will be doing alternative fasting, which means fasting for 36 hours and eating for one day and then fasting again. I am surprised that after my breakfast I feel so full and far better.

Damn. What an amazing video. I've been on the fence about trying a prolonged fast. I've been doing one meal a day for about 2 months now. This is after doing a 22- 2 fast window for another 2 months. But, this video definitely gave me a push. I'm going to start a 3 day fast tomorrow. See how it goes than plan a 7 day in about a month. Thanks for the awesome video and Information... and thanks for including clips from all of my favorite movies also.

Though anecdotal I've had very similar experiences. I feel like we've had parallel journeys navigating through the wonderment of the body and it's conversation with the food around us. I've done three 10-day fast in the past few years and almost the same way you did, with the first one being armed with a little less knowledge to the most recent with staying on top of my electrolytes and cutting way down on the coffee. I truly appreciate you sharing your experiences, it offers me a little validation. when I'm around friends and family everyone thinks I'm a crazy Fringe nut that believes everything on the internet. Awesome work and fantastic videos 👍

I have started a 3 day fast today, but the first day is easy as I only eat once a day anyway, at around 6pm, so I normally fast for 24 hours. Day one done, setting into day two. I guess it's harder when your used to eating 3 or more times a day.

Proud Abraham for sticking with it. Very informative video and the differences in fat adaptation between the 2 of you. I tended to drink too much dark coffee in mine. Now I drink green tea instead bc it doesn't hurt my stomach. Thank you for this video.

I've been intermittent fasting for just over a month now doing OMAD with exercise. I did do two 48h fasts in that time as well. I was 16st and this morning i was 14st 2. for me OMAD seems the sweat spot and has made feel a lot happier. Best thing I've done in long time 👍

I have found that if I felt hungry at day 3 to day 5 meant that I had parasites. So I bought internal cleansing tea. Day 6 I was pooing the parasites out and I felt so much better and that knawing feeling stopped. So my opinion is to get a cleansing tea to drink so that you can clean out completely and minimise the painful stomach/intestinal cramps. Happy fasting. Peace

16:8 intermittent fasting 3-5 days/week, paired with meal planning and trying to take into account micronutrients. Spending the first month tweaking protein:fat:carbs ratio, to what my body seemed to respond to the best. I found it highly effective, and honestly fairly easy, and the long term effects being it became a type of lifestyle so after roughly 3months I had no more need for apps or weighing food. I instinctually eat around a 16:8 layout, without rly thinking about it much, between 2-4 times a week now. Some 5 years after the deliberate change to IF.

I've been doing 40:8 fasting for a week now and have lost 4-5kg. I drink slightly salted water all day and after 24 hrs I have a bulletproof coffee (black coffee with a tablespoon of grass-fed butter and extra virgin coconut oil. I walk, v light exercise and a swim every day - NO cardio. Its working really well and I'm finding it quite easy.
