What do you really know about ADHD?
Attention-Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder, most commonly known as ADHD, is a disorder that is not discussed by many. This has led to a severe lack of awareness within society, and many struggling with ADHD often feel isolated.
We spoke to a few familiar faces who are diagnosed with ADHD about their journey so far and what they hope for in the future.

When I was in Year 8, there was my friend who did not like to do much school work, who was not active much compared to the others and who was a bit behind on his studies. I remember the science teacher told him "හැමෝම doctors/engineers වෙලා බෑනේ, පොල් කඩන්නත් මිනිස්සු ඉන්න ඔනෙ". I went to one of the most famous schools in Colombo, and if that's the example that some teachers set in-front other students at an age of 14 and if that's the way some teachers treat students who look a bit different to others, where is Sri Lanka heading? How about the mental health of that child? I am not saying he had ADHD, he may have/not but there should be a way of handling things at school no? However that child is a chef now and doing well,. As far as I know that teacher is still teaching but in a different school. He may enjoy a dish some day cooked by that child who he thought good for "පොල් කඩන්න"! Major changes need to happen in Sri Lankan in MANY areas!! Mental health is totally neglected

In third world countries like ours only affordable therapy we can get is alcohol. Who is there to talk to? When everyones life is shit nobody takes the extra step to understand another human being....if you're lucky you'll find a way just like your friend, but if you're damned you're done for! only option is life long substance abuse and a miserable life.

I’m finally happy that there’s awareness being raised about ADHD in adults in Sri Lanka. When I would loose concentration in class teachers just wanted to know whether I had boys in my mind or whether my parents were together. I struggled comparing myself to others until I got diagnosed. You’re not alone. It helps to get help. ❤️

@@rumaizmohomed4185 this is a very late reply, but if you still haven't found any good psychiatrists, I suggest Dr Ganeshan. He's very good. Believes his patients and has faith in them and doesn't doubt their claims regarding self reports. He believed me in our first session when I told him "I think I have adhd" and immediately gave me a starting dose of Ritalin and increased it further when it was clear that it helped me

the girl with glasses said something which have for social anxiety patients as well. No one can say its ADHD. I also zone out and also feel like i cant walk in public

It is also important to note that ADHD symptoms differ from women to men. And hyper-focus among lack thereof are also symptoms. It's good to remember that ADHD people have a lot of strengths as well and they should not be defined by it. And yes, parents definitely need to be taught on mental health and sexual education. The mentality of this country can be saved in generations to come if these wrinkles were straightened.

Thats the thing, even with ADHD, u can still do things, it just takes more effort to that your peers and u dont even reach there level. i did this, very burnt out, slowly realisibg, wait, i thibk i have ADHD. But hey, i am stronger than other ppl and that actually makes me feel powerful ngl

Hi! I think I have same problem. For some days I am searching for how I get diagnosed this. I have tried to consult 2 different psychiatrics. But they identified depression or anxiety. Not identified as ADHD. But medication didn't help me. So Can anyone suggest a psychiatrics in Colombo to get diagnosed for ADHD. Please help me. I having bad time. If I didn't get cure for this I will get fired from my work soon.

please can u have an update if you see this?? i yesterday went to get my diagnosis and the doctor diagnosed as depression and anxiety but I'm 100% sure that's not the problem She said there's no enough evidence of course I've been suppressing them I'm having the same problems as you 😭 please help me

@@beanieyoobi I suggest going to Dr Ganeshan, he's very good. Trusts his patients to tell the truth, and doesnt treat them like fools, unlike most psychiatrists. He prescribed me a starter dose of ritalin in our first session without doubting my self evaluation, and increased my dose to the normal therapeutic range when I told him it was helping me

anxiety is only inner restlessness, ADHD is inability to regulate your attention, ADHD causes anxiety though
