@39:53 On his way out, the owner of the shop told the other customer, "The foreigners want to take a photo. I'll let them get the most of it!" This is very Taiwanese: kindness without reservation, especially in the southern and rural area. I hope you enjoy your visit in Taiwan.

As a fellow Taiwanese, I’ve only met one person who would order full sugar at tea shops. I do have sugar + no ice myself. Note that no ice doesn’t mean room temp. It actually means “chilled but no ice cubes”

At 10:09, that movie theater, is where the twice Oscar winning movie director Ang Lee, got his love for movie from, and where he often skip school and went for movie as a teenager in Tainan City. Tainan city is also the birth place of Nvidia's founder, Jensen Huang, and AMD's CEO Lisa Su, and K-Pop idol group TWICE's Tzuyu. Boba tea & bubble tea (originally with small white pearl balls) were invented in Tainan as well, that's why it first got the name "Pearl Milk Tea".

You must eat the sausage with raw garlic. It brings out the flavor more. Try the next one with garlic and maybe you’ll change your mind. The reason the skin of the chicken is chewy bc they are free range chicken so they actually walk around. The meat will also be chewier. The vegetables in Taiwan are very good too bc they are very tender and fresh.

Those are indeed money. Not "Fake" but supposedly money they use in the after life. Taiwanese burn them so the ancestors can receive them in the after life. And the very last scene, the owner was trying to show you how the selling of those "Tofu" (which are actually called Tohua) were done in the olden days. Vendor would carry those around and inside are the syrup and Tohua.

You ordered the tofu pudding from a photo online with only the egg pudding as topping. You could actually order it with several toppings on top. For example: Red beans, peanut, taro or sweet potato balls. BTW, the tofu pudding owner is showing you how they used to sell the tofu sweet in the old days, which is carrying the tofu with a stick on their back and when customers hear the bell 🔔 sound they would come out to buy some tofu sweet. 😄

We don't have the best-looking cities just due to our early development, but the friendliness of Taiwanese people cannot be understated and it's often times overlooked when talking about the country. Also I believe English fluency on average is better than most East Asian countries, which is an important factor of enjoyment for visitors.

在台灣有句祝福的話:升官(棺)發財,取至讀音稱棺材板,並不會忌諱用棺材來命名!但是路上遇到了真的棺木,口中會默念阿彌陀佛!!!🙂🙂🙂 There is a blessing saying in Taiwan: if you get promoted (coffin) and get rich, the pronunciation is called a coffin board. There is no taboo in naming it after a coffin! But when you encounter a real coffin on the road, you will silently recite Amitabha!!!

@@JayandKarolina because you have a different accent i
You might have like the rice dumpling more if it had meat. When they show you the amount of ice and sugar to get, you usually stick with it. Like you said, it was 0% then 25% so you should’ve asked for 25% instead of your own percentage of 10%. The vendor has already calculated the diff sweetness that they feel is best the drinks. Like other vendor might have 0 or 30% sugar instead of 0 or 25% (the place you went). Some drinks can’t adjust sugar or ice bc they’ve tested and come to the best combination. Also you need to shake the brown sugar bubble tea more so the brown sugar syrup will mix into the drink. If you don’t shake it well enough, your bubbles might taste too sweet. The burning of the yellow paper is money for the underworld. Seafood in Taiwan is really fresh so it may taste very diff from the seafood you’ve had. You should try seafood. Coffin bread reminds me of chicken pot pie. The noodle place vendor just told you guys to wait in Japanese, lol. For the dry noodle, you needed to mix everything first. That’s why you said it was salty bc you didn’t mix it. Also the shrimp isn’t fishy bc most seafood in Taiwan is really fresh. It’s an island so seafood is readily available.

Zong Zi is not a dumpling. I consider dumplings as bite size. Zong Zi is popular during the dragon boat race festival period. The yellow papers are "money" that people burn to send to their ancestors in the after life.

You guys should have just stayed in Taipei (north of Taiwan) for food. Just tastes so much better than the south Taiwan. The rice dumplings are also way different than the ones you guys tried. No peanuts on top and the rice is not sticky.
