What is Beer in Beautiful Places?
Hi, I’m Maddie! Celebrating an outdoor adventure with a beer has been a long-time tradition for me, and I wanted to create a platform for like-minded folks to come together. In my videos, I cover all types of adventures and review beer! Topics include day hiking, kayaking, travel, thru-hiking, and life on the road. In short, if you would describe yourself as an outdoorist, outdoorsman, outdoorswoman, hiker trash, nomad, or dirtbag, come on along, this is the channel for you! Welcome and cheers!

That was a touching and poignant moment when you walked past the phone on the trail. I met your grandfather several times over the last few years. He was a very nice gentleman. He passed only a short time before my mother did in April. He was only a year or so older than her. They both lived full and wonderful lives with families that loved and miss them very much. I am sorry for your loss.

Loss is the hardest thing I've ever had to deal with. My best friend died in 2019. Friends since high school. We did everything together. It's been years and I still can't believe he's gone. My heart goes out to everyone who's lost someone they love.

Your pre-NYC recap was so illuminating. I especially appreciate your candor about all your emotions, from grief and sadness to exhilaration to deep honoring of yourself and your friends to the practicalities of the day… to realistic and forward looking goals. I also enjoy seeing these parts of the AT close to my home. I might be old and clearly not in the best shape, but I plan to begin doing 1/2 section and then section hikes in the Fall. My 91 year old Mom died yesterday and she and my Dad were big time geocachers and site stewards in Northern Arizona. It’s almost like the trail and it’s healing properties are calling me.

Also.....its different at stages in our lives.....and that is amazing to watch thru the hikes. I love that part the most. How each hike is unique and their own. I'm so jealous

That leaf that you spun around that almost looked like a spiderweb. So cool. Your really in touch with nature and it shows in your videos. So love it. Also the videoing on the train. Ok ok how about all that you video. The ups and downs. The telephone got me especially when you talked about your Grandpa. So very sweet and glad you had time to think of him because of that. No one else to interrupt your feelings and train of thought. So very sweet!❤

Hey, Ranger, that spring is a metaphor for life: one life generates many, many lives to come. Just as the grandfather you miss so much sprung forth your parent, who sprung forth you, and then you'll spring forth your own lakes going forward. And some day your granddaughter will speak lovingly of the grandmother she once had the pleasure of knowing.

Quite the contrast to my time in New York last year. You seem to be having more fun. You should try burning lavender incense sticks to keep the bugs away at camp. They are $1 at Walmart in the candle isle. Check for a bugnet in the camping section also.

Haha I can relate to New York feeling weird after so much nature. My family and I took a roadtrip through some national parks and then flew to New York. Absolutely hated it because of the stark contrast. I would like to go again to see if I feel differently. Also your observation about loss is so true. My grandpa died a few years again and I try not to think about him, because almost whenever I do, I cry. Really miss than man. Whising you all the best!

I'm not sure how I found your channel but it was recently and I'm so glad I did! Since I haven't been watching your Appalachian Trail adventures from the beginning, I will eventually get back to the beginning and watch from there. This episode in particular was very touching and hit me at a particularly vulnerable time. My friend's son passed away unexpectedly at the age of 33 and a telephone connected to nothing, on the trail, in the woods, by a stream was magical and poignant. I'm sorry for the loss of your grandpa but you know he's watching over you and loving being along with you on this adventure of a lifetime.
