I did engage with your office via email. I _Was_ prepared to pay the $350, but then I searched some more and found two other very reputable firms with an office in Da Nang (Important to me) - Neither was asking for a initial consultation fee.

@shotelco, thanks for sharing your experience and thoughts. You are absolutely right about “Price Discovery,” and we respect the fact that you found an option that worked for your specific needs. However, let’s get something clear-when you are paying $350 for an initial consultation with our firm, you are not just paying for a conversation. You are investing in over 15 years of hard-earned expertise and actionable, tailored advice that can save you far more in the long run. The firms you mentioned might offer a “free” consultation, but often, that’s just an extended sales pitch. We don’t operate that way. Our consultation is a commitment to giving you our full attention and delivering solutions, not just suggestions. We believe in starting a relationship on the right foot-with real value from the get-go. As for target audience, whether you are a Global 2000 company, a venture-funded startup, or a smaller operation with ambition, the common thread among our clients is an appreciation for quality and results. We work with those who understand that cutting corners now can cost a lot more later. We salute your due diligence, but remember-sometimes, the cheapest option upfront isn’t the best investment in the long run. When you are ready for that next level of expertise, we will be here, ready to deliver the value you deserve.

First he is NOT a legit Viet attorney. How doesn't know the language well enough to learn the laws. He needs to go through Viet attorneys (more middle men). Second, attorneys don't get you out of binds in VN. Knowing officials do. Prices for services in each country should be proportionate to living costs and median wages. Living costs in Vietnam are 1/4th that in the USA. Media wages in Vietnam are 1/20th that in the USA. Yet, he wants to charge the SAME rates as lawyers in the USA???? LOL. Rip off. He should be charging $25/hour which would put him in the top 99% of wage earners in Vietnam.

I went to FV Hospital the other day in HCMC. FV Hospital is a private international hospital and is considered the best in HCMC. I saw a cardiologist who charged about $15 for a 30-minute consult. The hospital fee for the consult was about $13. The follow-up consult for another 30 minutes was about the same price. That means I got 1 hour of valuable consultation from a medical specialist at the best hospital in Saigon for less than $60. I think this puts Ken's $350/hr consulting fee into perspective.

I think it is possible for a consultation with a cardiologist at the best hospital in HCM city is just for the amount mentioned above. However, I think it is very likely that the hospital will get the money back through array of treatments if the patient decides to go ahead with. And all of these proposed treatments may not be necessary. I am not saying they are bad, but over-treatment is very common in Vietnam.

Here's what caught me off guard. the virtual office fees were $100/month and apparently are required. I have virtual offices in the US for other businesses and typically they're 20$ per month. I'm game for the legal fees but keeping monthly overhead overseas low is of high importance.

My only problem is I paid and sent an email to your office on saturday and only got a response back on "Tuesday" telling me you need to prepare and research for 1-2 days. I needed advice asap and have advised your office of its urgency. I understand it was the weekend but the email should have been looked at on the Monday? and if you needed 1-2 days for research is fine to get back to me which if efficently processed should be Wednesday. Time was of the essence.... I don't think my questions were complex or complicated. I just needed to know the process and legalities in vietnam for that situation which i think happens all the time. The response time is too slow. even if i paid. I thought paying would speed up the process bit.

Well, Ive been working in the similar field, especially for legal and tax for one of the biggest companies in the world (Big 4). I totally agree w/ what Ken is saying. If you are a partner or so. You would expect to charge around 300-500 €/h. Nonetheless, it is of course the high-end service what we’re talking about. For individuals - let’s say low/ middle class in Germany lawyers would charge you around 20€-150€ for the first consultation or smaller cases. Afterwards, in case there are more consultations needed one would normally pay a price for a package or according to the law how much the value the project is worth multiple with a law-given factor. Please note that doesnt mean one could expect the same price or handling in another continent/ country 😅. Since nowadays we have a lot of AI helping to write, translate, do research or even calculate stuff for us, of course its sometimes easy earned money.

Instead, we had a talk in one of his coffee shops, a dark room with no table. Trying to write my notes in a notebook resting on my knees. He had one trainee sitting next to him who had to answer some of my questions. And a young woman taking notes. I was promised she would follow up on some of my questions after the meeting. She never did. And Ken never read the email she sent me: full of spelling mistakes. Try to google Ken"s business, and the reviews to his business.

It all comes down to the demand of your firm and time. If you have a lot of clients and don't need more then raising fees to $350 will reduce a lot of the terrible clients you will get. However, if you need more clients then reduce your initial consultation fee. People will complain but the consult fee is usually based on demand and experience. If people are saying Ken's consult is high then he must have a lot of demand for his service and/or experience.

@duongglobalbusinessconsulting
@duongglobalbusinessconsulting 5 ай бұрын
First of all, the idea that all Vietnamese earn $350 a month is not just wrong, it’s laughable. Not every Vietnamese person is living on one bowl of Pho a day. Just because the average salary might be $350 doesn’t mean we rre adjusting our pricing to match that. We provide services to both local Vietnamese investors and expats, and guess what? Our Vietnamese clients are investing and opening businesses in places like the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Dubai. Do you really think these clients are earning $350 a month? Let’s get real here-our services aren’t for everyone, and we don’t need to cater to the entire population. We serve a specific market of serious investors and business owners who understand the value of expertise. If you’re earning $350 a month, you’re probably not planning to invest $800,000 in the U.S. or looking into tax incentives for opening a factory in an economic zone. That’s just common sense. We’re not selling a product off the shelf; we’re offering unique services built on years of knowledge and experience. The legal market isn’t about adjusting to the lowest common denominator; it’s about providing high-quality services that deliver real results. So, before you criticize the pricing, maybe consider learning about the market as it is better than talking abou something you have no clue. If you don’t need that level of service, that’s fine-but don’t confuse your situation with the reality of our business and our clients’ needs.

You clearly don’t understand how this works. Throwing around “average salary” like it’s some kind of benchmark for legal fees? That’s beyond laughable. We don’t cater to average salary people looking for the cheapest deal in town-we work with investors and business owners who actually know what quality legal expertise is worth. You are complaining that we charge U.S. rates in Vietnam? You have no idea what you are talking about and clearly didn't understand the video. You think we should be adjusting our fees to match average local incomes? What for? We are not working with average salary people. That’s like expecting a luxury car dealership to price their vehicles like used bicycles just because average salary people cannot afford those cars. Completely absurd. As for your ignorant claim about reading Vietnamese law, we’ve got a team of top-notch Vietnamese attorneys who handle that without breaking a sweat. So, before you keep mouthing off about things you clearly have zero understanding of, maybe consider that we operate on a level you couldn’t even begin to comprehend. We charge what we charge because at the market price. If that’s too much for you, go look for a bargain elsewhere. $350 is the average monthly salary in Vietnam
@duongglobalbusinessconsulting
@duongglobalbusinessconsulting 5 ай бұрын
@xdgs567z, The notion that all Vietnamese earn $350 a month is not just inaccurate, it’s absurd. Not everyone in Vietnam is scraping by on a meager income. Just because the average salary might hover around $350 doesn’t mean we are pricing our services based on that figure. We work with local Vietnamese investors and expats alike, many of whom are opening businesses and making significant investments in places like the U.S., Europe, Singapore, and Dubai. Do you really think those clients are earning just $350 a month? Let’s be real-our services aren’t designed for everyone, and that’s by choice. We cater to a specific group of serious investors and business owners who appreciate and understand the value of expert legal counsel. If you’re making $350 a month, you’re probably not in the market to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars abroad or explore tax incentives for setting up a factory in an economic zone. That’s just common sense.

@ESGisascam
@ESGisascam 5 ай бұрын
He must have special license as Vietnam must recognize his California license. Otherwise he would not be in compliance with Vietnam law, which maybe is a very bad offense leading to permanent expulsion (the Vietnam lawyers dont want Americans invading their turf), or California law because he is engaging in the unauthorized practice of law in another state/country. If he does not have special permission because it is not necessary in Vietnam than yes it sounds like anybody can be a Vietnam lawyer which will drive the cost down to $2/hr!

I think the root problem here isn't about the pricing but rather how its advertised. Sure there is never a free lunch but the website and some past videos have advertised it as "free consultation." Being more direct about the procedure and pricing on the website is a more honest approach and creates a better sense of reputation. It also avoids the unnecessary disappointment and communication that some people might feel after submitting a request.

Some ideas: - You can remove the word free and simply list your price and an outline explaining why its worth it (summarized version of what you said in this video). Including an explanation that the fee will be discounted/reimbursed from whatever service is purchased in future. - Rough estimates of your full service pricing and/or use cases are great examples also even though everyone's case might be different.

It is the problem of all business owners, how to get people to pay before you have proven your knowledge has any value to them. In one hour, I doubt you can impart much of your experience and then I'm just paying for a sales pitch. Hmmmm doesn't sound like a good investment. I was actually in Vietnam in April 2024 and wanted to meet you, and contacted via LinkedIn, no response, then Facebook, took 3 days for anyone to respond, then you schedule and cancelled a meeting with me because you had "something more important" and I should pay for this treatment? And it was not $350, I was asked to pay $450 for an hour. I think you need to look at your business and how you operate and reevaluate.

Dear David Winegar, Thank you for your comment-it gave us the perfect opportunity to fact-check everything you mentioned and retrieve the evidence. Let’s set the record straight. You first reached out via LinkedIn on April 13, 2024, at 8:24 PM Vietnam Time-a Saturday night. Like many businesses, we don’t operate over the weekend, and we are sure you don’t expect anyone to jump on your message at that time. You then sent another LinkedIn message on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 5:39 PM, saying you were in Saigon. We responded on April 16, 2024, at 3:42 PM, asking if you wanted to book a 1-hour legal consultation. As of now, we haven’t received any reply from you on LinkedIn. In the meantime, you messaged us on Facebook on Tuesday, April 16, at 8:57 AM Vietnam Time, asking to schedule a meeting. We responded the next day at 7:44 PM, informing you that to secure a meeting, you needed to proceed with payment via the checkout link for a 1-hour legal consultation at $350. The same day, you asked, "Would it be possible to have a meeting on Thursday anytime between 11.00 and 15.00?" We replied that Thursday, April 18, was a national holiday and asked if you could meet the next day. Fast forward, we agreed to meet on Friday, April 19, at 9:30 AM. Now, you claim we canceled your appointment, but here’s the kicker-you never secured it in the first place as requested! If you’re going to call someone out online, at least get your facts straight. And let’s be real-if you were serious about doing business in Vietnam, you would have done your due diligence. At the very least, you should have known the national holidays of the country you’re in. Failing to recognize that doesn’t exactly scream “prepared” for someone wanting to open a business here. We don’t need to prove anything to you. You reached out to us because you saw the value in the over 500 videos of content we’ve provided and thought you could get more for free. Time and knowledge have a cost. If you’re not happy with the hand we’ve extended, that’s on you, but don’t expect to take the whole arm without paying for it. Our services are for those who value expertise and are willing to invest in it. If that’s not you, then maybe it’s time to reconsider what you’re looking for. Don't be sour, Mr. Winegar!

Let’s set the record straight with specific details, dates, and times. The facts speak for themselves, and they don’t align with the narrative you’re trying to spin. 1. Initial Contact via LinkedIn: o You first reached out on LinkedIn on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 8:24 PM Vietnam Time. This was outside of our business hours, as most professional firms don’t operate over the weekend. You followed up on Monday, April 15, 2024, at 5:39 PM, mentioning you were in Saigon. We promptly responded on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 3:42 PM, asking if you would like to book a 1-hour legal consultation. No response was received from you on LinkedIn after that. 2. Follow-up via Facebook: o You then contacted us on Facebook on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, at 8:57 AM. We responded on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 7:44 PM, informing you that to secure a meeting with Attorney Ken Duong, you needed to proceed with a $350 payment via the checkout link provided. You did not follow through with this payment. 3. Your Request for a Meeting on April 18th: o You requested a meeting on Thursday, April 18, between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM. We informed you that April 18 was a national holiday in Vietnam and proposed meeting on Friday, April 19, at 9:30 AM instead. Despite this, you never completed the payment to secure the appointment. 4. Your Email Request and Our Response: o On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 5:25 PM, you sent an email suggesting that Attorney Ken meet you at your apartment’s coffee shop at 8:00 AM on Friday, April 19, 2024, without securing the payment. To go meet you? Seriously?! You even requested an invoice sent to your company’s billing address but you failed to pay! 5. Our Efforts to Accommodate You: o Our legal assistant, Chloe, responded on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 6:03 PM, asking if we could move the meeting to the following week, as Ken had a prior commitment taken because YOU DID NOT SECURE YOUR TIME SLOT WITH PAYMENT. She also mentioned that our accountant would send you the invoice, which was done promptly. 6. Your List of Questions: o You sent us a detailed list of questions about establishing a joint venture in Vietnam and even mentioned that you needed specific pricing for your project’s budget. We addressed your queries, proposed alternative meeting times (including online options), and provided an invoice for the consultation. Despite all this, you did not make the payment to secure the meeting. 7. The Alleged Cancellation: o On Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:18 AM, our legal assistant Chloe Do sent you another email outlining Attorney Ken’s availability for the following week and providing a direct payment link via Square again! Despite this, you never completed the payment, meaning no appointment was secured, and therefore nothing was canceled. 8. Your Expectations: o You seem to believe that by simply sending a list of questions and requesting an invoice, you had secured a meeting. However, the fact is, you only completed part of the process. You never made the payment, which was clearly communicated as a requirement to confirm the appointment. You clearly understood the second part of our message, which was to send a list of questions. Strangely enough, you did not understand the first part, which was sending the payment receipt to us! 9. Misleading Claims and Lack of Follow-Through: o You requested an invoice, but you didn’t pay it. You wanted Ken to go out of his way to meet you at your convenience without following the simple step of securing the appointment with payment. You misunderstood the process, and now you’re attempting to place the blame on us. 10. Accusations of Insulting Customers: Let’s address this “insulting the customer” claim. Respect goes both ways. Expecting us to drop everything and reschedule other clients just because you have a limited time is not only unrealistic but also disrespectful. Do you expect airlines to give you tickets for free just because you checked the flight dates? No? Then why expect us to give you our time and expertise for nothing? In Summary: • Fact 1: You sent us many questions and requested an invoice, but you never paid to confirm the meeting. • Fact 2: We proposed several alternative times to meet, including online options, which you did not secure by paying. • Fact 3: You expected us to rearrange commitments without having made the necessary payment to confirm your appointment. • Fact 4: You’re now spreading misinformation by claiming we canceled an appointment that was never secured due to your own failure to follow through. If you’re going to make accusations, at least get your facts straight. We operate on a clear and transparent process-payment confirms a booking, not sending a list of questions or requesting an invoice. If you had followed through, we would have been more than happy to meet, whether online or in person. We pride ourselves on providing top-tier service to clients who value our expertise and are willing to invest in it. If that’s not you, then we’re not the right fit. But don’t twist the facts to cover up your own lack of follow-through. If you’re genuinely interested in a consultation, you know the steps. Otherwise, we wish you the best in finding a service that suits your expectations. End of the discussion.

If the Vietnam government keep changing the damn law your advice will be no good in a week keep paying for wrong advice.
@duongglobalbusinessconsulting

That's exactly why you need someone who stays on top of these changes. Laws do change, especially in a fast-evolving market like Vietnam, and that’s why having a legal expert who knows the landscape and adapts quickly is crucial. The point isn’t to pay for advice that becomes outdated-it’s to pay for expertise that anticipates those changes and keeps you ahead of the curve. If you’re getting the wrong advice, it’s because you’re going to the wrong people. Quality legal counsel isn’t about a one-time fix; it’s about ongoing support that ensures you’re always on solid ground, no matter how the laws shift.

@dominiconguyen3905, let's set the record straight. The idea that just because we are working in Vietnam means we should be charging less is a fundamental misunderstanding of how value works in the legal industry. Our pricing isn’t based on where we are sitting; it’s based on the results we deliver and the 15+ years of international experience that backs it up. You mentioned costs like taxes and living rates-those are irrelevant when it comes to the value of expertise. You’re not paying for where we live; you’re paying for the ability to navigate complex legal landscapes, avoid costly pitfalls, and achieve successful outcomes that could save you far more than what you are investing upfront. Also, the notion that all law firms in Vietnam are cheap is just plain wrong. Quality legal services have a cost-whether you are in Vietnam, the U.S., or anywhere else. If you think you’re getting a “deal” with bargain-bin rates, you’re likely getting what you pay for, and that’s often a whole lot of nothing. So, if you’re looking for someone to just tell you what you want to hear at a cut-rate price, we are not your guy. But if you want real results, backed by real expertise, then that’s exactly what we deliver. Don’t confuse low cost with value-they’re not the same thing.
