NEW VIDEO: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poG8iqtuesiMf9k !!! second channel: kzbin.info NOTE: I want to add that different hair needs different care and so a lot of hair types (especially close to 4c) would manage this just fine !! This experiment is only for my hair type and is not reflective of the hair care of other types n styles !!! I massaged my hair in the shower, as well as brushing my hair nearly every day. I think the problem was not using the right brush!! 🖤🖤 Some people have also mentioned that this video was potentially insensitive towards people with depression or similar mental health illnesses. As someone who as suffered from depression myself, this was not at all my intention. This video was simply an experiment investigating sebum regulation - it was made for the purpose of science and myth busting. It is not at all intended as a commentary on depression, or a mockery of that experience. Thank you for understanding !!! Just so you know, but if you brush your hair from the bottom going up you get the best results, brushing your hair while its wet is bad for the hair cause it's when it's most brittle which is why so much hair came out.

How exactly is this insensitive to people with depression? I have anxiety, depression, etc... I'm not feeling any emotions except excitement and joy because I love your content.
@quickpawmaud4 жыл бұрын
I have had severe depression my entire life. Luckily I am doing well now (on a ton of meds) but being forced to stay home and ruining my schedule is not helping. I am technically bipolar but my manic episodes only last a day or so. I don’t think this is insensitive at all. Just because a symptom of depression can be ignoring body care does not make a completely unrelated experiment insensitive.

I did this for about 2 weeks when quarantine started and it was about the same stage as your day 20...It got the point where I washed because i just couldn't take the itching anymore. I personally have lots of thick, quite curly hair and washing my hair every 2 days would be considered a daily workout for me; especially considering I'm trying to grow it out. My friends think i am seriously mad when i say that i wash around every 3-5 days depending on my grime factor... Then i remember that its healthier for my hair and I'm saving time, water, energy and most importantly money!!! love you Ellbat

If you ever decide to try this again, keep these two things in mind. When rinsing your hair, make sure you scrub your scalp like if you were using shampoo. And also if you will use a boar bristle brush it helps distribute your natural oils so your hair doesn't get so oily looking and it shouldn't get matted. FYI You were getting there!

If you ever really struggle with washing your hair again, you can actually wrap it in cotton or linen scarves to somewhat manually degrease it without as much effort. It will not look clean, but it just helps a bit and keeps dirt and excess grease from building up. You can alwo do bird baths with baby wipes just cleaning the smelly parts. You don't even have to remove all of your clothes which can help.

I have stopped washing my hair for 2 months now (man with shoulder length hair). It's still a fine tuning experiment. What I have found out what works for me (everyone's hair and scalp is different): -Brush every day with dry hair to get the loose hair out and spread the natural oils. -Rinse once a week, and rub your fingers over your scalp as if you were washing your hair. We shed a lot of skin cells every day and your head is no exception to this. - If you get dandruff, mix a tablespoon of Bicarbonate Sodium (baking soda) with a few tablespoons of water to make a paste. Then wet your hair in the shower and push out most of the water out of your hair with your hands. Then, take a bit from the baking soda paste and start washing your scalp. Apply the pressure that feels good for you. Only wash the scalp, not the hair strands. -Don't rub the devil out of your hair with that towel. Just pat it until damp. -Dry that hair. Either air dry (not in a knot) or dry with a blow drier on the lowest heat setting. Also, too much heat is the enemy of hair. Make sure that that shower is not too hot. I am also still fine tuning, so any tips are welcome.

like others have said - this is a reality for those with severe depression - myself included. I used to wash my hair every other day and it was immediately greasy on the second day. I went for an absurdly long time not washing my hair and now i can go a good week before it looks distinctly "dirty" i wouldnt wear it down but its about what most would consider 2nd or 3rd day hair. I currently wash once, maybe twice a month tops and honestly when my hair is JUST washed, its frustratingly soft. Its like trying to deal with synthetic doll hair in that it knots so easily but also just wont stay up and slips out of any style i put it in. I dont think theres any benefit to NEVER shampooing your hair, but you can deffinately do this for a good reset. letting your hair get good and greasy once in a while is good for your hair as the grease is essentially conditioner and protectant for your hair. Before washing i will brush out the dead hair, then work in sections with a fine toothed comb to lift up any dead skin on my scalp and move it down the hair. this alone removes a good chunk of the dandruff. this i do once or twice a week. then when i wash my hair i will wash 3 times. Once to lift dirt, second to remove the dirt and then to actually impart the shampoo and make it nice and shiny. I will put conditioner from my shoulders to tips after the second wash and then rinse that out with the third wash. I currently have nearly knee length thick hair, and it was ankle length till i cut it back to hip length right at the beginning of the year.
@nova44763 жыл бұрын
wow i’ve never seen someone mention the doll hair feeling! i have wavy/curly hair and i wash my hair once a week or every other week. not because of my hair type, but because of my depression. i try to brush through it as much as i can or have it up in a bun or in braids. when i eventually wash it, i shampoo it dry and then shampoo it wet to really get the build up off. i really was shocked to see how much my hair grows! it’s at belly button length right now but im constantly trimming and cutting. thank you for your comment :)

Hey Ell... how did your hair feel after the first wash after the 30 days?? When I was in college 30 years ago (and actually had hair), my two roommates and I decided to see who could go the longest with out washing our hair, we all had 80's metal hair (mine was more like Axel Roses). My roommates lasted a week, I lasted 1 1/2 weeks. I'll tell you what, my hair (and my roommates agreed about there's) felt really soft and healthy. What you should try, like what we did, is that we never got our hair wet when we took our showers.

You missed a few things. Firsts people from the past didn't rinse thier hair every other day. Second they brushed thier hair with a BRISTLE brush everyday twice a day for a few mins. This spread the oil and got out the dust dirt and skin. So that's why you feel like shit
@DeeLaBee4 жыл бұрын
This is actually where the whole "hundred brushstrokes a day" came from, because Back Then, the soaps would actually make hair brittle and breakable, so you couldn't use soap in your hair. Hence, the hundred brushstrokes. Using a pig-bristle brush, you'd brush the oils from your scalp to the end of your hair, and while doing so would brush out dirt and dead skin. Women's hair would be long and clean due to this. In short, it might have gone better with the addition of a pig-bristle brush used each day.

@cathyneill29224 жыл бұрын
Yep, I have long (I mean thigh long) thick wavy hair that I don't wash more than once a month or two (when I dye the roots, basically) and only use conditioner and coconut oil. Leaving it out would be pretty impractical (for several reasons) but by taking the ties out of my braid/tail (think Kahl Drogo's ponytail) and combing it with a fine tooth comb starting at the bottom and working up, then taking out of a ponytail and combing from top of the scalp, it removes most of the dust and skin that might accumulate, along with any hair fall. The coconut oil, which I have to apply after washing and a couple of times per week to prevent mad frizz and make combing/brushing possible anyway, has enough anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that it smells quite clean and I don't get the dandruff I always had as a kid. You definitely shouldn't shower with long hair without brushing out the knots and hair fall thoroughly first, let alone if not using conditioner, because it weakens in water and you will just pull out clumps of snapped hairs along with the hair fall
@koshersalt1794 жыл бұрын

(~ 2 weeks now (I usually wash once or twice a week - or whenever it felt too disgusting**) but I'll probably wash it tomorrow) **For some reason, aside from a little bit of itch (idk if it's because I'm annoyed or it's actually itchy - probably both) - it's become less disgusting (it's also dry rn...grease might come when I start doing stuff tho - idk how but it does?)......I'm just hoping I no longer have dandruff (idk if it's like a medical condition 'cause I never checked) but I always feel like I have dandruff (my mom says it's fine so maybe I'm just too self conscious...) [Like I think it's more head skin than dandruff because I realised I accidentally pick scabs.. - now I don't scratch much so it doesn't sting when I wash my hair - yay? Maybe I just need to brush my hair a lot more...]

ai chan The dandruff thing actually is a medical condition called sebarocdermititus (I didn’t spell it right sorry) I actually have the condition myself and it is were you scalp produces much more dandruff and can cause large patches of skin on the scalp to flake off making the scalp very tinder and causes it to become very painful is touched or scratched. It is treatable but I believe that it is a permanent condition. Some treatments (that I know of and use) are a shampoo that you leave in the scalp for up to 5 minutes and a liquid/serum that you put on the scalp and leave it their overnight. The liquid/serum makes your hair feel and look a bit greasy and I find it helps to put it up in a ponytail. Both of these treatments are prescription and can be prescribed by your dermatologist. I hope this helped you out!

Yeah but the thing is, with the no-poo challenge, you're not supposed to just rinse it with water and call it a day. You're supposed to use vinegar and baking soda and it does actually clean your hair.
@kenc36223 жыл бұрын
It might be worth doing it again but thoroughly brush your hair morning and night every day. Use clean scarves to put it up and avoid braids. This will absorb some of the oils and that along with the brushing will keep it cleaner and fairly well conditioned. Edit. If you want your hair to look fabulous you should consider using baking soda mixed in water to scrub your hair then rinse it with apple cider vinegar mixed with water before rinsing i with just water.. It will leave your hair healthier, nearly tangle free and looking amazing. My wife has done this for more than 4 years with amazing results.

Useing a boar bristle brush is essential to clean the scalp and pull the oil to the ends to condition the hair naturally. THEN right after wash your hair with warm or lukewarm water right afterwards massaging with fingertips. I have found I have to do this for longer than I would for shampooing. It helps to have a strong flow of water and to massage and rinse from several directions including hanging your head down. In addition I've been no poo for about 10 years now and have always washed at least once a week with something weather it be a cowash, baking soda, rice water, shakaki, or some lather of bar soap (which bar soap is my least favorite). Never have I heard of no poo people just not cleaning their scalp or hair at all. Going no poo is actually a bit higher maintenance in my experience but worth it. My hair is so oily I used to look like your one month hair or worse after not washing for only three days. Learning How and WHEN to use a boar bristle brush was for me The key to keeping my hair clean with just water for longer. I pretty much only brush right before I wash. If my ends are frizy or poofy then I have not brushed enough to get the oil to the ends. (I have 2a fine thin oily hair)

unrelated but omg when i was in 3rd grade, i was getting ready for school and I couldn't find a normal hairbrush All that i could find was a circular boar bristle brush and it got stuck in my hair I couldnt take it out and my mum used loads of conditioner and oil and it still was stuck (Luckily?) there was a typhoon and school was canceled And in the end i had bangs 😭

i know black ppl usually wash their hair less frequently and when they do, they spend a long time taking care of their hair but i just cant help but really be jealous of the less frequent wash-cycle thingy. i tried this method and it didnt work for me so now i wash my hair once every 3 days at max. is there a secret yall have or is it just the biological difference 😭😭 (im eurasian btw)
@BbGun-lw5vi2 жыл бұрын
@@aloura8931 It’s biological. Very tight curls, 3b and 4a curls, which are way more common with black people, don’t retain moisture as much as straight hair. So washing too often can strip the oils from the scalp that the hair needs to stay moisturized. Think of how black women can apply a good amount of hair oil on their hair and it and it doesn’t look greasy. But if a woman with silky, straight hair tried that, their hair would look like they poured it in oil.

Okay, as a black woman, I finally understand the confusion when I tell white ppl that I can't wash my hair more than every 1-2 weeks. I can totally see how uncomfortable that would be if they tried it. It's the exact opposite for me. My curly natural hair stays bone dry and gets brittle if I don't ADD some moisturizing leave ins and/or oils. It's basically a desert. Though I'm sure my scalp produces sebum, it's nowhere near that level, and what it does produce just doesn't travel down the curly strands like it does on much straighter hair. So it's dry and can snap so easily if I try to comb it without water/moisture products. I didn't know the sebum struggle for folks with straight hair till this video showed up.
@roveplanteater67384 жыл бұрын
I wonder if part of it is hair type as well. Im white but my hair is very frizzy and dry so If I wash any more frequent than every 4 days or so its gets brittle and breaks.

I had a friend once (she was mixed, with afro hair) who accidentally got olive oil all over her hand and then jokingly reached out towards my hair threatening to rub her hand on it, and in the process she did get a little bit of oil on my hair (mid shaft- for what that's worth) and I was like whyyyyy would you do that! I had places to be! now i have to wash my hair and style it all over again! and she didnt get why it was a big deal- cause she assumed that it would just soak in, like with her hair. Then after a neat exchange that's when she learned how (generally) oil is the enemy for straight hairstyles and I learned that water (generally) is the enemy for curly/afro hairstyles
@MsLaetitia264 жыл бұрын
@@Asbestoslover666 it depends on which hairstyles. I usually wear my afro out or in a high puff so daily, water is my best friend (because it soften and make my hair easy to manipulate) but if I straighten my hair I want to stay far away by any possible way (because of shrinkage)
