Mija Seoul is Doobydobap's restaurant located near Itaewon, Seoul. They serve 7 dishes which were created by Tina and Kevin. I highly recommend you checking this place out if you visit seoul. Thanks for watching !!

A lot of people aren't realizing that Dooby isn't really a chef, she's more of a home cook with a background in food science. Some of you are saying this is an "elevated" version of the food she typically makes, but tbh it's more so experimental than elevated. And I'm not surprised by the way everything is served; Tina lives a pretty boujee lifestyle so it would make sense for her to have a modern fine dining style restaurant

However, I think she was expecting to be more involved as a food lover, but realized it could cause more conflict than neccessary, and also she probably realized it was distracting from her content a bit. Dooby is an "influencer". She is attractive and quirky. That doesn't equal hard working or talented. Not to say that she isn't those things, and she most certainly is better than me in those categories. However, when you succeed in social media, you aren't necessarily certified to open a frigging restaurant. There are certain human skills that you need, that I myself do not have and probably will never aquire.

Kevin, the head chef, has a background in fine dining so that's probably why they went with that route. They might market it as "home cooking", but it's clearly more elevated than that. This was an interesting video to watch from another perspective. Tina has always said that it’s tasting menu style similar to omakase with beverage pairings so it was cool seeing the different dishes. What I think people in the comments need to understand is that, while it’s different food from dooby’s content that got her popular, this restaurant is a collaboration between her and her partner. Her Tiktok content is more accessible and typical of what you’d find in the average Korean diet, but this restaurant is her opportunity to go in depth on her food science background and discover how different ingredients can play off of each other. This restaurant concept that Tina and Kevin created with their team sets them apart from the industry and offers something new in my opinion. I also think it really showcases both their knowledge and appreciate of food and flavors so I applaud them on this endeavor! And applaud you for sharing this dining experience with us.

maybe i can provide a different perspective because i ate here about a month ago without knowing who doobydobap was at all (my friend booked the reservation because she's a fan but the rest of our party didn't have a clue) and because of that i didn't know what type of food to expect. I personally enjoyed the experience, we got the alcohol pairing with the autumn menu (we paid an extra 12,000 won for the additional galbijim dish which was our favorite) and it was a little under $100 per person. Everyone at our table was completely stuffed at the end of the 8-9 dishes, though i will say based on this video the autumn menu was much heartier/filling than the summer menu. really good food in seoul is quite affordable so this definitly is pricey in consideration of that but compared to fine dining experiences back in LA or other parts in the states I found it to be reasonable and a nice experience. I think if I went here knowing the food content she makes online i'd be taken aback but as is i liked it. probably wouldn't do it again because i'm not the biggest fan of fine dining in general (if you're into the vibes, that's cool but i'd prefer regular restaurants and street food) but i didn't think it was a rip off at all and was reasonable for the experience and food.

A lot of people in the comments talking about "this is fine dining! you can't expect huge portions!" Fine dining is not equal to a degustation menu, and this is clearly the latter. The size portion is ok for the entrees, but not for the main courses or dessert, the main course should have protein and be a little bit bigger. One tiny squid kimbap? three tiny dumplings? one bite size piece of pork? doesn's sound like enough... If that was the only dessert course, then the portion is very little, and mostly water because it's watermelon. Also, the plating and choice of dishes could be much better (that first entree alone would look much more intriguing in a long rectangular plate, rather than a regular round one). This is (in my opinion) a strange hybrid of omakase and degustation, omakase has more courses, and degustation has more filling ones. It fails to reach the standard for any on these two. The food might be great, I'm not trying to criticize that, but the expectation doesn't match the reality, from what I'm seeing

Yeah....the plating is very amateurish n makes the food look unappetising. The food presentation is subpar, they should learn from some of the better omakase joints.

The concept of the place is actually really unique, with the obvious inspiration from korean traditions but also a bit of a modern twist on the dishes themselves. The alcohol pairing is also interesting. People in the comments dont understand the distinction between normal restaurants and fine dining. I think the only complaint i would have is that some menu items seem a bit amateurish and the menu is too produce focused. Ofcourse it's hard to judge the food having never dined there. but it has a lot of potential to grow and watching the process behind the scenes on Tina's youtube makes it feel all the more personal.
@hanasong67819 ай бұрын
I'll give it to her about the wine paring being interesting but other than that, how can anyone defend the price and call it fine dining? seriously, compare this to the other fine dining restaurants in Seoul that use premium ingredients like abalone, caviar, hanwoo, snow crab, scallops etc. The only ingredients that aren't common in her restaurant are the mushroom and Jeju pork but the portions are so small that it doesn't justify her price point. I hope she revamps the entire menu and start using better ingredients or make the food proportions bigger.
@mellaniefaf66819 ай бұрын
@hanasong6781 i agree completely. The plating and creativity is also lacking heavily for a fine dining place. But they're a new business and this is their first menu so now is the time to make mistakes and learn. Hopefully her winter menu brings some upgrades.
@dangerislander8 ай бұрын
Omg this comment section is a mess. Tina herself said it's supsoed to be homestyle food your mother cooks. But it looks like fine dining. Which is it?
@coffeebytesyt8 ай бұрын
I rather go to authentic fine dining places which are reputed than to go to rookie place which costs crazy which is advertised as home cooked meals
@appu55938 ай бұрын
Lol you should listen to what Tina mentioned: "..the concept is supposed to be homestyle food your mother cooks." Does your mom serve you a fancy dinner comprising of two peas on a plate with some barbeque sauce over it for dinner?" Her fans need to quit coming up with random excuses to back this up. And no, people in the comments do understand what fine dining is and as someone who has had multiple fine dining experiences I can tell..this isn't it. So stop trying to put this on the audience cos not all of us are stupid. Fine dining experiences include serving food that is made using super expensive or rare ingredients not just something grown on your terrace for which you charge a bomb. There is a whole lot more etiquette to be followed and often times the price you pay is for the chef who is preparing your food. These chefs need to have gotten a certain level of recognition from the culinary world and several years of work experience as well and not just any rookie chef who happens to have worked in a Michelin restaurant. No matter what you say the price they are charging for what they are giving is not justified!

Im not really surprised. From the standpoint of someone who has worked in kitchens for several years at many asian restaurants, I still dont consider my experience near good enough to open a fancy restaurant like this without having better skill. Idk tbh she could have made it more accessible since she is a homecook and not a trained chef.
