BTW, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Detroit is called Corktown because it was largely inhabited by immigrants from Cork, Ireland. It's also where the Detroit Tigers baseball team had their stadium from 1912-1999. Slàinte! ~Be Blessed

From New York. Visited Ireland right before the pandemic. We stopped saying our ancestors hailed from cork (we read the room),,,until we got to cork of course!! LOL Our trip took us to Belfast too…great place…mind your religion there. Looking forward to visiting Ireland again!!

I understand you point - my Irish friends whom I love dearly have an issue about bringing Cork up into every single conversation about Ireland, Irish Culture and things to do. It does get tiresome hearing non-stop pro-Cork until I got fed up and said then why did you leave and move to Texas and become a US Citizen? Suddenly they got quiet. I am sure it is a lovely place but if they are any indication of the fine folks from Cork, I can understand why some get tired of them talking, and I LOVE my friends lol. We were talking about a newer Jack Daniels Whiskey, oh I tried that ages ago in a pub in Cork, I just had a custom cabinet put in and they said they had finer craftsman for cheaper in Cork... It is great to love your local areas but relax a bit, have a pint, a shot, or a bottle of good whiskey and take it down a notch.

I proposed to my wife on vacation in Cork (on Cape Clear) and I honestly felt it was the best place to do it. It was just so beautiful there, and there are so few places that rival its beauty. Now that I'm living in Ireland 2 years later, I can honestly say Cork is still my favorite county (Donegal is a close second)

It's actually a quality that shows a persons ability to learn. eg. rubbing sticks together to start a fire vs. a Bic Lighter. Trust me, there a plenty of people who think rubbing sticks is the way to do it because "it's traditional".

I feel Cork city and Cork county should be separated, that way you can still put Cork city in last place. Cork county (minus Cork city) obviously should near the top, just behind Dublin and that county in the west which likes just taking part in all Ireland finals but never actually wins.
