More people need to know about this. I pieced together a live-edge, height-adjustable, premium desk for less than $1000. Most desk companies are charging $3000-$5000 for the same thing! Check it out.

After doing so much research into desks that suit my needs, after about a week and a half I settled on a manual-height-adjustable desk frame with live edge on top. Then BAM KZbin hit me with this 🤟 This was exactly what I needed to understand exactly what I wanted. Thank you for this 🤟

If you didn’t know, you can currently get a butcher block that’s about 98 inches at ikea it seems for $300 if you choose to have it in walnut which is honestly quite a steal if you ask me, though you can get it cheaper if you chose any of there other wood options.

pretty sure the ikea ones are not solid wood. they are just a wood veneer with cheap particle board inside.

so the Jarvis hand crank frame is no longer available (at least in Canada). I ended up going with the Flexispot Pro Plus Standing Desk (E7) with C shaped frame as it was one of the only ones I could find that has the c-shape. I thought this was an important distinction from the typical frame with the leg in the middle. So far it's pretty solid, a little bit of wobble when at full height but from what I've read you can't avoid this with standing desks unless you get one of the ones with 4 legs (Deskhaus Apex for example) which are very pricey.

Was thinking of a similar setup for a kitchen office setup. I wondered what the stability might be like on the castors with an ultra wide. What monitor and mount are u running I would want to move it about a reasonable amount on the mount and on the castors but would be over a smooth tiled floor. Do you think it would hold up. Great video subscribed for the next one.
@runthejoules
@runthejoules 2 жыл бұрын
Zero issues with stability on castors. There's a ton of weight on the far side of the desk (monitor, speakers, power banks, the laptop...nearly everything) and I have no concerns when moving it around the room, our when I'm swivelling the monitor around. Should be even better on a smooth surface (mine is on carpet). Hope that helps!

(I used to work for an aforementioned company) how many times did you have to reorder the table top? 😂 we had costumers have to reorder all the time because wood counter tops came split all the time. So, there is probably reason why the counter was so cheap, trying to get people to order them, maybe?

How stable is this? I've been leaning toward getting a 4-leg desk, but I hesitate because I like having my desk low enough to touch my legs and a bar there would be uncomfortable. But, I also want stability (FPS gaming).
@robbie6625
@robbie6625 7 ай бұрын
If you wanted to make sure it was rock solid, you might look into uplift. They make commercial grade bases. Of course having feet instead of casters would also increase your stability.

How's your desk holding up today? I'm looking at the reviews for the Teak live edge butcher's block on Home Depot and there are many complaints and pics of splintered wood and poor quality. I'd love to do this, but the reviews are making me wary.

So far so good for me. I did oil it when I got it like they recommend, so maybe that has helped. I also use it for an office desk and not a kitchen island, so it sees a lot less hard usage than in that kind of situation. Hope that helps!

@@runthejoules Why the casters? Do you really need to move the desk that often? Love it btw, just curious about your decision since I'm debating adding casters to my desk setup as well. But I'm cautious because I feel like it might make the desk more unstable when fully extended? And any unevenness on the floor is greater than if you spread the weight of the table across the full foot.

@@runthejoules I'd like to express great personal gratitude for the awesome hint with Interbuild. Where I live now, in Holland, good wooden table tops cost literally a fortune, and you often also need to cover them yourself with stain or oil, also delivery is quite expensive. But with your advice, I am planning to buy an acacia desk and make up a perfect working set up, after having spent a good couple of months watching highly - esthetic videos of somebody else's desks
