The artistic vision in this game is great. The game, and the life of a pirate was about the sea and sailing. Months were spent at sea without the sight of land. People are mad you can explore land or raid ships, but pirates lost money while on land and everytime the ship was docked. People are all mad it's not a Christopher Columbus or viking game.

Honestly, despite PvP being a pretty essential part of a good multiplayer pirate game, I think this would've been better being a co-op only pirate game with Black Flag boarding and combat. yup, i'm watching Brad play it too. those vids DEFINITELY convinced me to NOT buy this game. the faces on the cutscene NPC vendors and the 'turn in mission get new mission' characters, Spurlock and the smuggler lady that Brad just put out the video on today... gah, that looks like 2000-2010 era animations. their faces are dead flat, no eyebrow movements, their mouths are just lip flaps and not always synched with the dialogue. the player character never talks! you get two conversation choices with Spurlock every time and neither one has any impact i could notice on Brad's videos. did you notice how CRAPPY the animated backdrop to Spurlock's office is? his 'grand window' balcony sometimes looks like High School Play STAGECRAFT PROPS! 2D barely moving pieces of paper! just watching Brad's vids? i can't rate this game an A let alone AAAA... i would barely place Skull and Bones as a low B or high C. the only things increasing it from a high C? are the HUGE amount of content items, cosmetics, and different little missions you can do. plus, it does look pretty to GORGEOUS in places.

It had a chance to be a new Gem in the Pirate Games Universe. Sid Meiers Pirates and Sea Dogs for example are super old Pirate Games and have so many possibilities that all of that i hoped will be to some extend also in Skull and Bones. With Black Flag they had many ingredients of a good Pirate game and they could extend on the Features. The wheel does not have to be reinvented to be better or a great game. It just can use the ingredients from the last good game and build upon that. For Example the newly released Caribbean Legend which is also a Sea Dogs game. Its a game that may not look so modern in terms of graphics, but it stayed loyal to its Fanbase and in its core is still like the old Pirate Games because it didnt reinvent the Wheel and kept the Freedom of Choice, Land combat, Trading System and Sea battles with actual boarding where you need to fight... that remind me of the times i played the old games...and its a pity that so many features i hoped will be in Skull and Bones, are not in the Game. Maybe with time itll get better. I hope so. But time will tell.

As someone who has put in several hours on this game, I can agree with some of what you said but not all of it and cant help but feel like some of the points you made are just a bit misleading. (side note because you seemed confused about it, the first initial battle in the very beginning is meant to be lost just like many other openings for games hence not seeing a health bar for the enemy ships during that fight) 1. Yes the beginning is so slow and bland 2. Yes the first hour is a lot of sailing back and fourth 3. Yes the character models are slightly lackluster 4. Yes the some of Points Of Interest don't have a whole lot going on BUT... 1. The game REALLY DOES open up immensely with the amount of different things you can do after a bit (see number 5 below for more) **2**. The ship combat mechanics become way more intriguing when you start leveling up your ship and crafting new types of weaponry 3. There are in fact MANY Points Of Interest/Islands that have many different secrets that are discoverable via npc dialogue that actually has value in what they tell you **4**. Nearly all Points of Interest are worth going to because each location's vendor has different ship or weaponry BLUEPRINTS (which are fundamental in upgrading your ship), as well as unique cosmetics only sold in those locations. ***5***. Lastly, the game as whole and the amount of fun really begins mid to late game as more difficult and brand new types of game modes and challenges become available EXCLUSIVELY AT HIGHER RANKS. I personally WOULD recommend this game but is it worth full price? No, not really. I'd say its worth 40-45 dollars max. And again the game almost solely becomes worth it mid to late game. Who knows, you might enjoy it as much as the game's community does despite all the backlash

I’m enjoying it, I understand some of the criticisms I just personally still think the ship combat is fun and there’s potential for it to grow more moving forward. It is pretty grindy and the fast travel costs can be annoying but I’ve had some crazy battles against other players and alongside them in the “endgame events”. When the season properly starts I am hopeful there will be more variety too.

It's a bare minimum of a pirate, it's not even a pirate game. A ship battle game. When you control your character on hubs feels disconnected from the world, an after thought and it feels like it use be a menu hut made it into a hub. Imagine watching Pirates of the Caribbean, but all the footage happens on the ship. The atrocious Pre-orders packs MTXs design to milk a sinking ship. Overall, it feels like chores to play Skulls and Bones.

I know people dont like the game as it planned out being what it was supposed to be, but i do enjoy playing with my friends. It's more fun with friends, with the spectral hunts, black market and some grinding for blueprints for your ships. If you dont like certain aspects of the game or the game at all thats fine everyone has a choice. My opinion if you do play, play with friends, you get drop bonus loot shinking ships.

Is the other way around with me. I played lot's of AC game before black flag. Ac2 it self have 3 titles, so I played 5 AC game before black flag (although AC3 also have a bit of Naval system), and I played another 3 AC title before Skull n Bone released. Too much AC for me already. So I want the naval game like black flag without AC in it. And this game deliver it. The game deliver tons of fun for me so far. It have most of Black Flag system and more, but It cut down everything AC about it.. no need to spend too much time on the ground, on the wall, on a tree or on the rooftop. It's all Naval... just the way I want it.

All they had to do was make boarding ships, a lot different than black flag assigning crew could’ve been a different thing and training them. All they had to do was take our combat worked at the time of the golden age of the Pirates and put that into the game. Not this whatever this concoction is, has really nothing to do with being a pirate. Our first taste of being on a ship was Assassin’s Creed three, and the combat on that felt pretty good. Black flag when you boarded a ship. It became monotonous on how you boarded it had to climb up the top cut down the flag. I cut it as made it where you bought the ship and kill everybody all intimidate them to surrender. But boarding a ship as an intricate part of being a pirate. Improving the skills of your pirates, where certain shots might actually miss in full short or over go over that could’ve been an interesting dynamic. Whoever thought this was a good idea to do it. This way should be fired. Assassin’s Crees Mirage was a great game. This was not, and now you be soft on a PlayStation network offering you eight hours of a free trial. I think after the first three, I think people become very very bored. I’ve lost a fortune on this game and the commentary on. This was absolutely spot on. This is a don’t buy or don’t recommend. When the gameplay comes out and people are playing, you can see if you like it but at this stage I would stay the well away from it.

Let's be honest not everything is gonna be for everyone. I guess you could say I'm one of the few that is enjoying the game play. I enjoy the exploring aspect of it really discovering new things. The farming of resources, collecting ammo. In your video , when you were doing the treasure heart , he didn't notice that the picture that's on the map right is what you were supposed to look for And the maps also give you hints. It’s honestly kind of impressive and also sad how they sort of missed basically what made black flag work so well as a pirate fantasy game. That ability to just jump off of the ship and explore a desert island and find treasure on foot was part of the magic of it. Being able to fight other pirates in a pitched sea battle was part of the Fantasy of a pirate game. When people said they wanted black flag without the assassin stuff, they didn’t mean take out everything that was on foot. XD

Spot on...I mean seriously when I even think first about a pirate game I think of sword fights with pirates...treasure hunts maybe defend from other pirates or even steal treasure from them....one shot pistols game play fights....I mean even the cartoonish sea of thieves game beats the hell out of this game.

Ubisoft has been dropping the ball lately. The last decent game they made was AC Valhalla and Odyssey before that. I played Mirage for 10 minutes and felt like you do about Skull and Bones. Mirage left me wanting more, and I even told a couple of my friends that it's what you get when someone with no creativity makes a game. They've lost creativity at Ubisoft, and the days of AC Odyssey and Valhalla, and Far Cry 5 are over with! The people making the games today have no imagination!

What is weird is when it comes to game themes, there a few that stand out. And the pirate age in the Caribbean is one. Black Flag basically opened up the idea. Yet since we have had two pretty expensive AAA releases in Sea of Thieves & Skull and Bones, which have been shit.

This is the future of gaming that all major AAA game companies want, all live service mobile game trash with "Pretty" graphics. They have been very open about this and yet people still keep buying the games which is encouraging them to keep pushing toward that goal. Microsoft has already said multiple times that their goal of buying up game companies is to make gaming 100% subscription based, WB said they think all games should be live service, Sony still wants NFTs to be a thing and the list goes on.

Creators have done this partly consciously because they want to introduce certain things in AC Black Flag Remake that they do not want in this game to keep Black Flag unique. They want to bring some big improvements and new things to the Black Flag Remake and that's why they didn't use Skull & Bones to launch the new gen mechanics. This game also had a bad start in terms of layout and expectations, while Black Flag Remake will attract many more fans and enthusiasts.

In blag flag and Odyssey the naval battles are fun but tiring, you need the 3rd person gameplay to break it up. They should have added new camera modes for the ship battles to give those some variety.

70/ 69 gbp For the full game in uk. It's literally like an air ship battle game I've played but worse. It's not quadruple A that's for certain. No first person on land, no combat on land. The aiming and controls a simple and janky at best. Ships are very complicated to build, there's not much storyline. You can only play with 3 friends. It has alot to improve on and I certainly would not recommend paying full price for it as you will find it exceptionally boring. No sword play, no gun play on land. The map is fairly difficult to use and so is the movement, its very indie feeling. It's arcadey not simulation. You want naval simulation esc play warthunder or world of warships. I was expecting a skyrim styled open world pirate adventure to play with my freinds and I was very very disappointed. Quest grind, quest grind, no fighting or sword play. An 11 year game and once again it feels rushed and finished off quickly. So I would not recommend this game. You can't even get onto other ships to fight, it just grabs them and then that's it 🤷 So all in all its just an overpriced pirate arcade game. They shouldve got the OG developers from decent titles like skyrim, red dead, last of us or horizon forbidden west. With help from such developers this game could, could have been great. But without a major overhaul, I agree its not a quadruple A title. May have a quadruple A price tag but it certainly doesn't deliver the goods.

Ive played pirates of the caribean 2003, sid meyers, black flag, naval action, and this one. and it is very fun. After 12 hours I am still having fun, is it perfect, no. Is it for you, cant say. But as a person who has play a lot of pirate games, this one will be played and enjoyed a long time. So will it be "worth" it for me? yes it will. So sorry Joe, I think you got it wrong. Also I love how you only show the basic ship. Didnt progess much did we?

When Skull & Bones was first announced, I was so excited as I'm a huge fan of AC Blackflag! Fast forward to 2024 and finally I got to play the Beta version... roll on major disappointment 😢 It really doesn't live up to the hype!!! I think I'll stick to BlackFlag. I definitely will not be paying full price or any price for that matter. I'll wait for the Blackflag remake. As always thanks for your input @JorRaptor Keep those videos coming! ✌🏾👊🏾😏

The fact that they already had the blueprint there and pretty much chose to ignore it is crazy to me. Everyone wanted an actual open world rpg game focused solely on the pirate aspect from black flag but again they ignored that and went with what skull and bones is today. The reason for them to not include hand to hand combat or being able to freely explore and give the main character some depth and build and actual story is beyond me. I could see this game being fun for some for a short period of time but imo it’ll get stale real fast. One of Ubisofts biggest misses imo they had an opportunity to do something really cool that a lot of people wanted with this game and they just flopped instead. Smh

See I was afraid of buying this, due to everyone's take on it. I tried the beta, was not fully sold, as I only had a few hours to check out the game. I took a risk buying it, to cover it on my channel, and I've already sunk nearly 40 hours into it. For me it really caught me off guard. There is no denying the game is over priced.

I'm so pleased you feel this way, as I felt like I was the only person with this view. After trying the BETA, which I did enjoy, I felt it was not worth its price. The freeplay idea, even with a cosmetic battlepass for ship & pirate garb, could have worked. Thank you Come on, Ubisoft, we know you can do better than this. The last Ubisoft game I really got into was Black Flag. What an amazing title.

S&B is very visually impressive. It's a pirate ship-to-ship combat game about blowing up other ships and improving your ship, completing quests etc, all of which you can do. I have no idea what else people expected from it and why it's got all the hate. I am loving it. I have been wanting exactly this type of game for years but it never existed. Then the second someone makes one it gets piled on with hate. Forget it, the world's f-ed. Before you say, yes I played Black Flag, I was bored within 2 missions and stopped playing. If you WANT to play Assassins Creed, then go and play an Assassins Creed game.

They had 4 entire games prior that did this better. Black Flag obviously being the best one, but they had AC 3, AC Rogue and even AC Odyssey. It’s really not hard to just do that again but without the Assassin stuff

I actually bought it and I understand where you are coming from Joe. But I do see potential in it honestly it just needs more stuff added which may be what happens. I've seen this happen with other games where at first it is not very good but later on once they add a feature or two it becomes way different and may be more enjoyable. With Skull and Bones I feel like you have to make your own fun in a way or the best thing to do is play with friends and just raid. The best pirate game by far is Sea of Thieves but I would not write off Skull and Bones just yet.

Something they really have to stop doing, is the sawing mechanic I see in this game and the picking fruits and so on in Avatar. Those mechanics and the odd crafting system and the food buff completely destroyed my gaming experience. I don’t want to twist and turn my controller in a mini game every time I’m going to pick something up, hoping to get a slightly better resource so I can enter a crafting menu I don’t understand. And please, pleeeease stop making buffs like cooking meals. That have to stop in every game.

I fully believe this game was designed to be built up *over time*, and more develloped to jusitfy/lure folks into Ubisoft Plus, vs full price purchasing. I'm finally getting up in level and story, having fun! Its like a watered down AC4 ship simulator (or rather watered down/more intricate in some areas 'Black Flag', minus the AC part. Yeah, that's more accurate). Like most games now a days, and I really really hate saying this, but: *it has room to grow*. (Ugh) In the end: I believe that is the end goal for this title- develop it over time and use it as a justifier for Ubi+ (or a bonus to it, really. But it "makes more sense" to have Ubi+ if you like most of their titles that you may not own, and this game is more of a bonus for that subscription model.). In the end, fun game, room to grow, enjoyable if you liked the ship parts of AC4, dissapointing they didn't just model this as AC4 2 (or something like that). As a 40 year old vet gamer, is it worth $70 as it sits? No. Is it fun? Again, if you liked the ship stuff in AC4 and wanted to see it more fleshed out, sure! Does the game need more? Oh yeah. Is it lacking the hand to hand stuff from AC4? As an AC fan? Yes. The game assuredly needs it, or something similar. They need to just push through criticism of it being a clone on that for sure. Is it worth $70? (As a grown man vet gamer): No. Is it worth Ubi+ alone? No. With one exception: it is assuredly worth a month's sub to see if you like it (or a bonus to it, honestly). Give it time is my suggestion. Dont like it? Other titles exist on that Sub (if you maybe havent played/dont own and really really like newer style AC games). If its not your fancy just cancel the sub. If this was a $30-$40 game (as it sits): it would be worth that. So a month of Ubi+ is more than fair if interested. It took time to grow on me but it has. But I have Ubi+, and unless this game fleshes out *a whole lot*? I wont be dropping $60-$70 on it. Come three month mark I'll make my final purchase verdict, but for now its worth an Ubi+ sub, to me. YMMV, but thw game is far from a crash and burner: and assuredly needs some time to grow into its own (which, I hope that it will). End verdict on a 1-10 scale? The game is a hard 6.5~7, and that may be pushing it for non-AC:4 fans. And if you are an AC:4 fan, you have to go into this understanding it is not an AC title and really is what it initially started as: a larger expansion to AC:4, and 95% ship related. 5% is human interaction/trading/crafting ashore. And it is hard focused towards that other 95%. It 100% is a pirate ship simulator with lots of room to grow, but potential for sure.

All they had to do was strip out the AssCreed parts of Black Flag, and expand on the rest of it. That's it. Instead, we get a low-res, aquaphobic, bargain bin Jack Sparrow who let himself go, doing fetch quests whilst having desperate MTX shoved in your face every five seconds. They had the perfect fool-proof recipe and all the ingredients to make the best BBQ ribs on Earth, and somehow they managed to turn it into a moldy spam sandwich that smells of farts. I'd be impressed if I wasn't so disappointed and honestly kinda disgusted.

And that’s great, but it’s one of the best, I have ever played. It’s beautifully crafted, the detail is just incredible. The game is slow, and actually for a ship fairing game that’s perfect, you get to take in the beauty of what sailing tall ships was all about. The accompanying music and action that happens during battles is spot on. Ok the sea shanties could have been a bit more contemporary, the grinding a little less necessary.
