Hi Mate, Newly sub'd your channel. I have a useful tip for your viewers regarding Rod Guides. Wrap them in Vinegar soaked Cotton Wool and leave for about an hour. This will remove all dirt and rust from the guides. Thanks, Steve in Scotland.

Good tip on the q tips. To clean the cork use a 50 50 mix of bleach and water Use a toothbrush to scrub the cork then rinse. Comes out super clean. Does not hurt the cork. An old timer showed me this 20 years ago. Been using this on my g loomis rods all this time no problems

Have not done a thorough cleaning of my rods in several years and after your tips I made this a weekend project as we now have ice on the water. Baby wipes worked the best for me, less mess as the blocks tended to flake off. Cork sealer worked so well I put two coats on them. Cleaning the guides was easy and I was able to find and repair a couple that I didn't know were bad. Cleaning up the blanks left my rods looking almost new. Great video for me to follow.

The magic erasers are essentially sanding. Be warned that they create micro abrasions that will cause the items to retain dirt or remove top seals.

Warm water and a cloth works on everything. Worked for me for nearly 40yrs. I don't get suckered by tackle companies saying buy this and that. It's all a con to get you to buy more stuff that you don't need. Money is all they are after.

I have been cleaning my cork handles with a cotton rag and isopropyl alcohol. No hard scrubbing and no abrasion. I have 2 Eagle Claw rods from 1975 and the cork is still in perfect shape after all this time.

I use U40 on all of my Champion and Extreme rods, amazing how much it helps. Keep in mind anyone thinking about doing this, you can only do it once. So don't try to seal multiple times. Also to clean the cork baby wipes are the best think you can use... the magic eraser has abrasive properties to it and will actually sand your cork a bit. The only time you should use the eraser is if you have an older rod and want to clean it good and possibly have the sanding action. But if it is new, or once you put the U40 on, I wouldn't use anything but baby wipes from then on. I actually use baby wipes on the entire rod to clean it too and then Q tips on the guides.

Hey TJ thanks as always for answering my many questions. I recently bought an Okuma TCS M+/MF action rod. Two part question, when it says Moderate fast action does that mean the action is between moderate and fast and the second question I have is what other baits besides a jerkbait could I throw on the TCS M+ rod? Thanks as always.
@TackleJunky817 жыл бұрын
Hunter Nixon Yes sir! It's not as slow as a moderate and not as fast as a fast action rod. Great rod for treble hook baits.
@hunternixonfishing25007 жыл бұрын
TackleJunky81 okay cool cause I fish mainly dirty water and don’t really fish jerkbaits but I’ll throw a lipless crankbait all day long. I was just worried the Moderate fast action and that soft tip wouldn’t be enough to fish rattle traps
@TackleJunky817 жыл бұрын
Hunter Nixon Depends how you fish them, but overall it's a killer rod for treble hook baits.

Hey TJ81: Happy Thanksgivings to you and family. I’d like to know what is a good price range for a rod where It’s not cheap and flimsy and will break in a week or two or I’m paying for features I don’t need? Also does it matter if I’m getting a rod and reel from same company like Okuma Quantum lew’s ect?Thanks
@mainebassin81767 жыл бұрын
Brenden Grant I would say $100 is a good price range for a rod and no it doesn't matter what brand it doesn't have to be he smae
@fishingismydrug17 жыл бұрын
Abu Garcia black max, good set up. Otherwise, staying above $50 (normal retail price) each, will keep you in decent equipment. I've tried cheaper reels, they just don't last. Now through February is a great time to buy, with all the sales and boat shows coming up.
@TackleJunky817 жыл бұрын
Get what you can afford, but a 100 dollar price point will get you a solid rod.

Cork gets dirty and then too smooth/slippery for me. Strangely enough, I kind of wish they'd stay how they were when you buy them new and they're wrapped in clear plastic.....at least it's somehow tacky that way. Does the sealing and cleaning help maintain some tackiness? I generally prefer EVA handles and probably like WINN wrap/texture the most....but there are so many nice rods with cork available.
