Hi there I love your channel and your training methods, I've never had a dog before and considering getting 8weeks old rottweiler puppy in August. Would it be possible to do a series on a rottweiler puppy?? Perhaps from 8 weeks to 6 months?? Man that would be absolutely awesome, is it possible to help a novice rottweiler lover??

I’ve implemented your training methods with our 10 month old standard poodle, Argus, and he is an absolute dream. No accidents, no unnecessary barking, great recall, walks at a heal for miles at a time, and his groomer recent commented that she has NEVER met a more well-behaved dog. Prior to watching your videos, I knew nothing about dogs. To be honest, I had only been around poorly-behaved dogs, and I wasn’t even sure I liked dogs. (We finally caved and decided to get a dog after years of tears and begging from my puppy-obsessed son ) Argus has stolen all our hearts, and I am so incredibly thankful for you. Your work makes such an important difference not only in the lives of our beloved pets, but also in the lives of so many families. Thank you!!!

@susanholl59943 жыл бұрын
The German shepherd in his last series was like that. Reactive dogs are a royal pain to train and vary a lot in the timeline they recover. I've fostered a few of these. One calmed down in two days and started seeking the company of more confident dogs. My son has a bull terrier now with a history of fighting with other dogs that has taken 6 months to be able to just take him on a walk without him barking and lunging at other dogs. Training is just a lot of boring repetition in reducing the working distance from distractions.

Back clipping harnesses seem to encourage pulling. When I first adopted my puppy mill rescue girl, a female Cane Corso at 9 months old she pulled too hard for her safety so I got her a front clipping harness and slowly transitioned onto a slip lead. With a front clipping harness when they pull it just turns them around so they are facing you.
@marybowman48473 жыл бұрын
When her harness was clipped in the back (even with a martingale loop to discourage pulling) you could tell a HUGE difference in her pulling as compared to when it was clipped in the front.

There is nothing wrong with e collar training. Someone like Zack George, no offense, but cannot take on dogs that channels like SolidK9Training and others do. No chance.
@ParrotVolancy3 жыл бұрын
The e-collar does not harm when used appropriately. I use it on myself all the time to check that it's working. The level you use it at depends upon the dog and the situation. It's a method of communication, not harm. It can be misused and mistakes can be made with it, but you can say the same of a head halter.
@hannaha24373 жыл бұрын
@@ParrotVolancy and you can get the same result without adding a positive punishment (operant conditioning term)! Suppresses the response which can have adverse effects as opposed to diminishing through choice where the dog learns that not responding negatively to the stimuli means positive things! Anyway whatever I say won’t make a difference as you have a set in stone opinion :) you can say whatever, I probably won’t respond to any notifications further on, night night
@ParrotVolancy3 жыл бұрын
@@hannaha2437 I trained recall through purely positive reinforcement. The trouble is that dogs have instincts, and it is not safe to just hope and pray that they listen when those instincts kick in. This is especially true for dogs with a high prey drive and dogs who are especially hard-headed. Yes, my dogs always came back eventually, they always stayed in the area, but they didn't always come when called. You can basically see them stop and think to themselves "Nah, maybe later" or straight up ignore the cue, regardless of how many times it had been previously reinforced with every treat you can think of. They have no reason to listen in the moment. They can pursue whatever it is they want first and come back later, but what happens during that time may not always be good. The e-collar gives them a reason to listen in the moment and can get their attention if they become heavily fixated on something. How many people have you seen saying "Huskies can't be trusted offleash" or "I will never let my husky offleash"? Is it better for them to wear the e-collar or have no freedom? How many huskies have you trained for perfect recall in distracting environments with only positive reinforcement? Their recall was decent, but it was not perfect, and there was no way to snap them out of it if they wanted to go after something. I love using positive reinforcement. That is the basis of my training and what I am most familiar with through my work with parrots. But different animals require different approaches. If a tool like the e-collar can help my dogs be safe and reliable while being able to run free, I'm going to put their quality of life over militant adherence to one training philosophy.
@hannaha24373 жыл бұрын
@@ParrotVolancy ok that’s your opinion, not saying you can’t use it, just that you can get the same results without positive punishment ! I train this way and it works, I recently am boarding a rescue with a bite history and in these cases specifically e collars can be adversive, different circumstance to recall. I would rather a rescue to learn through positive reinforcement and structure then suppressing and learnt helplessness! Please don’t further converse with me, you and I are not going anywhere in this discussion!

My 4 month old husky watches dog training on KZbin. It’s so crazy. I wonder if she is learning when she watches

Wait. What? Is this a thing? What channels?
@dougr6423 жыл бұрын
@@justicefosho I don’t think it’s a thing. Mine just likes to watch other dogs. So she watches the vids. I’m curious if she is learning while she watches 🤷🏼♂️

@@dougr642 OK, I see. A learning channel for dogs would be cool though.

These videos are so useful. We habe had our rescue for 11 months now. He's a dream in quiet locations. Add distraftion and it still gets hard, slowly better. Add traffic and he is in full panic mode still :-(. Little steps! Depending where people meet us they say he's incredible or a nightmare.😅
@sharonmulan3 жыл бұрын
I feel you, I have a rescue die 1,5 years now and she's scared for traffic. I'm still struggling with this and I had dog trainers but couldn't fix this. On KZbin there are almost no videos over fixing this either, I still hope Zak will do a series about this. I love my dog and she's really amazing but the fear of traffic is pretty heavy and it would be so much easier for her if she would not have that fear. Then we would walk a lot more, now I have to drive the car for a good walk. You're not alone, hang in there! Hopefully it will get a lot better ❤🙏🏼
@Lasanie3 жыл бұрын
@@sharonmulan thank you! It's so true, there are almost no resources on that available. We also take the car for walks which is sad because we live close to a forest - but a big road in between :-(. We found that we can carry him sometimes but it's hard to progress slowly around traffic and still have a "normal" life

I got a barkbox for my two Maltese. My boy got so excited he opened the boxes and pulled out the toys. Unfortunately the passed away about about two years ago. I am getting a puppy soon and that pupbox will come in handy!

I love this series and the Moira series too. I have a primitive breed pup-a Basenji-also a rescue and training a primitive breed is SUPER different so I’m hoping you’ll tackle a primitive breed for an upcoming series…but loving George and all of his progress.

Part of the reason he may delay with you calling his name and with commands is bc you use his name and say commands when talking to us. He waits and then checks back to see if you actually meant it, bc sometimes you are talking about him and not to him.

Can you make a video on cool tricks to teach your dog outside of sit, stay, lay down, roll over? My pup has stuff like 'give me your paw' and 'twirl' down and she is looking for more!

My little guy (4 months) and I are working on “stay”. Still not so reliable but we are gettting there. Thanks Zak (and your team) for your hard work and showing us that not all dogs listen all the time. People like to criticize when Jax doesn’t listen… they only see the 5% when he is super distracted. Geez, I don’t listen when I’m distracted too! LOL!! I’m still looking for that high currency though… treats and toys don’t work all the time.

I really want to see you do one of these series with a small breed dog. Like a yorkie, terrier... etc. I have a small dog. Small dogs tend to be more stubborn and think they are a big dog. So yah. That is what I think u should do next. Just my opinion.

💖Love your videos. Keep up the great utubes...... I'm a Foster parent, I currently have a female staffy cross. 🐕 She was soooo dumbed down, just ignored you, & abit withdrawn. She has responded really well to training & now knows all the basics, half mastered the roll over, loves the dog park, is great socially, such a snuggle puss too. She is Going up for adoption soon.☺️ and will bring joy to her new 👫parents.
