FYI: CT scanning was only made possible because of “The Beatles”, yes the band. The money they made helped fund projects like this and also another fun FYI: The guy who invented the CT scan? Ya, he had no care about the medical field for this particular invention. That was a happy by-product. Wanna know what he wanted to make it for (due to a random conversation he had while on vacation no less)? He wanted to know if he could SEE THE CONTENTS INSIDE of a box. . . So. . . a MYSTERY BOX. We live in a simulation. That is all! Edit: Another FYI: CT scanning on sports cards have been going on for 40+ years. THIS IS NOT EVEN REMOTELY NEW! My uncle told me that he used to do it (his mom/my paternal grandmother was a radiologist) back when he was 9/10 in 1973, lmfao. For clarity/insight, that’s only 2 years after they were ubiquitously installed in hospitals/facilities. I would imagine that was largely in part due to the initial selling point/pitch of the machine being to “Give Humans X-Ray Vision Like Superman!”, haha. Crazy world we live in. Humans are unfortunately and fortunately bound/designed/compelled to find ways to make hard things easier. Taking the bad with the good essentially. I’d imagine there’s some measure that TPCI/Other TCGs could take to help outright prevent or at least heavily occlude the vision of these scans. Lead lined packs with composites of glass/crystal/bismuth, something like that for instance. Heck, even just maybe doing the Ditto thing might work? We need someone to scan a Pokémon Go pack with one inside to see if they can see the Ditto BENEATH the card. Maybe there’s interference in that case? I’m sure people would find some way around that too in the end but it’s a thought. Alternatively they could make two code type cards that go in the front and back and are made of lead/composites in addition to being in a lead/composite lined pack. That should probably do it I would think? Anywho, gotta “love” it!”

Ngl this is very disheartening to hear about. I don’t really ever open vintage packs (or even modern), but it sucks knowing that there’s no real guarantee for any older sealed product to be legit anymore because of this. Most likely will never be able to justify to myself opening the old sets that I grew up with moving forward, and it sucks to lose an experience like that because of scumbags using this technology

The thing is there never was past the boom. The motivation to scam people out of the possible money of vintage chase cards existed, whether it was reseals, weighing packs, or any other scummy practice. This is just another hurdle to ensure you buy from a reputable source imo.

the company that is offering this is trying to charge 65$ a pack and while it is possible to do with sealed boxes its not really feasible to do as a commercial service yet. so this will almost certainly be done with heavy vintage packs that have chase cards that are worth it but pretty much nothing else.

What will likely happen (if this even moves forward at all) is the cost/charge of "scanning" will be so high only people with copious amount of sealed product will likely be able to afford. What is in the packs DOES NOT CHANGE, you're essentially paying someone to tell you what is inside your pack and that is it. That in itself is just sad. It's so stupid 😂 It will stick around (lol) like Kurt's card splooge for a month or two and then either be debunked or forgotten about. In Japan they just use juice boxes or tissue boxes to scam people? 🤷‍♂

There is nothing practical about using a CT scanner to look in packs or sealed products. It would be time consuming, expensive and it uses radioactive material, something the average person might have a hard time getting their hands on let alone have the technical know how to operate it. Just turning the thing on would likely cost more in electricity than any profit you might be able to make, not to mention the years of education and government approval needed to own and operate this type of equipment.
