4:58 I saw a video 2 yrs ago from April Wilkerson and she put melamine edge banding for the drawers to slide like butta! Put them both the drawer bottom slide and the upper drawer slot. OR you can put Masonite. I hope this helps!!

That’s like a “joke” my Dad used to tell 50 years ago when I was a kid. He used to say….”what’s the difference between a duck. One’s webbed and one is.” I’d hear this stupid joke and kind of zone out. But, it’s in my head all these years later. Dave in Omaha dba Dave the Carpenter

I haven't seen all the comments yet, but a tip that I have seen on this type of drawer slide before is to use thumb tacks. About 4 on each side should do the trick. Just space them evenly and it should glide very smoothly.

Something to keep in mind: My father tried for 40 years to build drawers with no slides. While the drawers were mostly successful there was always a draw back. When you live in an area with evaporative cooling, or with wide range of humidity, the draws will always stick. He tried waxes, oils everything except larges amounts of lard (like wooden wagon wheels). The only draws he ever made that didn't stick when the wood swelled from humidity were so sloppy in the winter he felt ashamed like he did a bad job. Even with slides the swollen wood would bind the slides sometimes. So before you condemn a method try to realize, there is probably something about it that you don't know, some aspect that you have not considered, probably because you have not encountered it yet.

I have a cabinet with self closing ball bearing slides. It works great in all weather conditions. Well worth the investment! The savings of not using slides saves you money at the expense of inferior operation.
@zapa1pnt3 ай бұрын
Hi, Thomas. For drawers with wooden slides, for which you are concerned about pull out, install a block of wood, on the underside of the structure above the drawer (be it a shelf or drawer separator) It will keep the drawer from pulling too far out and falling. For furniture with a stick frame (like fine cabinetry), the stop would be put on the underside of the back of the drawer, to catch the face frame, under the front of the drawer. Of course, that would not work, for a drawer which pulls out from both sides. I hope I have not insulted you. I didn't hear you mention a way to stop, wooden slide drawers. 😁🖖✌

All drawers used to be without slides until they were invented to avoid the issues that wood on wood sliding has: binding. Or slop. (Or both in area with smbig seasonal humidity changes). Or making extra ways to keep drawer steady for full pull-out... Wax, silicone, low friction strips are ways to improve wood to wood sliding, but in a few years, you'll really appreciate good drawer slides!!😅

My thing on "what if I pull them all the way out" is, the way I like to clean things easier includes my wanting the option of doing so, or if I've lost something in a cluttered drawer, dumping the entire thing out, onto a sheet helps!

This is great. I want to build a pair of wide but not very deep (10" max) drawer chests that will sit on top of the fender wells of an enclosed trailer. Those drawers will hold tools and the idea is to reduce tongue weight, as I currently have all the tools up front. Problem is, I'm a noob at this and most everything I make ends up inaccurate at best, and sucking at worst.

If you go to any antique shop and find drawers that only use wood to wood you will find two things. I pile of saw dust where the two surfaces rub and the wooden slide will be worn away. Of course, not an issue if you don’t intend your work to become an antique.

That does not look like birch with the large lines in the wood and the color differences. It looks like pine. Birch has much finer lines due to it being much more dense and have thinner growing rings. Else it is splint wood is from the outside of the tree, which does not last as long.
