In an interview with Meet the Press, Preet Bharara, former U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York who prosecuted Viktor Bout, says “people of good faith can, in good faith, ask questions and be concerned about [the prisoner swap], even when we are very, very happy Brittney Griner is back in the U.S.”

Bouts still dangerous, for starters he’ll have favours to call in after protecting others names after capture, secondly he will still have contacts in the smuggling world, he’s a fast learner, and won’t take long to catch up. The only difference will be he’ll be working from Moscow and not travelling so much, putin will want him close.

It’s not about how dangerous he is now. Releasing him in a trade for someone who has virtually no geopolitical/national value is a horrible idea because it will embolden current/future Viktor Bouts to act evilly with the thought that they too might be exchanged by a mentally short-sighted US administration in a swap for a pothead athlete. They just need to ensure that their political backers hold such a figure in prison for such a trade.

Vladimir Putin was willing to trade Britney Griner and not even consider trading Paul Whelan because he knew it would divide American's even more. Putin has been successful against every American President, starting with George W Bush ! We need someone like Mitt Romney or Adam Kinzinger appointed to a new Homeland security post, which is all about Putin and Russia !

25 to life isn’t 7 years. He’d been in jail for 10 years of that 25 year sentence. I’m not sure where you are getting your information. Also, she had 9 years of a crime that she just committed because she had to have her hashish in a foreign country. He had 25 years for terrorism, weapon trafficking, and conspiracy to murder American citizens, if I remember correctly. Letting him go for her will end up killing Americans.

An arms dealer for a pot head. One commits murder and sells weapons to murders the other is a basketball player. oh and we are trading back to a country that is currently invading another country and has multiple sanctions on them. No big deal at all

@@gloriouspurpose_ She admitted she was guilty. Russian law stipulates a maximum of ten years. They usually give 5 years so she definitely got a harsh sentence but keep in mind tens of thousands are serving long drug sentences here in America too.
