Resin 3d printing is actually SUPER easy to process the pieces after prom flying to get ready to paint. One main tip that I can’t stress enough is to break your supports off -before- you cure it so that way you can simply pull off supports or use a dull old hobby knife to pick the small hard to reach supports. Also use disposable aluminum baking sheets to both have your 3d printer sitting in just in case of a very very rare spill as well as a good work area to break your supports off in and keep uncured prints in if you’re printing a bunch in a row so you can keep cure times consistent for builds

on the time and ease of things with 3d printing. setting up the STL file with supports is fairly easy and auto supports is getting better. also more people are releasing presupported models and its fairly easy to find different times for resin so it's even less fussing and wasted time. the main issue with resin printing right now is really the health issues and fumes as depending on the resin it can be quite smelly and the health effect are not know yet (feeling it's not great thought). So it require it's own space and potentially external venting in my experience (could just be the resins i'm using). other then that it's not super hard and can be quick as once you load the files you can just wonder off and do other stuff. Also one other down side is your back log will grow exponentially lol. and side note yes more props/cosplay as i'm actually looking into printing a plasma pistol for myself and babe in the big city is an amazingly directed movie.

The smell isn't that bad. My Mars 2 Pro has been running all day on my desk next to me and i don't detect a smell, unless i am taking the lid of or manipulating the miniatures for cleaning. Resin is elegoo water washable. Bonus the wife isn't far away either and she hasn't complained.

Love the content and an important subject. I was previously a CAD engineer in the automotive space. I started model making again through Covid and am considering setting up a shop to sell 4K resin printer upgrades sets (at least initially) for things I’ve found difficult to find. I was considering selling some STLs (to help generate interest) but for the bulk of items I plan would keep the STL and be the sole manufacturer. Keeping parts on a kind of rotation. The issues and opportunities with intellectual property associated to additive manufacturing are many and I guess is more closely aligned to ownership models in art and photography. Perhaps it is my bias, but I believe we have the onus as a consumer to consider the impacts of our consumption.

If you release an stl for free then I think it's not a problem if people sell it. People are selling the service to 3D print something. That itself comes with a bunch of skills needed as well as obviously the cost of the printer and the materials themselves. However yeah, if someone is selling an stl and you don't have permission to print it for selling, you're just not allowed to do it. Bear in mind as well, even if an stl is free, doesn't mean you have permission to print commercially. Free doesn't mean it doesn't come with a license. Quite often something released for free is still only useable for personal use, not commercial. So basically ignore my first paragraph, sometimes, depending on how the person has chosen to license it's usage.

The unlock code is a good idea. I often think that a review site, like a yelp for 3d printers, would be a good idea. Crooks and bad experiences could be flagged and hopefully those resellers would be pushed out. I do believe it behooves us printer users to ensure that we "take care of" the designers and to not allow abusers to profit. I love 3d printing and the flexibility it provides. GW does a great job with their models but I worry that they're taking advantage of their position to profiteer with their prices. Companies should be allowed to make money but, honestly,.I also think their pricing is the biggest contributor to the 3d printing problems. People want to play the game and a printer is the only way it is possible for many. Tough questions but if the great designers out there can charge $4 for a model then why can't a huge company provide a print file for even 5 or 6 en mass. Even in addition to their plastic models. People need affordable options to make the game more accessible for casual players. 40k is in danger of becoming too "elite". It will always have their faithful followers but what about the everyday gamer? Thats my take. I'm glad to have a more affordable option. Until GW buys all the printer makers and outlaws them altogether anyway: )

It's not bad. Get a magnetic build plate. No putty knife. Clean your supports right after it finishes printing. Much easier. I think if you buy STL files from places like my mini factory and others like it the artist usually has a Patreon or contract info so you can get it from them directly if you wanted. Trash bags, gloves a small container and 99% isopropyl alcohol and disposable scratch free clothes is all you need to print. I print on the patio. Over night. In the summer or spring. Temps has to be above 77F ish. No fumes

I think generating a unique QR code for merchants to display in their listings that links back to the designers website and a database showing what that merchant is permitted to sell could do the trick for conscientious buyers. Bit of work for the creators but would make it easy for the community to know they're putting the money in the right place, as well as being able to shame shady sellers.

The thing about selling STL files is that if you use a service like cults3d you have documentation of the upload date and can claim theft quite easily. You're always going to get people trying to scalp your files but the best defense is to sell the files much cheaper. I know that the days of work you put into the modeling process has to be compensated but once it's on the service it becomes passive income that really scales up quickly over time. 99¢ a model doesn't sound like much but for that little many people won't think twice about just buying it out of curiosity.

Until GW sells a biotitan that looks like an uncircumcised dong then I'm going to continue 3d printing proxies and upgrades. If GW is losing profits to the 3d printing community then they really need to reevaluate their business model. Their games are just as egregiously pay to win as genshin impact and candy crush. They could release 3d models specifically to market to 3d printers which has the capability to increase their profits by orders of magnitude by removing manufacturing costs.

Well darn, I'm about to bore you and write a novel. I'll first say I follow you not because of the "Warhammer" theme and such you do. I don't play the game, mostly because I've never met anyone who plays it. I follow you for the tips and tricks on painting and such. I mean I like Warhammer models but I like them for the same reason you done the mantis guy. I just like how they look and enjoy building/painting stuff. Guess now to my point. I am planning on getting a 3d printer very soon. I want one so that I can print my own minis or items to build and paint. I support a few patreons and Kickstarters to get items I like. For someone like me a 3d printer seems like something I could really use and enjoy. Due to that I try to pay a lot of attention to some of the things you said you struggle with keeping up with. Someone like you seems more interested in building your army to play. Yes you enjoy all the painting and such but I think your primary goal is playing the game. You are just one of the ones that want your army to look outstanding. The random and odd things don't seem to be as important, and that's ok. I can see that a 3d printer isn't something that would really bring more enjoyment to you. It possibly could though. There is something that you talked about that I could see you potentially enjoying and wanting to get into it though. I would suggest thinking about the things like the guitar you mentioned and cosplay things. They stuff you can't find you could design yourself and then print it. That would cause you to have to learn/do more on 3d design but it might be fun also. After learning a bit then you should be able to even implement it into what you really like doing. Have a Warhammer figure that you think would look cooler if his arms were positioned differently or with a different weapon? Well design it yourself and make it happen. Want to put your own face on a space marine? Well design the head and do it. 3d printing isn't limited to only stls you can find. It's only limited to how much effort you want to put into it. You might imagine more mantis figures and wish you could make a whole little story with them. Design, or find, what you like and make it happen if you want. Not interested in the random things then don't worry about it. I get not wanting to buy prints that were "stolen" from others but honestly there's nothing you can do to fix it. Especially if it's just something random you do. Yes, try to do right when you can but don't go overboard if it hurts you enjoying yourself.

I should have talked about it in the video, I have actually done lots of digital designing. When I was in school I studied theater stage design and architecture. I have used 3d modeling software like SketchUp, AutoCAD, Vectorworks, and blender.

@@EonsOfBattle you did mention it, didn't mean to imply you know nothing about it. Guess my point was that you might want to look at it and think about it in a different way. Sorry if I sounded like an ass. Swear I didn't mean to. I have some slight brain damage due to a house fire and hitting a sidewalk when I jumped out of the window that night. I have a tendency to say exactly what I'm thinking without actually putting the words in an appropriate manner. I've had to relearn everything in my hobbies involving all sorts of model kits. I first started almost 40 years ago but now only have the knowledge and skill I've learned in the last couple of years. And I suck at that, I just enjoy trying. Again, I'm sorry if I came across as critical or insultive. Was never my intention. I kinda forget to keep my mouth shut sometimes.
