As an automotive design engineer, I am impressed at how well the wrecker does and it would have been a really fun project to work on. But it also showcases how many aspects of a design get overlooked. Jefe's Bronco is an awesome vehicle, but it has a $100 million worth of engineering that went into it and 2-3 year of development from people who know what to really look out for. The wrecker.... done on a budget and is still awesome... My hats off to Matt and his team on doing a pretty good job with limited resources.

Wow you guys make the best videos on how to be a professional towing company, top-notch, while also doing a learning class on how you should absolutely positively never ever leave your shop unprepared for the worst, while always carrying a small toolbox full of tools with the bare minimum of supplies, so much stuff like this can happen so that you don’t die out in the desert. However, about 40% of the time you wind up doing a show like this where you forget to bring simple common equipment that every tow truck should have with them at all times especially if you come there in a trailer L O L. You do awesome videos on what could go wrong very quickly very easily and how to stay calm while fixing it, dealing with it, dealing with your company there, all without dying in the desert, which is very easily done in a situation like yours. More people should praise how mentally stable you are in dangerous situations like this when everything goes wrong except your brain. You keep it together under a very stressful situation, which is very manly of you to do. It shows leadership, it shows how smart you are and keeping it together, keeping your crew together so nobody gets hurt or left behind or dies in the desert or in any other situation that you got yourself stuck in because somebody forgot to put a roll of duct tape, a combination wrench, extra nuts and bolts or other every day items, etc. etc. thank you for showing the pros and cons of a dangerous business that you do and how to be prepared and how to handle such life threatening situations while coming home every night safely. For me, I am very proud to watch these videos because I learn something every single time I watch these. I learned from all the good points as well as all the bad points. You showed it all so people like me could learn so much more so if something happens to me or to someone else, I/we know how to handle the situation because of smart people like you showing me and others how to survive and fix things when you are on your own in a dangerous area. Keep up the good work and thank you sir !!

Matt, the heavy wrecker is, and always will be, a work in progress. It's a totally scratch-built R&D, prototype and first production model, all in one unit. It's being simultaneously field tested and put into hard service. Yet it has performed incredibly well in every situation that it was designed for. With its monster tires and awesome power, it absolutely crushes the landscape. With rear-steer, it manages to snake up narrow, complex and technically challenging canyons. I have loved every specialty vehicle you have produced, but the Heavy Wrecker is my favorite. Don't ever get discouraged by the learning curve, just keep on perfecting it.

Very nice to see Eric again. That was a pretty tough recovery all round. You might have to go to parts for like a ten ton truck, for the driveline. Those big wheels and tires need a much heavier driveline system. The torque on it must be huge. Ed's back mining again? Wow, you go Ed. Thanks for the video.

Yeah I don’t think he has quite enough beef in the drivetrain. Might look into like an Eaton 10 speed or something. Going to that stuff will probably require a repower tho since most of the heavy stuff is designed around a diesel engine.

JUMP SEATS: Hey Mat why not build a couple jump seats for off road with seat belts or harness. They would fit on the left and right side behind the rear window off the forward structural tubing. They could be made to swing out and lock into place on the occasions they are needed. When not in use they would swing tight to the heavy tubing behind the rear window glass and lock into place. It would increase safety and remove any chance an employee could fall off in front of those rear wheels!

Look at it this way - it was a massive build with many aspects you had to figure out/make up as you went along. After many years, I now consider any build to be "the latest draft" as I'm learning all the time and part of that learning is making the mistakes that need to be improved the next time. It's a big build, with so much more room for 'learning experiences' to be made and learned from 👍😎

One of the many challenges of a one-of-a-kind vehicle is that the total combination of parts hasn't been tried and proven under load until they are. The weakest links will break and be upgraded until things settle out. Engineering every component and knowing the various stresses and loads each will need to handle befuddles the largest car companies with millions of dollars in design software and teams of engineers even for a fairly static and predictable set of use cases. This poor wrecker never knows where Matt and team will take it next nor what challenge it will face. The requirements for the build are literally redefined on every job.
