I guess for context regarding Conner's submission: I have never once in my life spent more than $35 for any daily carry knife, having stuck with whatever CRKT or Kershaw was readily available. You've spent over $300 on how many knives now? That's literally 10x price, for what is essentially the same product (something that cuts, and is a tool). It all comes down to what makes you happy, so long as you can responsibly afford it. Conner's submission seems "crazy" to some, but your personal collection seems crazy to me...... and me simply carrying an EDC knife seems crazy to others. :)

"It's art. It's pocket art." Exactly. And pocket art is a part of human behavior so old that it predates all of our written records. Many prehistoric human tribes were nomadic, and when your entire community periodically has to pack up and travel for weeks or months, you can't carry statues or paintings with you. This is why many of the oldest human artifacts are pocket-size carvings of bone, wood, or stone. It was the only kind of art that nomads could take with them, so that's what they made.

Guilty also of buying things I don't need but still have practical uses or at a minimum can be fun or at least defeat boredom. Spending that kind of crazy money is simply about showing off lots of disposable income, or large amounts of debt and saying to people "look how successful I am I can wipe my ass with thousands of dollars! Do you think I am cool now?" or one upping your buddies, or believe this is going to gain them internet clout and make people talk about them... Another unintended consequence of the social media" like me" culture.. Doing this doesn't make someone a bad person just an out of touch and probably pretty insecure and maybe trying to compensate..? I don't know. But I do know that there are a lot of people around the world who don't even have access to clean drinking water and people who are not eating a lot of days and 5 grand donated to the right non profit organization could go along way towards drilling a simple hand pumped well for a village or putting food in the mouths of people who are literally starving or getting basic antibiotics to people who are watching their children die from infections that could be treated with a round of antibiotics.... I imagine it might bring you more personal fulfillment knowing that you may have allowed someone to keep their kids from waking up with hunger pains....if u got money to burn feed a kid.

I respect the right for you to own what you wish but I don’t think it’s judgement for me to explain that spending $1800 dollars on a copper bead is an inherently bad investment. I guess if you have that kind of money to blow and admire it that much to be satisfied, good for you but I would advise anyone who has doubts not to buy such a thing. Your literally investing $1800 into something with no functional use and a material value of $0.15 in copper. Art in general is only valuable if there is a market for such a thing. The difference is I own a bit of silver, less than $1800. Even if the world went to crap tomorrow, the silver material in itself would still hold some inherent value on the basis of how rare it is besides looking cool. Copper is a highly accessible material and if I had the time, I assure you, I could actually replicate almost the exact same thing for far far less money. I guess assuming that their is not SHTF scenario, art holds some value but it might be difficult to find someone willing to pay that much money to buy it from you if you change your mind which means you might be stuck with it. I spend a lot of money on things that have a functional use and some of those things are even a bit overpriced I know but they still hold a lot of their value to me as something that is useful. I would personally definitely regret buying something that is 12,000 times more expensive than the material that it is made out of and has literally no use. I don’t mean to judge but I cannot in good conscience stand by and say it’s a perfectly intelligent decision for people who may need that money for more important things. I have seen some people fall prey to pretty worthless purchases and it’s heartbreaking how that can end with divorce and financial struggles for something that is essentially a vanity item. There will be some very wealthy people who can justify this to themselves as chump change but most of us cannot.
