HOH/deaf (gradual hearing loss) fan here! i was so exited to see the kid (his names oliver iirc) and fizz sigh in this ep! i can absolutely make out the ASL! the very direct translation would be like: 'Fizzaroli (a sign name with it being the sign for clown done with a F hand shape) i very big admirer to look up to person (admire person is used in place of fan in asl)' from oliver, then Fizz, who notably signs more like a interpreter or performer,(tho personally i love the partially deaf fizz hc) responds 'come over' olivers next bit is 'clown same as you' and in the context clearly means he wants to be like fizz,as he clearly isnt there yet. as well as the expression work helping this. Fizz then is 'If want can do' the use of the teams already great expression work is super helpful here as expressions are super important to sign! from the way olivers micro expressions change, even if just unintentionally with movement, to fizzs posture (again, possibly unintentional) when encouraging the younger imp! I apologize if any of this is stuff you mention or anything, i paused to type this as soon as you asked abt hoh/deaf viewers takes on the scene! A little detail I like with something this episode introduces more. Mammon is fussy about Fizz's weight. To my knowledge, real life roosters tend to wait and make sure all their hens eat first. When Ozzie and Fizz are having breakfast in the previous episode, Ozz doesn't really eat at all. But he sets his plate down once he sees Fizz eat. Ozz probably is just trying to make sure Fizz is eating well and not starving himself. It could just be a wild coincidence, I know. But I still think its cute Ozz is making sure he's eating.

I think the thing I'm most impressed with, story wise, with this episode is that the writers didn't make the Klown Twins cheaters; It would have been very easy to write them using dirty tactics to get ahead in the competition, but instead they were head-to-head with Fizz more or less on their own merits as performers. Their biggest sin in this episode is being bitchy.
@dominiqueknight67074 ай бұрын
To me their biggest sin was not doing clown stuff in their performance! We see them do more performance-based comedy in Tom Cardy's song, but during their finale number its more of a pop dance hit (getting kinda KDA vibes? in a good way!) Which ATE, don't get me wrong. But agreed, they're mean as hell but they're honest.
@kemi_smith4 ай бұрын
@dominiqueknight6707 To be fair, the clowns just seem to be Greed's version of entertainers/celebrities in general. Fizz doesn’t really do clown stuff during his quitting song, and in the flashback, Mammon's set-up seems like that of a rockstar. Maybe it wasn’t like that *before* . Ozzie says that Mammon doesn’t even do clown shit anymore, possibly implying that Mammon has made the accepted definition of what a clown is in Greed so broad for the sake of commercialization.
@DetectiveDorian4 ай бұрын
@@dominiqueknight6707 Well, that's kind of the point. According to Ozzie, Mammon "doesn't do clown shit" anymore, either. They want to earn Mammon's favor and take Fizz's place as the faces of his brand, so they're not being clowns; They're being marketable.

Fizz's sign absolutely reads clearly to me as ASL and specifically the sort of basic ASL performers get taught for exactly this sort of interaction. Like he's probably not fluent but knows enough to recognise the basics and can read some of what's being said to him. Edit to add: in sign terms he's basically enunciating really heavily, especially in contrast with how the kid is signing (and yeah, I don't sign in ASL so can't confirm if the kids sign lines up) which is way more fluent and really expressing the excitement the kid is feeling. If I had to guess either someone has had this training, or they've watched videos of Mall Santa's doing this

48:20 On the sign language, as someone who uses ASL (had really bad selective mutism during childhood). It is very legible, and seems correct. The sign for "Fizzarolli" seems to be a combination of the letter "F" and the sign for "clown", which makes sense. Very cute. It doesn't seem to be entirely ASL, though. But it's all clear enough that you can tell what it all means if you know ASL. It's surprising how clear the signing seems to be, too, given how hard hands are just still, much less in action with them being the main focus. You made a good point with how Fizz signs, it seems encouraging/excited. It's so cool how tone and stuff can carry over, and be picked up on by even people who don't know sign. Props to the animators that worked on that shot.

(dont comment very often so give me grace please) I myself am not Deaf, but ive been taking ASL courses for about a year, and will for the next 3 minimum. I can't guarantee that the sign language here feels fluent but it definitely is readable for the most part. The only thing i can see causing issues would be the stylization of the characters having 4 fingers instead of 5. I'll also say with emphasizing and such within ASL, it usually comes across with expression and the space you use when signing. When i first started learning, my ASL teacher (Deaf) made sure to beat into our brains that a HUGE amount of sign language comes across in expression (and also context). (Bonus: When Fizz says "You can do anything you want to do", he uses a sign 'slang' i beleive is called 'true biz'. Which here is equivalent to saying he's sincere.)

Bee and Ozzie want the desire for the thing, just trying to get wasted and coersion don't work, because it's the form of the thing, but not the spirit of the thing. Mammon is greed. Desperately wanting what he's selling and being willing to pay the price, whatever it is would probably feed his sin so much better than being stuck in a shitty contract. He wants somebody who'll throw themself into the meat grinder to get what they want, to give him what he wants.

See, the thing is, Mammon and Asmodeus' confrontation reads like 'siblings fighting upstairs trying not to alert mom'. And we know the sins have a somewhat sibling like relationship, confirmed by Beelzebub. We also haven't seen the Sins true forms for anything other than intimidation before. And they're really really old (they probably have an idea who is stronger than the other, and what warrants a confrontation). I don't think a situation like this warrants a full on fight and again, they use these forms currently just as a show of power.

They also come from different parts of Italy, Arlecchino (who, btw, is my favorite of them) and Pantalone are in Venezia, but for example Naples also has one of them, Pulcinella. I'm very happy I read you comment!! Maschere, Commedia dell'arte and such aren't very appreciated here, I remember feeling alone because nobody in my class cared about them or the writers who used them, like Goldoni, a lot of people also don't even enjoy Carnevale which is a festivity tied with Maschere. In my opinion you can always go hunting for something nice to say about people and its not always easy to find something nice to say, but it doesn't mean the nice thing you find isn't legitimate. Especially if the person cares for you or loves you then they'll find something legitimate to say to you, and if you love them back you should try to believe them.

And so, finally, Mammon has made his appearance. His name is Hebrew and literally means “money” or “wealth”. As such, he is the go-to representation for the Sin of Greed (which, btw, doesn’t have to be exclusively for money; it can be for any sort of material wealth, really). In fact, he represents both wealth and money in the New Testament where it is said that one “cannot serve God and mammon” (Matthew 6:24) at the same time. He’s usually depicted either as a tall man holding bags of money or a tall noble human with golden hair wearing fine clothes. So this show certainly took a lot of creative liberty with his design (and tbh, I love it). Lastly, the Dictionnaire Infernal lists him as a member of the Order of the Fly, a group of high ranking demons hand-picked by Beelzebub to help him run Hell, as the Ambassador to England as well as Grand Treasurer.

let's face it, making mammon ';jsut, like, some tall dude' wouldn't be very fun especially since he's meant to be one of the rulers of hell and not a random douchebag

2:23:00 - Who knows if Mammon straight up hits Fizz, but he would be the type to pull or throw him violently to wherever he wants him to be, which to me is still physical abuse.

There's another series on KZbin that features a (sparsely appearing, but still relevant) character who uses sign language. The series is called No Evil from Betsy Lee. It might be worth checking that out just to see how her team did it.

Once you're done with Season 2 of Helluva Boss, I highly recommend checking out Murder Drones. It's only 8 episodes, with the series finale dropping this month. The show manages to be incredibly dark / mysterious and hilarious at the same time, you'll love it. Also, 3 hours???? Should we call a doctor?

It's funny that we have a 3\1 ratio on sweatheart\asshole scale among the Major Sins. It woud be funny to try and guess the final score. My take is 4:3, with Belphegor being a complete sweatheart.

Amazing video, love the length. Also, love your content as someone very ADHD adjacent coming from country where it very much isn't a thing. Seeing more or less socially adjusted people who mention that they struggled with stuff I know personally encourages me a lot. So maybe you didn't help me out of dark place but I am very grateful for any and all adhd posting :)

Fat = Greed is a very old trope going back centuries because only the wealthy could afford to get fat. Today most people can afford to eat, or in some cases it's been flipped on its head because the less expensive food is now more fattening. Still, it's not like Mammon is sporting a massive gut, it's more about how large and wide he is and how that adds to his intimidation. I'm trying to remember if his normal form is even taller than Oz usually is, and his outfit does also play into that with how poofy it is.

My man we are here watching your reactions for 2 to 3 hours. I haven't forgot your video of the songs in hazbin hotel that was like 5h? It was a lot! We love you and your work, yes it is very entretaning and yes it always brings me a smile ❤

2:52 i feel like Dragula would sort of fit that description. They're in no way clowns and their drag itself is breathtaking, its just the level of drag and camp the artists on the show present is just WAYY too high to be just reffered to as regular drag queens. And the way they entertain the audience is non traditional in terms of typical drag performances, and i personally can see them as being similar to clowns as entertainers, rather than beig 'fishy'. The drag on that show makes Rupauls Drag Race look like dress to impress 💀

2:52:27 with Hazbin hotel i get the criticism, but I don't think it's there in helluva boss. For what little we have seen with Asmodeus's sex workers in his club, they are actually treated very well. Also, knowing the respect asmodeus has for lust as a concept, I very much doubt that he would be forcing anything upon his employees. Which is in contrast with Valentino and supports the whole theory that Valentino wants to be like asmodeus but fails as a conceptual level. So yeah, I'm honestly kind of proud of that rappresentation, mostly thanks to Ozz

I learnt sign language for a year and I’m pretty rusty now but there are definitely a lot of words I recognize so I’m willing to bet the rest of it is accurate Also it’s speculated that horns are how imps hear because they don’t have ears which is why both the kid and Fizz use sign language which is cool
@gearguts72594 ай бұрын
Afaik is not about hearing with the horns itself but that the horns are probably near the earhole, since Imps resemble reptiles the most. Which means that chippage in the horn from damage probably leads to ear issues too, kinda how having ear problems can mess with other aspects of your body like balance or headaches.

honestly I didn't read mammon as "not understanding" fizz criticizing him, but as just "not caring" - fizz can criticize the system all he wants *as long* as he still uses that system to spread that message (that is, he keeps performing for mammon); there's probably some analogies about various media industries in there but who knows, it's just a silly cartoon
@abbysol58124 ай бұрын
if you want to see a little more on translating sign language to animation, there was a short documentary about an episode of Bluey called Turtle Boy where characters sign in Auslan (Australian sign language) they partnered with an organisation called Deaf Connect to make sure it was accurate and legible and even did some shorts to help encourage younger Australians to learn a little bit of Auslan as well.

One thing thats a little disappointing is how straight the play the sin of greed. All of the other sins we've seen so far have a slight subversion to how the sin is played. Gluttony/Bee advocates for temperence when it comes to blitz, Ozzie is in love, Lucifer kinda hates himself and has low self-esteem. Mammon is just straight up greedy (which i guess lines up with him being the online fully villainous one.)
