Hello again, Seven. Construction and engineering for your specific unit will most likely be a slow process, but don't get discouraged. You'll find the right materials and ways to satisfy your needs and likes. I have followed you since the beginning of your channel and I have faith in your decisions by now. Your electrical system is a marvel compared to others I have seen and you've aced that. That would be a nightmare for me. We each have our fortes. Thanks for giving us updates because we are interested and hoping you are also enjoying your time every day. Also, I believe building with the metal framing gives it's own difficulties as opposed to wood, so there is another challenge. You're doing great and learning much as well. Thanks again and enjoy every day and every challenge. Have a great day.

awww thx for the kind words. I do realize my skill level in the last 5 years and moved forward in leaps and bounds. I still struggle with paralysis by analysis when tackling new skills and overall, I simply don't enjoy "building" but absolutely love the design and engineering of a conversion build. thx for subscribing, your comment and words of encouragement. much appreciated!

you know what they say: "Measure twice, cut twice, measure again, cut some more, swear, throw it all away, drive to the hardware store, buy more wood, measure twice again..." etc, etc,

I repurposed old cabinets found on fb market for super cheap put shelving between. I built a pantry and purchased a cabinet door and used a storm door latch with spring hinges. stays locked and keeps everything where it should be. Your plywood is 3 ply and is not stable enough for doors. You can purchase 6 or 7 ply to make tables and doors but you must seal it on all sides immediately to prevent warping. I made a small lagune table with drop leaf that has worked well for me. Many lumber stores sell partial sheets of plywood. Menards has the best selection.

furniture grade plywood can be purchased from either box store. Also need to use at least 1/2 or 5/8 inch plywood for shelves and sides and probably even as thick as 3/4 for the doors. No plywood is perfectly flat so you may still experience a little warping on a door that large.

Ive been doing more research and believe you hit nail on the head; I'm planning a rebuild with thicker material and moving to cabinet grade hardwoods

It looks like 1/2 plywood - so this might not work. Paint the other side. When painting longer or larger pieces of wood - and if you only paint one side - the moisture will cause it to warp - you have to paint both sides. not sure if it will hep with plywood however - as that should prevent it - but give it a try.

I am a fan of shaker style cabinet doors, they are easy to make and you can use thinner plywood for the center part as the thicker wood as a frame provides the strength and rigidity. I saw one person that actually used a frosted plexi as a panel so the led strip inside could give a bit of ambient lighting as well.

my step van build used that type of doors and I'm thinking of going that route again

I think mini rollup doors for cabinets would be great for RV's/campers as long as it holds up to frequent use. I don't know what they are called, but it's similar to how some shop/garage doors roll up or shades/curtains for windows. I may try to build some for my stepvan conversion, because I don't know if they sell small thin lightweight ones that can easily be mounted to cabinets.. It would be a tricky thing to build and engineer on my own but it would be worth figuring out. Good luck with your projects and still be very proud of yourself you can build your own stuff!! 👍

If you desire something smooth and suitable for painting then maybe consider trying hardboard. (Think pegboard without holes.) Instead of hinges on doors make doors into sliders in grooves. Of course the whole design of the cabinet may change. Also, for corner and edge construction you might consider angle aluminum available in various widths. Can be easily drilled and attached using screws or pop rivets. It can add a remarkable amount of strength in a light weight material.

That's called Melamine in my area of the world. It will work fine and look really good when painted. It will need to be painted on all sides however, the moisture can play a number on it if left exposed to the elements.

Once the lower cabinets are in place there could be a Support built for the upper cabinet on the pass side. Like a spindle cut to fit. As long as you are mouse resistant 🐀🧀

Instead of using doors on the cabinets (with plywood warping all over the place!), why not use some cargo netting? Just one piece as wide & tall as the cabinet is, attached to the top & bottom of it, with S hooks & eyelets. Easy to take down from the top, get what you need inside, hook the top two back up & you're good to go! Moisture (& lack thereof in drier climates) will never a problem with elastic netting compared to wood which swells & contracts, twists & bows. /Jus' Sayin! 🤷

Hello longtime sub haven’t watched in a while! Seems like every time I tune in you’re spinning your wheels with one problem or another! What happened last time I watched you had a step van you were driving! And it seemed like a project never finished?? I have one question what’s the scope and timetable of this project??? good luck in your new venture!

I have had good luck with the 3/4 Sumauma plywood from Lowe's with edge banding, I think it is better than thier hardwood plytanium stuff. Also look at the edge glued panels from Lowe's, fairly inexpensive and a good finish product. Use magnetic hardware latches on your doors to keep them straight. Good luck!

Look for furniture grade plywood - what you used is more for roofing underlayment.

There was that one guy you did a tour of his van that used baskets inside of open-faced cabinets. That was easily the best van tour you have done. You might try that method. Lol

You painted one side? of course it warped. seal all sides of the wood. Your microwave ventilation plan won't work! buy a front vented microwave designed for building in or risk a fire! Counter top microwaves usually need a 6 inch gap all around

It's sorry to see you waste materials not being able to do anything, and learn how to do it. It has been going on for several years now. Living in such a dumpster will not have a positive effect on your mental health. Why don't you just buy a ready-made motorhome or ask for paid help?
