Hi Amelia! Great honest review and glad to see you are still enjoying it. We’ve had our 2017 335d Touring for over 4 years. IMO the 335d x-drive gives you an aura of invincibility in all weather and just ticks so many boxes in its Touring guise. The only thing it can’t do it wade water like an SUV Over those 4 years it’s done all the daily duties asked of it ranging from the nursery runs / supermarket runs / tip runs / airport runs / light off roading / towing / UK track days / Santa pod / trips all over Europe / hard Nurburgring laps. Like many I’ve toyed with the idea of chopping it in for performance wagons such as Alpina Tourings / RS6 but in all honesty the 335d for the price point and fuel economy is unmatched The 335d Touring just floats around under the radar, nobody bats an eye lid. It’s just another boring 3 series to many. I’ve had mine tuned by Unicorn Developments, it’s done almost 60k miles on the tune and it completely transforms the car. If you think the stock car is competent, wait till you remap it! I remember driving back to the UK one evening and was in a hurry to get to catch my euro tunnel train on time. A UK registered Ferrari Lusso who was more than happy to sit behind me the entire way. Regrettably my speedo stopped at 160 and my heads up display stopped at 162. The grin on the Ferrari drivers face said it all. Ricky @ Unicorn Developments leaves all of the cars safety parameters untouched. A word of advice would be to scrap the BMW’s factory recommended oil service intervals and to change oil and oil filter at least every 6-7k miles. Mine is nearly at 100k miles now, I think it’ll give me a few more years service at which point the last production (March/ April/ May 2024) M340d Tourings LCI’s may be at a more sensible price point. I need to update my PistonHeads thread soon ! 335d Perfect Daily :D Take care.

I think the perception of speed and performance is all relative and it depends what you're using as a yardstick. I have an ancient Fiat Panda with 45 hp to use for short journeys, so when I get in my stock 330d touring it feels like the fastest car in the world. It helps me appreciate what I have anyway.

I have the 640d same engine, the 335 is a little quicker due to weight and all drive. The 640d is a great all rounder, but I think what you're describing is maybe you just get used to it? The novelty quickly wears off when I got it I thought it was a beast with the 300 odd horsepower, and sport mode transformed it, but I quickly got used to it and you start to perceive the car differently, I didn't routinely drive in sport but I found it changed up through the gears too quickly, and rather than a roaring engine more of a screach. Ofg course you can manually use the paddle to change gear but you realise this car isn't a sports car it's a GT for a reason. It's a good rapid all rounder but best left in comfort, I found eco pretty much a waste of time. So I've a hankering for more power, V8, M6? However, the 640d is a dependable amazing all rounder, and mpg, but just lacks that thrill factor..

I've owned a 320d e92 for a few years now and other various cars after it but coming back to it, nothing else holds the road or puts down torque quite like the BMW and the steering is perfect. The slight lag is definitely something noticeable but nothing as bad as the new fords and VWs I've driven. The 2021 Polo felt unsafe on the motorway compared to 2008 e92 BMW

Tested 330d and 335d is a completely different beast. Xdrive comes into its own during torrential downpours, watching other vehicles driving slower whilst driving like it’s a sunny day outside says it all, slightest bit of ice or snow and my old tuned e9x 35d would try to kill you, it was really poor in such conditions in terms of not being able to drive it how it should be driven. A top spec mint condition and full or “over full” serviced f31 35d really is all the car you need on English roads if you have kids and a dog lol…

Hi, I've just got a 2018 330d M sport . Black with those 19" wheels. Heated seats and steering wheel!! One thing for your car, much more than a remamp, is the BMW adaptive suspension. I would say that's what you're missing.
@rimmerd99083 ай бұрын
I've had my 2017 335d Touring for a year and a half. I had a stage one remap and a stage 2 ZF gearbox map (the sweet spot) at Avon tuning Bristol just after I bought it as they have a four wheel drive rolling road (great service as well). A rarity it would seem. . I drive like a granny most of the time and only use the power of this remarkable vehicle pulling away from the lights or overtaking (and some fun moments as this is a seriously fast car as you know). The biggest difference I noticed was the ZF gearbox map. Much more controlled gear changes. The stage one map made the car more forceful during acceleration which despite the relatively small jump from 313bhp to my recorded 365bhp was super noticeable. Super fast car with decent handling. I disagree with the seat comfort. I drive long distances for work and they are the most comfortable seats.
@jackwatson5400Ай бұрын
Xhp stage 3 gearbox tune sharpens up the changes and makes it feel so much quicker even without a remap And if your going stage 1 on the engine get the intercooler upgraded and slap a performance panel filter in it and remove the swirl flaps, 400hp and 750 to 800nm of torque can be achieved

I own and daily a 2017 (67) reg 335D saloon. Bought for £17,300 in December 2022 at 59,000 miles. Quite a deal back then as the next cheapest one advertised in the whole country was around £19,500. I do a lot of miles, around 2,000 miles a month and find it to be overall the best "happy medium" between efficiency and performance. It's been well looked after so far including 1 minor oil service, 2 full services, 1 major service, 1 gearbox transmission fluid change and I have it booked in for a walnut blast and transfer case fluid change in about 2 weeks time. It came with business navigation with the 6.5 inch screen which I upgraded to the 8.8 inch screen, and also changed the BMW LA400 style 18 inch alloys to the 19 inch 442M alloys, I got rid of the runflats and now run normal summer tyres and it drives so much better. For a large saloon car that does 0-60 in under 5 seconds, has all wheel drive and still returns around 30-35MPG in town and 45-60MPG on motorways you really can't ask for much more.

@Shadowfire-n9f Mixture of places. Father works for a motor parts company, so I can get good quality parts at almost cost price (Bosch, Brembo etc). Once I got a dad's mate to fit the parts. One time had it done at a BMW indie in Sussex and the last oil and filter change I did myself - the last service I have only just done a week or so ago I did myself - cabin filter, air filter, oil filter and oil change. I can't replace the diesel filter as I don't have a jack or axle stands and my drive is sloped... but it's booked in for a walnut blast, transfer case service and differential service in the next 2 weeks and they will replace the diesel fuel filter for me. I got all of the filters (Bosch branded)... diesel fuel filter, oil filter, cabin/microfilter and air filter for about £70.
@thefiestaguy88312 ай бұрын
@Shadowfire-n9f I did mine at about 85k or so. I would suggest doing it every 30k-40k miles, i'll probably end up doing mine again in the next 6-12 months at around 115-120k.
@thefiestaguy88312 ай бұрын
@Shadowfire-n9f Similar to a gearbox or oil service - the fluid in the transfer case (which controls the power output to each wheel individually) is drained, and replaced with fresh fluid. BMW officially don't state it needs to be done, but then they don't state you ever need to do a walnut blast or a gearbox service - both of which are very recommended. BMW also state 18,000-20,000 miles between oil changes which is utter rubbish - if you want your timing chain to last (N47 and N57 engine like mine) the best thing you can do for it is regular oil changes, every 6,000 miles or so. I do usually 6-7k before changing oil filter and oil and I use BMW recommended Castrol Edge 5W-30 LL04 spec oil.... You can use cheaper oils but many people have found it causes performance issues or engine knocking, and I don't cheap out.
@thefiestaguy88312 ай бұрын
@Shadowfire-n9f Essentially they fire ground walnut shells into the intake valves - which removes the (often thick) layer of carbon build up, especially on high mileage vehicles or vehicles used on shorter frequent "stop start" journeys, both of which I have. Not a cheap service since it requires removal of the intake manifold, and on my 6 cylinder 3 litre it's costing me £499 (estimated 6 hours work), and that quote is on the cheaper side as I was quoted £720 by another garage and then £664 by the BMW indie in Sussex I use a lot, their prices are higher purely due to their hourly rate being higher at £99 per hour PLUS VAT (total cost of £119.98 per hour). A walnut blast in theory restores some lost performance, and makes the car slightly more efficient since it's using less fuel as the valves aren't all clogged up with carbon.

Dont regret that decision but am unimpresssed with the LED lights. The bi-xenons you have arr much, much better, particularly on low beam and do wish we had those. Honestly I do NOT like a lot of estate cars because the rear changes so much and some have a really ugly side profile but this is a beauty! I hated the E91 estate and had an E46 but not by choice, it was pretty. Only an RS4/6 of literally every generation they do an estate of, I loved. New M3 touring is to die for but I don't think there's many good colours I'd happily own one of these but I bought a saloon E60 530i. Terrible on fuel but amazing looks, boot space is great and I'm 6'5 mostly legs so a 3 series, no one can sit behind me without my sacrificing my comfort Even the 5 isn't big enough for anyone taller than 5'8 so I need an X5. That 330ci you got, is it a coupe? Got the exact same engine, my cars heavier but it pulls well and is easy to do self maintenance on it. After your review I'd still have one but for the price I'd rather add on more £ for a big suv I can carry people in behind me (rent cars for road trips to be fair) or I'd get an older plate C63 saloon or B7 RS4 avant as my Van is my daily so I want an exciting weekend car

300 hp on English roads and you think it needs a remap? I have a 2010 330D Coupe and I find the performance on it pretty pointless. Plant your foot down and within like 3 seconds it's time to ease off as you're hitting the speed limit. With your 335D how often do you have your foot full down, and for how long? On the German Autobahn the power of these cars is nice to accelerate from 60 mph up to 100, or 120, or 140 mph.
