My favorite scene! The audio and video were recorded separately. That's how they could change movie to multiple languages for different countries and many of the actors didn't speak any English at all. Every sound was added later. Proper elegant cutting without fancy gimmicks or effects, just a camera having a certain POV to aid the telling of the scene. No slow-motion needed and the scene still stands up well today. Filmmakers could learn many things from this scene. Leone, like Weir and Lean really know how to use camera position and editing to cut a beautiful scene together. Other directors too, but it’s mostly a forgotten art at this point. Directors should study more older movies.
