For all of you wishing you could go out dancing like that, despair not! Although not a huge part of today's popular culture (except perhaps for 1998-2000), swing dancing/lindy hop/jitterbugging is very much alive. In any city over 100,000 people in North America, you are sure to find swing dances usually held at least once a week. You can almost always find lessons and you can dance like they do in the movie to similar music. So go out swinging now!

I think this actually was the birth of rock & roll, in the sense that this was really the first generation to rebel and find their own musical identity. The music and dance steps were "suggestive" to say the least and caused quite an uproar with the older crowd. Rock & Roll indeed.

It's not racist to praise the creators of those styles of music, unless you ONLY praise the contributions one particular race. As I said, the origins of jazz and swing (and even ragtime) were multicultural, no one group developed them.
@Bolanboogie10010 жыл бұрын
***** At least you said adopted it and NOT stole it Like most like to say.
@argophontes9 жыл бұрын
***** Sorry, no, the origins ARE multicultural. There is plenty of non-African influence in Jazz. Jazz origins also include Gypsy and klezmer music. This 'they stole that from us' B.S. mentality is exactly the reason racism continues.
@Bolanboogie1009 жыл бұрын
***** Yes i knew you meant STOLEN in the first place, but of course you're wrong.. But Blacks have been credited with some great Music, like The Blues. But of course like most things in life people come along and make things better..and improve on it. as is with music.
@Bolanboogie1009 жыл бұрын
Yes i don't agree. Peace.

the first number is called "Solid potato Salad," the second is just a generalized swing number by the studio band, which later used the same number for a dance sequence in an Andy Hardy movie. (and it's "floy floy" not foy foy).
