The security young man was lovely. He came over to you and was polite and respectful and phoned someone up to check facts, rather than yelling at you "you aren't allowed", like so many others do.

Building the extra infrastructure for the incoming digital identification and digital currency, track and trace facial recognition total surveillance society .. Where do you think the data from the supermarkets facial recognition cameras, as well as the gradually (software) upgraded cctv systems and the biometric digital money/identity card ( yet to be chip and pin under your skin ) is to be stored, handled and crossed correlated. Yep these large corporations data centers.

To keep the servers on if the power goes out but usually fed by 2 different substations so the likelihood of both being out is low but then a generator to safely shutdown the kit if they do both go off.

He did everything he was supposed to do (except the SIA badge 😜), spoke to you calmly at the start, realised he didn't know, checked it out (fair play to the person he rang too), let you know the results without any ego, gave polite info when asked, and went about his day. It makes you wonder why they bother with the expensive building, racking and stuff, just put the servers in the car park and cover them with a tarp! Power can be provided by camping style EHU and just run the fibre optic under the tarp 😀 Backup power? Who needs that’s it’s just the internet!

Not too bad for the security, challenged you but remained cordial and professional throughout. I never have an issue with security checking on what is happening and if in doubt checking that things are ok, luckily whoever he called for advice wasn’t some “muppet” that thought what you were doing was an issue. It would be much better if the frontline staff didn’t need to ask someone as that always leaves them at risk of confrontations caused by ignorance.

There is no reason for MS to physically locate their data centre close to their offices, it does seem strange not to. Their UK HQ is in Reading, which has more than its fair share of available data centres near by.
