The Boston Celtics kicked off the 2023 NBA offseason with one of the more shocking trades we’ve seen in a while when they dealt Marcus Smart to the Grizzlies for Kristaps Porzingis. But after seeing the Jrue Holiday trade unfold, it’s become very clear that the Boston Celtics plan to head into this 2023-2024 NBA season with a game plan unlike anything we’ve seen from Brad Stevens, Joe Mazzulla & company in years.
To start with the Celtics offense, with a revamped starting five looking like Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum & now even Kristaps Porzingis up front, the initiative they have to score in various ways is going to be limitless. From schemes to focus on perimeter looks, or even to ease the interior attempts, Mazzulla has more to work with than ever before, and after the Jrue Holiday press conference and even the Celtics media 2023 that we saw, he clearly enjoys what he’s seeing as well.
But aside from the offense, the Celtics defense is where everyone’s concerns are. But with adding the defense of Jrue Holiday to the backcourt, along with the rim protection of Kristaps Porzingis up front, the starting rotation along with the likes of Al Horford, Payton Pritchard, Lamar Stevens, Oshae Brissett, & even Sam Hauser should fare much better than most think. But of course, we’ll just have to wait and see.
This video includes 2023 Boston Celtics preseason training camp highlights, also including topics like Boston celtics 2023, boston celtics preseason highlights 2023, celtics training camp, celtics practice, celtics jrue holiday trade, jrue holiday highlights, kristaps porzingis highlights, jayson tatum highlights, jrue holiday interview, jrue holiday press conference boston celtics, celtics kristaps porzingis trade, jaylen brown highlights, tatum boston, brown boston nba, joe mazzulla interview celtics, boston celtics media day, jrue holiday celtics, celtics vs heat, celtics vs sixers, celtics media day 2023, training camp celtics nba, sam hauser celtics, al horford celtics, celtics news today, celtics trade rumors, celtics interview, celtics rumors, celtics practice, holiday celtics, celtics tade news, jrue holiday trade bucks, damian lillard bucks trade, etc, which I do not own ANY of the rights to whatsoever, as these are intended to be used under the guidelines of fair use through KZbin.

Also a Celtics fan. I'm excited for the season in general. I can't remember the last time there has been 6 teams with a legit chance at the title entering a season. Denver probably remains the favorite, but Phoenix, GS, LA, Bos, Mil and then teams like Miami are still threats. Its a really interesting year that should be fun to watch.

As a Celtics fan, I swear we're the best team in the league now. The only question is how will we adapt to guarding the giants of the NBA, being Embiid, Jokic, and Giannis. When they're in, if we go big with Jrue, Brown, Tatum, Horford, and Porzingis, I think we're very very solid. 60 win season imo

This will probably be our most dynamic starting 5 since '08. Porzingis can play both sides and is an efficient 3pt shooting big man. Holiday is a true 2 way PG. Love and gonna miss Smart, but Holiday is solid on defense and Smart just isnt as good offensively as Holiday is.

@@chocolatemeplease Lol Relax. Kristaps, Jrue (1st all NBA Defensive Team), and White (2nd All NBA Defensive Team) are going to be 3rd, 4th, and 5th option scorers in Boston. They don't have to be great scorers with the Jays on the court. One series vs Heat is not a good example of how good of a defender Jrue is, and Kristaps is top 5 defending the Pick and Roll and a top 10 rim protector (look it up) and has played more games that Smart and R. Being a Bucks fan it hurts to see Jrue go, but the scoring Dame brings with him was desperately needed, and at least Jrue went to Boston, where his skills are also a perfect fit for what that team needs, so he's almost guaranteed success. (Obviously, it's not great having your biggest rival, who already have an insane team, get one of your best players. But, it's better than seeing him go to some garbage team and be stuck there unhappy, after he did so much for Milwaukee.)

Hoop digest good commentary good analysis. I’m not a Celtics fan, but I’m an NBA fan. My favorite team is the Lakers. But I have to give Brad Stevens a lot of credit of what he did to remolding the Celtics team. Picking up Jrue Holliday. Was magnificent in my opinion. But how they play him if he’s going to be the starting point guard or will you play beside Jaylen Brown, or will white play beside him they have endless combinations. And if they use Khristophe Porziņģis as a defensive of anchor, it will be interesting from the defensive of perspective. But I’m wondering how does Al Horford play into this. If they can avoid injuries like everything, it should be quite the exciting year for the Celtics. I’m looking forward to seeing them in the Milwaukee Bucks go at it.

I'm truly and deeply sad to lose Smart and Rob but man..... goddamn this team looks the best it has in the JT & JB era, atleast on paper. If Tingus can give us 55 regular season games and stay even just 85% healthy for the playoffs....... there's gonna be championship parades in Boston. Ppl forget how fucking amazing Porzingis can be bc of Washington being mid and how he was basically limited to a spot up shooter for Luka to dish the rock to when he was in Dallas. Dude is gonna be unguardable as the third option behind Tatum and Brown, and Jrue is every bit as good on defense as Smart while actually being arguably better/more efficient/smarter (no pun intended) on offense, plus championship experience is never ever a bad thing to add to a contending roster....AND THEN you got D. White who always just plays winning-style team first basketball and hardly ever makes the wrong decision when he's on the floor. My only concern is health issues cuz they're unpredictable and the depth of the bench but even with that said, Pritchard has been hooping his mfking ass off in the pre season and Walsh has a pretty high ceiling for being such a late pick. This feels like the summer of 07-08 again. Goddamn I hope I'm not massively disappointed 😭☘️

I think defensively Porzingis won't be too much of a step down from Rob, because he's going to play that free safety shot blocker role that Rob did. He's a good shot blocker, and there isn't many teams that have 2 bigs (as in guys you couldn't put someone like JT on) that are both good shooters/iso players, You'll be able to let KP play off one of them with Al taking the Embiid/Giannis types. I imagine Al gets the start over White against teams that have dominant bigs like that. Porzingis' length and hight should be able to make up for some of his technical shortcomings on that end. And going from Smart to Jrue defensively is about as close to a wash as you're going to find. And all that combined with the unquestionably improved offense makes them the clear favorites in my eyes. Dame and Giannis are both great, but JT is right there on Giannis's level and JB isn't far behind Dame. Then comparing the rest of the rosters is not even close. Miami had a great run last year but they took a big step back, and Philly isnt looking to great either. There hasn't been any real contenders in the east other than those 4 recently, and 2 of those 4 got worse. The Bucks/Celtics ECF is going to be insane.

All good, but I’m not sure how you leave Pritchard and Hauser out of the conversation. This team is 8 deep and should easily be the best 3 point shooting team in the league based on their open looks and skills. Pritchard has looked insane this pre-season and his defense has definitely improved.

I think that the Celtics will play major minutes with just one big on the floor (Horford/Porzingis). The Celtics and Bucks will both be more fun to watch this year. In 2022, they played a seven games series in the ECF, and the losing team broke 100 points only three times. Slugfest. This will be better.

You can basically say that KP is an upgrade from Rob Williams, and Jrue Holladay is an upgrade from Marcus Smart. Now payton Pritchard will take some of brogdon minutes, houser will have more minutes and the other players that came from Indiana and hornets will play into bench role. Celtics are still too small in the center position, I say go get dwight howard for cheap.

Both the Bucks and Celtics have a lot of depth issues. A lot of their key bench contributors are gone and not replaced. They received key minutes (20+ min per game) from Grayson Allen/Grant Williams that keeps their stars fresh. Both teams have higher ceilings but they need to have some role players step up or the stars will have a lot of pressure to perform.

being a celtics fan its bitter sweet. i love marcus smart but jrue holiday is an upgrade. we could say they are even at defense and jrue is slightly better offensivley. on the other hand, while kristaps is prbably undervalues on defense he is still a downgrade from timelord. IF rob will coulda stood healthy he woulda been the best defensive bigman in the league by a wide margin. if you go back you will hear all the celtics players saying the same, how undervalued rob will was and just how impactful his defense is. just 20 min a night from rob will was enough to boost us to #3 in the league, and yes he was the core of our defense. Overall though, i think its an upgrade, while jb and jt are on the court we dont need porzingis to do everything timelord used to do, just protect the rim enough to deter drives that beat us which isnt often with how good our permiter defense is. Plus the offense has improved on a lot of levels.. if we can maintain our defenive identity like the last 4 games of the ECF against the heat, we will be fine. Offense will come. i think last year joe focused too much on offense while the year before ime too much on defense. Hopefully this will be the figure it out year, although i think it had to be that even if we didnt make any trades at all.

The point about Jrue not having to play as much ISO is good, but I don’t know about everything else. While his main role in Milwaukee was a facilitator, he was also used off the ball in many situations. Giannis and Middleton would bring the ball up and run the offense as well. The issue is that he’s not really that great when used as a SG. His 3 point percentage with Milwaukee was good, but it was more of a product of their system and him getting so many open looks because of Giannis. You can verify this by looking at his 3 point percentages before being in Milwaukee. The same can be said for players like Portis, Grayson, , Forbes, Lopez, etc.

@@drechillin2154 He's not going to shoot any better. If you look at the the film from when he played with Giannis, teams bascially left him wide open, which caused spacing issues for Giannis. That's a big reason why the Bucks swapped him for Dame. Of course he shot a lot better in their system for that very reason. He won't free up JB or Tatum though, just like he didn't free up Giannis.

@revenge680
@revenge680 8 ай бұрын
@@drechillin2154 Watch some of his three point highlights. And I don’t mean that in a condescending way. Most of his looks were wide open because Giannis would draw 2-3 defenders, and teams would rather stop that, because a dunk is a higher percentage shot than a three. In other systems his outside shooting wasn’t nearly as good. In fact, in the playoffs when defense gets more intense, his three point percentage is pretty bad. Like 29% last season. And that’s still with a lot of open looks. Dame is exactly what Milwaukee needed though. A PG that plays like a SG. Jrue isn’t that guy. He’s much better suited as a traditional point guard. That’s not the type of player Milwaukee needed, and just don’t think the Celtics do either. He’s obviously an elite defender, but still has his struggles in that regard as well.

@@revenge680 Celts don't need him to shoot "better". We'll be fine cuz he'll get the same looks if not better in boston. Giannis is not a threat whatsoever shooting so you dont have to double him on the perimeter. Tatum is a triple threat so he legitimately draws doubles and triples even at the perimeter> Teams try to force him to get rid of the ball even as a facilitator.
