Their financial situation (income aside) isn’t nearly as bad as some of the callers on this show. The only non mortgage debt was an 11k car loan, and they had 5k in savings. Jade is so articulate and delivers solutions with such a soft blow. Problem is she doesn’t see herself having time to do more than be a mother. Children are exhausting! It’s mentally hard to get motivated and be able to manage kids and a job. In this situation husband the one that needs to find ways to make more money. He needs to manage his military time better so he can feed his family and do side hustles

My wife and I are very assertive. When my son was in high school, my wife found him a summer job detasseling corn. He hated it. The next summer, she told him he needed to find a job. He didn't, and after a few weeks, she told him, "If you don't get a job in two weeks, you'll be detasseling corn again." He found a job, and he even kept it while in college. He found that being lazy doesn't work.

"And then he does military stuff." 🙄 He's a reservist: one weekend a month, plus two weeks a year for annual training. He does not have any "military stuff" every night. My senior year in high school, I was an Army Reservist. School full time, plus a job. Jade is right. Sounds like Sarah and hubby do not want to make the extra income. If Sarah is home all day with the kids, once hubby is home, he can watch the kids and she can go deliver pizza or do UberEats for 4 hours.

At 2 months postpartum I was still breasfeeding our twins every 3 hours around the clock, and getting a disjointed 5 hours of sleep per 24 hours (no more than 1.5-2 hours at a time so idk if that’s the greatest thing for her to be going back to work right now but the husband can DEFINITELY find time to bring in an extra $200/month which is likely about what WIC would provide. I mean, really. It’s not like WIC would give them $2000/month.

I clean houses part time and we use that additional income to throw towards debt and to make sure we’re never in the red! It feels GOOD to move forward, never settle for staying stuck! If you want a solution there are plenty!💜

" we buy only what we need" is VERY subjective...you dont "need" any desserts or any snacks...if you have kids you buy snacks and sweets lol thats wasted money just sayin' you want to enjoy life but not waste money its super specific to each family and persons idea of whats necessary and whats not...one person will only drink water another will spend $20 a day on soda for their kids becasue they want it...At the end of the day VERY few people are willing to give up enough of their life luxuries to get out of debt faster...and thats ok thats your choice..

You're a family of four living on 36K pretax, you should absolutely go on WIC and nobody should make you feel bad about it. I mean these aren't bad suggestions of things to do, but they should be done in tandem with using WIC to help with the shortfall.
@richardharris72409 ай бұрын
Also, income qualifier for "WIC" is $ 50 k for a family of 4. So get the WIC and get your ass a job. Get rid of the car.
@marathoneyes9 ай бұрын
There is nothing wrong with signing up for WIC for the interim. It is not Welfare. Maybe getting help with formula will give them that extra money to start paying off bills. Now, that doesn't mean extra jobs are not in the plan, selling the car and downgrading for awhile. It sounds like the husband is in the reserves. He can get a second job and by law, companies cannot fire a military soldier for taking leave for weekends and training. They have some big decisions to make. Good luck!!

There’s nothing wrong with getting on WIC. It’s just covering food for your kids. The fact that our country has a program to make sure kids aren’t starving is amazing. It saves me a really good chunk on groceries and it’s nothing to be ashamed of

She has a 2 month old baby! I think a Mom should stay home with her baby. There are things you can do IMO. I'm assuming the husband gets free military housing, 36k isn't terrible in that case. Get on a strict budget, sell the car with the loan and get a cheap car for now so you can free up some money. And what about babysitting in your home for a kid or two to bring in a little money without leaving your babies at daycare? It also would give the 2 year old someone to play with. Or start a home baking business. There are lots of ideas you could do.This is all short term until the kids grow up and start preschool etc..

I call bs on the " military stuff" after work. If he is in the Guard or Reserves as a weekender he has no duties after his civilian job. If he had a full-time job in the military he would be making a lot more money. I retired from the National Guard as a technician and made about $50K per year.
