@@jasonx4008 How can you NOT include Kill 'Em All??? That was where it all started. @@bx3556 100% agreed! 2 branches of the same tree! Too hard to call as which one was better.....I love them both! IMHO , 2 of the greatest thrash debuts in music history. I have a bit of bias towards being a rabid fan of both bands. I actually saw Metallica WITH Mustaine back in 83 when they first came to the east coast. Nobody had ever heard of them yet.... They opened up for 2 of our local bands here in Baltimore ( Raven and Archangel) at a club called Coast To Coast...and proceeded to blow both bands off the stage! Met the whole band that night, actually bought a cassette copy of their demo directly from Lars, ( which I still have to this day ) and hung out with them after they played. I was only 15 at the time...technically not even old enough to be in the club...but the drinking age back then was 18, and I could pass for being 18 at 15, lol. Needless to say...I have been a fan ever since. When I heard that they kicked out Dave...and he had formed a new band of his own, I rushed to buy their first release the day it came out. Again...blown away....killer album. In 93, I had the great pleasure of re-meeting Dave and the Megadeth boys after their show at the Towson Center Arena.( STP opened ) Dave "spotlighted" (he literally had the light guy shine a spotlight on us...lol) me and my buddy moving the folding chairs from the front row so we could start a pit! He thought it was great, and said over the mic... "look at these two crazy MF'ers re-arranging the seating!" and had one of their roadies come and give us backstage passes to come meet the band after the show. We ended up on their tour bus hanging out and partying with them. Again...super cool bunch, Dave was incredibly gracious, and we ended up jamming together on a couple of acoustic guitars they had on the bus. He and I actually jammed together on a riff that became the song known as "Trust". So, needless to say...I have a bit of personal bias towards being a fan of BOTH bands. This has ALWAYS been too hard to call...they're BOTH great debut albums. For me personally....it's like asking me if I like steamed crabs or steamed shrimp....I love them both, and can't choose a favorite. I guess the only way that I can sum it up, is that they're the two greatest thrash debut albums off all time!

This song is great bc it transcends James’ experience - no matter how strict or lenient one’s parents - everyone has had times - sometimes entire lifetimes - where they felt some of the feelings reflected in the lyrics and overall tone of the song.

Back when high-speed dubbing tape cassettes was a thing, one of my best friends made me a copy of this "album" and it became the soundtrack for my bus ride to school everyday in 7th grade. Coming from a deeply religious background it echoed so much truth, and led me into my path of better understanding the world; and allowed me to be angry at the parts I saw to be false. I will forever be grateful to this album and especially this song, and I'm so glad you're finding it and hearing it for the truth that I felt so long ago as an "out of place" teen in a world of religiosity... wondering what was really real, and deciding to question it

People out there can never avoid this world and what it offers, always temptation which we all fail to. Parents who think they can drag their kids to church to avoid the world's issues obviously dont listen when they attend..its impossible. Knowing is better than not knowing, seeing is believing but can't see anything if one don't look. Its easy to fall, hard to climb back up, no one wants to work hard when they can simply fall. Dragging kids to church without any knowledge of what the world offers can be dangerous cause ones who fall like sex addicts, drug addicts, thieves, heart broken, killers that want change are within the churches to rightfully know understand the meaning of what Christ teaches. Like a hospital that house the sick, the church house the broken. If a church dont have any of the above its probably loaded with false, lost, judgemental, selfish, wealthy people with a moral checklist of what makes them feel good. These people drag kids or other non willing people along to fit their view of clean visually rather spiritually to fit into a worldly society where praying is actually wishing. Moral therapeutic deism. James parents were probably a mix of both, those that understand the lyrics probably had the same treatment, just differently.

Never understand that, my nan used to go to church, I did as a little kid. But I stopped, my mom said to my nan, that we'd choose our own path when we were old enough. So we did, heavy metal and rock music, it's the best religion. Me, my sister and brother are all metal heads. The more intelligence, the less religion.
