I hope it does have something to add to the cozy game genre. To be a hobbit is not enough to carry it, as fun as that will be.

You know what I'm tired of in most of those cozy games ? This "flat" shading look. I don't know why, but we can see it everywhere. And in my personnal opinion, it looks bad. I think this is a way to hide the crimes, hide the fact that textures are very poor, that polygons will be more visible. Sometimes, I can managed to go over this shading choice (like in Dinkum or in Pokemon Arceus). But most of the time, I just hate it.

I hope it has some good quest lines for living in the shire. I feel proper quest lines and good cooking/farming mechanics could make it good

A lot of the flaws, like the graphics and missing/bad animations, I would expect to continue to improve as the game moves out of alpha. However the core issue is that aside from the setting, there's literally nothing here that isn't in nearly every single cozy game. If you don't bring anything new to the table then your version of the old mechanics/systems has to be way better than previous games, and I just don't have faith they'll pull that off.

I love Lotr but I am very skeptical of this game. Normally the first trailer never really gives us any gameplay, and I am ok with that but the graphics look rough. I will definitely not be bothering with a pre order, this goes very firmly on the watch and wait list.

i completely agree. it definitely looks like a chill game. the performance you can already see with the npcs walking in the background look like theyre stuttering a bit. i would say "maybe this was a stylistic choice" but it does seem like some parts are smoother than others. it could definitely use more time and a bit more polishing. we'll see what happens when it comes out!

As a massive LOTR fan...its too late. The franchise made its millions in the 2000s and they've figured out they don't have to work for more money anymore. Just stamp the logo on a product and people will buy it. I desperately hope this is good but I'm not holding my breath.

Stardew Valley is an incredible game, but when I play it is a constant white knuckle race against time. Definitely not cozy in the traditional sense. I hope I’m not the only one.🤣 Almost to 1/4 million subs, congratulations Kora keep crushing it.

I agree, the game feels like its missing such big key factors as if the devs are relying soly on the cozy factor. I love cozy games but i want to have a reason to play besides only decorating. This is why stardew is able to be replayed even now. Because you make connections with the townfolks, create romance. Inahnce the community and work to provide. Tales of the shire has such good potential. I rlly hope they also fix the game looking like a phone game.

I completely agree with your criticism of the trailer as well as games like DDV in general. One of the things I think cozy game devs get wrong is they think to make a game with no stress they have to make no challenge or skill. I'm hoping this game doesn't just have exactly the same gameplay we've seen time and time again.

Just found your channel, and as a cozy game enthusiast I’m really liking it so far. I was wondering if you’ve ever played “Ooblets” or would be willing to do a review on it? Its a cozy game similar to AC that combines monster hunting and dance battles.

I think I have skepticism for how all 3rd party games will run on the switch, but after the recent direct, the gameplay issues do look more smoothed out. Great video!! I’m hoping this game will be as good as the last LoTR game too

Damn, imagine Stardew Valley minus the capitalism grind but 3D and with hobbits. I'd love for this to not suck, especially if there is co-op, so I have a new chill PC game to play with my younger sibling. The lack of detail on textures makes them look blurry, I thought my eyesight was messing with me. I sort of get what they were going for in terms of looks, but it's just looks raw. Hope it looks better on PC, but I'm not holding my breath. Also hope they work a bit more on hobbit faces, they kinda look like pugs with varying degrees of inbred (especially the lady with gray hair in berry coloured dress with apron).

I also hope this game doesn’t suck. I’m a LotR fan and was super excited when I saw the teaser trailer last year. I’m honestly surprised that the game is coming out so soon. All I can do is hope the devs do this game right so it doesn’t end up in the cozy game fodder pile.

I have seen way too many red flags now. And from their own websites they have stated that they are not prepared for anything after release. So if it does turn out to be yet another shallow game, don't expect anything being added after release.

Personally I just don't get why you'd want to live in the shire in the first place. As a long time LOTR fan whose read the books the shire is just like "home base" to me? It's the place you leave from and return to and while it certainly has its own culture it always struck me as a sort of small town busy body world. It's a great place so long as you were born and raised there but I dunno man I never wanted to 'visit the shire'. I thought the whole point was the hobbits who left the shire cane back changed fir having seen the wider world and having done great feats for good or ill. Maybe it's just because I grew up and live in a small town but the inner workings and musings of a bunch of people constantly in each other's business and largely ignorant of the more important things happening around them doesn't make fur a place I want to visit lol. I want to interact with the cool hobbits who went there and back not the local radish seller who probably had some bad things to say about foreigners
@sweetdreamer94884 ай бұрын
I believe the point of the shire in the books was to represent what Tolkiens ideal society would be like. A simple life without any industrialization. If that doesn’t appeal to you it’s okay, just because it was Tolkiens ideal does not mean it is everyone’s
@strayiggytv4 ай бұрын
@@sweetdreamer9488 I get that but he also presented it as a very "small world" on purpose as well. Petty disputes and rivalries still existed in the shire and they were put into to sort of juxtapose with the much more serious problems happening outside of the average hobbits knowledge. It wasn't a condemnation of them by any means but it was put there to provide contrast. I'm probably not doing a good job describing it but the way they sort of politely isolated bilbo as "that weird guy who had an adventure" pointed to them being a little petty and very concerned with propriety in a way that makes it not all that appealing to every person looking in if that makes sense. Tolkien has a sense of humor about hobbits and he reflected the kinds of petty nonsense small closed societies get up to pretty well imo.
@TheDawnofVanlife4 ай бұрын
i mean most of the cozy game genra is about idealistic small simple life. After the horrors experienced leaving the shire, while interesting to read about I would have been mostly happy to stay the hobbit that stayed home. Of course I was born and raised in a relatively busy city and now live in a small town, love it, and hate the city…so yeah there is an audience for the simple life of Shire-Folk. Also you can be a small towner who just likes the chiller vibe and slower pace. You don’t have to be the raddish seller who has a negative view of anything outside his bubble and foriegn.
@InazumaDash4 ай бұрын
It looks fine, maybe 20 bucks fine. I hope they aren't selling it for more than 30 because it seems very limited in how much you can decorate your house. You also can't play as other races than Hobbits, so you're gonna look a very specific way other than hair, skin, gender.

Thank you so much for this video. I have been eyeing this game. The second trailer definitely looks better than the first, but I really would like to know what the mechanics will look like. I very much hope that by the holidays, they have fleshed out a good game because I plopped down the full price for DDV and I got so sick, almost immediately, with how tedious it was. I did not enjoy playing it. I even found the characters annoying. Leveling up was just a slog, not fun and verrrrrry boring. In fact, I dreaded playing it and only continued for a month or two because I felt guilty for not giving it a fair chance. I want so much to have a new cozy game like ACNH to love, I still play that a little bit every single day, I enjoy it that much. I hope it doesn't disappoint, but I won't be buying it until I see reviews from people like you. I really wish I'd waited on DDV. What a waste of money.

I'm split on this. I think what will sell me hard is if there are more little mini quests that address small conflicts and missions, which is something I feel is often missing from cozy games.... for all the straight up copies of Stardew out there, a lot of them miss the boat on the character and story elements. I was also a lot happier with trailer #2 but am hoping to see more about mechanics before release.
