Im only 6 minutes in, but im curious to get your opinion on what you think would constitute sincerety? Because this is the first guy who wasnt just reapeating the same key phrases they learn in those classes or from other inmates. That they believe the parole board want to hear. The first time an inmate actually described in detail, what they learned from their classes, and ehy they did what they did. Most inmates just say "i was young and dumb" or "idk why i did it" or "i was on drugs/alcohol" etc. He actually described why he did what he did, and in detail. Instead of very short responses to the board members questions, he was having an actual conversation, being involved in the process. If that makes sense. He also used the victims name, when other inmates try to call them anything but. The board ended up having to tell him to not mention the victims name. I dont see manipulation at all. He may not feel remorse, but he definitely, truly learned where he went wrong, and gained the tools and knowledge to stop himself from behaving in such a way again. The fact that he is not trying to kowtow to the board members, grovelling like most other inmates. Tells me there is no motivation to manipulate. Because why would he risk coming across as a smug jerk to the board, that could result in them denying him parole? Often times, people who are not fully in submission, that arent sweet talking, or grovelling at the feet of authority, comes across as smug or just is taken negatively overall. But in reality, there really is nothing wrong with their behavior. As i continue to listen as i write this, i really believe that is whats going on here. I honestly dont think he is being manipulative, and if this is the wrong behavior, and the usual inmate responses are wrong. What would be considered to be sincere? I hope that makes sense. My English is not vert good, so i have a hard time getting my thoughts into words. I am genuinely curious to know what you think about this, and i am open to changing my opinion. I hope you had a wonderful weekend:)

@@kiwigirlNZ oh, I completely understand. And probably should have waited to comment until afterwards. I was actually still listening to the video as I typed my comment, and would pause in the middle of typing. So I was able to get a better idea of the person's behavior. I did end up watching the video again afterwards, without reading or typing in the comments, and I don't think I have seen anything that would change my opinion. Many times we are going to have different opinions, because of our different perspectives.( If that's the right word/term?) Anyway, that is why I come to the comments section. To have a genuine, and civil discussion. To get the perspective of others, and learn why they believe what they do about the specific topic. And normally, someone will offer their different perspective, that ends up opening up my own, so that I see where I saw things incorrectly, and was happy to change my opinion. I have no intention in argument, or to put down others. I respect the opinions of others. Even if they do not align with my own. I am fully ok with agreeing to disagree if no common ground can be reached, without judgement towards the other person. I should have waited to make that comment until after I watched the hearing in entirety. But I did type out my comment, as the video went on. Only starting my first couple sentences at the 6 minutes mark. And after watching with my full attention, afterwards. I still have the same opinion, just from my own perspective. I am simply asking for the perspective of the others, so that I may learn something I just didn't see. It's important when forming an opinion. I think. IDK. My English is not the best, so I may not be explaining things very clear. I do apologize for that. And I hope I did not cause any offense. That was not my intention.

Comments: something that you say or write that expresses your opinion. -Cambridge Dictionary To answer your question, no I didn’t have the perfect life. Not that it’s any business of you, but I probably had the most tumultuous, dysfunctional, and terrifying upbringing. I made sure my children didn’t grow up in the same environment. My mom got into an extremely abusive (although very short) relationship, and when she broke it off, it became even more violent. They lived together for a very short time, as he took a crow bar and hit her in the face w/ it. I was 3 1/2, and I remember my older sister telling me to go to the trailer next to ours, and to call the police. I did so, and when I came out of the neighbors, he picked me up, and kidnapped me. I was taken to his sister’s home, it was a bi-level, and he held a shotg•n on me for 13 hours. When my mom came, again she was hit in the face, broken nose, and orbital bone, he stood at the top of the stairs, telling her if she tried coming in, he’d sh••t her and then me. She left, and came back w/ several friends. (She worked as a bartender for a private motorcycle club. No, not Hell’s angels, but they were all Italian. They then came back w/ her, one of them grabbed me, and my mom, sister, and I left. Mom then went to the hospital. This guy has not been seen since. Oh, it was 1978, so things were much different then. I actually tried looking up his name last year, as I still have nightmares, and his name was no where! So, I can guarantee you that I did not have a rosy life. My mom passed away from leukemia before my children were born, and I watched her slowly die for almost 5 years. That was a lot for a 16 year old to see. I had to drop out of HS, as my stepfather worked days. Someone had to be w/ her at all times. I was called by the school and asked if I wanted to be in the first GED class of that county. I went to night school, and thankfully was still able to graduate w/ my class. ‘93. I tried going to college, but I was terrified that my mom would pass while I was gone. She died at 51, I was 20. I would sit in the chair next to the couch and I remember watching her intently while she slept, in fear of her breathing would stop. I had one hell of a life before I met my spouse, so I absolutely have the right to comment. There was one other horrible incident that I endured, that is extremely traumatic for me, but I won’t share it for very personal reasons. When I met my now spouse, we had very in-depth discussions about how we would act and what we say in front of our children. We weren’t perfect, still aren’t, but I made a decision to break the cycle. I’m extremely opinionated bc I could have easily become a statistic, but I wasn’t going to allow myself to fail! Let me tell you, it was f’ing hard! It’s still hard! I have zero sympathy for people who have “had it rough.” Trust me, I absolutely had it rougher. (As those are just 2 things out of hundreds.) I went to college after my mom died. I really only had a 10th grade education. Yes, I got my GED, but it wasn’t like it is today. I had to take pre-requisite after pre-requisite. But I kept going, trying, and fighting my way through. So I don’t have sympathy for those who become criminals! I’m so thankful that I chose my husband wisely bc he’s one of the kindest, most generous persons I know! I chose to get into a relationship, w/ someone who would edify me, and stand by me. If anyone has the right to comment on these videos, it’s me! Thanks 😊
