I Doubled my FJ Cruiser's Steering Wheel Controls

I pretty much have this head unit and the 2014 FJ without subwoofer. I realize I am doing it wrong but for the life of me I still haven't gotten steering wheel controls working. 🙂 I need to go back through your videos and see if you talked about it there. Thanks for all these, I know some of them are older but they've definitely helped me.

thanks for the top tip here - I was wanting mute and power off functions and now I have them thanks to your instructional video

You're welcome. There are a ton of other functions as well, so you can customize it to your own needs. I mapped one button to allow me to switch between AM and FM radio, and mapped another button that allows me to turn on and off the loud function, which is essentially like switching on a subwoofer.

Awesome, i have android head units in our two vehicles and never took the time to think about steering wheel button setup. Good stuff and i am going to see if this will make my android head unit experience better. Still saving for our FJ stay safe and keep the videos coming.

Hey. I have an Android 12.3" system too, but having problem while the Tlink (app used for CarPlay or Android Auto) is working. I have no volume on Music or Navigation. Tried different settings but still having the same issue. Have you have this problem before? If so, what settings do you have?

Like ur vids and bought an android 12.3 because of ur vids. Im a new fj owner and have 2011 model. I saw you did an install video of the unit back then. Do you still have it on here?

I never did an installation video because I took it to a professional audio installer. I have no business doing that kind of stuff so I just wanted to make sure it was done right. Thanks for watching and enjoy modifying your FJ. You're going to fall into a rabbit hole.

Have you figured out a way on how to turn off the screen backlight without turning off the head unit?

The only way I know is how I demonstrated it in the video, by holding the x button, the screen will turn off but the sound will remain.

@@LiL13izzy7 just curious, is there a way to relocate the aircon vent below the screen so that the monitor will be at an eye level in the dash..

So hey does the head unit need the adapter behind it to use the steering wheel controls like most stereos need to interact with factory steering wheel buttons? Or does it have that function directly just plugging into stock wiring ?

It comes with a wiring harness to adapt your current steering wheel controls

Controls for audio: Volume up/ down, next track or radio preset for music. Mode toggles between cd player and radio (with the original stereo). With my Android head unit, I can toggle between radio, music, aux input, and video player.
