You just made my day! Thank you. I recently retired and actively sought out another FJ Cruiser. Had one brand new in 2013 for 3 years and foolishly sold it with 40k on it for $6k more than I paid. I regretted it the very next day and every day after that. Now, 7 years later, I paid $41k for a one owner loaded 2013 FJ with 39k miles and again, I am insanely happy. I will drive this until the day I die. I love it that much. Also, I am shocked just how many previous FJ owners are just like me and actively seek out another FJ to replace one they foolishly sold. What you save in repairs alone, versus other cars, more than makes up for the modest fuel economy. Worth every penny! Scotty tells the TRUTH! These things just ROCK!

I still have my 07 that I bought new in 08. Runs great and just about ready to turn 100k miles. During the pandemic I upgraded a few things, which really increased my enjoyment of vehicle. I upgraded the headlights with LED bulbs; swapped the CD/radio for a touch screen receiver with CarPlay, rearview camera, and mic for hands free communications; and swapped the OEM sway bars for bigger aftermarket sway bars. The bulbs and receiver really bring a modern touch and convenience to the FJ, and the sway bars noticeably improved handling in turns and stability at highway speeds. The receiver had a kit that allows me to use the controls on the steering wheel to control the receiver. It may not crawl over rocks quite as well with the new sway bars, but I'm not rock crawling. Definitely the best new car value I ever had, even with the poor gas mileage.

I'm sure the dealer didn't know this was a 'cult' car... something I could have cared less about, as he seemed to be glad to get rid of it. Probably went by bluebook. Anyway, I get 19 hwy/town combo, but stick to the limit while driving. To me it has amazing bump handling. If any of our other cars go over a pot hole, they almost leave the road. Not the FJ. It shakess a little but stays planted. I've had several offers for it, but plan to keep it forever as a 'gentleman's' off roader. Had my fj since new(dec 06), 230k miles. Besides the usual maintenance, brakes, suspension, radiator, belts/pulleys(regular replacement parts imo at this high mileage). The worse part about the FJ is the rust, this thing does not hold up to rust that well(I'm in Massachusetts). Even though I wash it quite often and have undercoated it, rust beats this thing silly. Also, the brakes every time I do a brake job, calipers seize. Don't know why, but the pistons are always bad when taken off. Overall great truck and going to drive it into the ground. yes, MPG is like 12-15 with a 3" lift and 33's, but who cares.

I had a '85 Toyota Xtra Cab Truck and got rear ended. This was back in '86, so don't recall the speed. I was sitting at a stop light on an off ramp and a lady smacked into me. We pulled away to get out of traffic and I could see her front grill mangled pretty good. She just took off in the opposite direction, probably had no insurance. My bumper just had a little smudge on it and pushed in maybe 1/4", not real noticeable at all. Steel wool buffed out the smudge. Of course this was back when a bumper was a bumper. Sadly I cannot say the same for the frame. It eventually rusted where the spring shackles welded to the frame. But I bet it's 22RE engine is still running somewhere.
