Such a beautiful set! MTH is a better deal, plain and simple. Especially the later stuff when they added people and upgraded the designs. We have one set of 21" cars, and they look too big at times. One engine has trouble pulling all 8, and you need 072 curves. I much prefer 18" - Ryan

I have several MTH Premier Pennsy, NYC and Strasburg passenger cars that I have gotten over the years, all with figures. The Pennsy and NYC sets were all used, and I think on average I paid less than $50/ car. Just can't afford $200/ car for the new ones. That's a great looking set you have there!

Totally agree on your comments! My preference MTH vs LIONEL. Two reasons especially these days. Better quality control, cost wise a little less expensive. When MTH was the major competitor they kept Lionel's prices reasonable.

If I had this set, I would be adding more sitting passenger people into the seats and all. I have the western Atlantic Railroad passenger cars in O scale and they are MTH passenger cars and I have added sitting people in the passenger cars and made a double bathroom in each car. I plan to get more of the overton western Atlantic passenger cars and the other rolling stock cars for that set I am going to be making.

I just love MTH - for all the reasons you mention but also the DCS control system. TMCC and Legacy just seem so clumsy and not intuitive. I have over 80 MTH loco and hundreds of coaches and goods wagons - I only have 5 Lionel locos and a few early wagons. However I do love the Lionel John Bull set. Good video Sam! Cheers Pete - Sydney, Australia.

They are great. Check also some K Line ones. They have the same quality and you also get great deals on them

Honestly, I think that the details and price range is better then Lionels passenger car sets. The only thing I will say about Lionel is that I do like there station sounds cars from the early 2000s only. considering that alot of their merchandise is now unfortunately being made in china today. MTH overall has the best quality product today. Great job on video Sam! Hope too see you at the show this Friday 🚂

Hi Sam I have similar cars in the Pennsylvania RR livery and I agree MTH went the same distance as far back in 1998

Yeah they just did a good job for a great price. Not knocking Lionel but MTH is a more affordable option for the newer faces in the hobby.

MTH was always a great value for the money spent, just as Mr. Mike intended. And those 18" cars look just fine. Interestingly I've seen scale passenger cars, 21-inchers, from various makers and to my eyes they just don't look "right," if you follow my meaning. The selectively-compressed cars in O Gauge always look much better on the average layout, in my opinion anyway. And those 20th Century Limited cars look great! Thanks for posting!

MTH’s rolling stock is top of the line. Got any MTH rolling stock yourself Wayne?
@wayneantoniazzi27064 ай бұрын
@@huntercoleman460 I do, all RailKing (great value for money) and too much to go into. Briefly I've got the Blue Comet set, New York Central 20th Century and Madison sets, PRR Madison sets, and N&W Powhatan Ltd set, 19th Century passenger sets, plus a whole buncha boxcars. I've never been disappointed with any of them, all good buys.

The later MTH 18” cars are great. As said above the bang for the buck is there. I think overall 18” cars are great wether it’s MTH now Atlas or older Lionel. I have a 18” set of Lionel Steamlines and they have great interiors and highly detailed. Not sure why the 21” cars have no people and monochromatic interiors but doubled in price. Also I am just glad the green windows are supposed to be no longer in Lionel heavyweights 😂

I had a bit in the video ripping Lionel for it but I spared them. Thank you for watching!

I never got why they had green windows. What was the idea?

Just found your channel and enjoyed the discussion of MTH's passenger cars. Out of curiosity, is that an MTH One Gauge Hudson in the background? I had a 700' outdoor setup at my last house and I ran live steam and MTH One Gauge, including the Hudson, Big Boy, Challenger, etc.

Welcome to the channel! Yes it’s the newest MTH Hudson. I did a video on it as well. Video is titled:I’m Back.

I agree MTH is superior in both quality and price for their O gage trains. Lionel is loosing its reputation for quality products and the prices they are charging are just too high. I hope MTH continues with expanding their line since they now provide the better product at better prices.
