Those shifter bushings look upside down. It should have two bushings that sandwich the big ball on the shifter. Early S4 shifters didn't have a nylon cup like miatas and FD transmissions, it's metal on metal, S5 changed to nylon cup. The spring, which is amazing is still there, the ball has to go inside of the top hook, it allows the shifter to return to neutral when out of gear, otherwise it's sloppy.

I was working on a mazda rx8, and I learned how important the eccentric shift position sensor is the hard way. My friend bought a 2004 mazda rx8 6 speed on a brand new rebuild for $300 because it didn't run. We troubleshooted for weeks, going through ecms, esps sensors,, tunes, even looking at the teeth at the eccentric shaft, only to find that the jack the esps sensor was replaced (and the sensor being a Halifax sensor) and the wires in the jack were flipped. Great vid, I love fc's more than anything

When I used the driveshaft for speed I had to angle the sensor towards the bolts to get some spacing between the pulses.
@clintonlangerak79723 жыл бұрын
Actually there is probably no need for this at all. You can just pick off the cruise control signal coming from the speedo. I have the cruise control speed signal wired to the Haltech in my FC. From speed vs rpm it knows what gear you're in. Only issue is the speedo cable is now 30yrs old and getting a bit erratic. I'm changing it to an electronic speedo from a Honda Integra (almost a direct fit using the Mazda gauge face) with a Toyota sender that bolts straight in to the gearbox where the cable comes out.

on gauges: Oil Pressure and Oil Temp. Coolant Temp is there was a 3rd slot. I dont care if those things are also on the factory display, aftermarket displays, on a laptop, etc. those are things id rather have redundant in case one isnt working. showing those things in 2-3 places increases your chance of noticing a problem sooner. outside of the "safe" stuff, shift light is another good one in most applications.
