That costume is so good, as is this movie. A great introduction to horror for younger viewers, and still absolutely spine-chilling for adults. The stop motion is incredible, Dakota Fanning voices Coraline to perfection, and the Other Mother is perhaps the creepiest animated villain ever.

Also it’s possible that the cat was the real villain. He led wibbie to her. Wibbie’s grandmother had the doll which wibbie gave to her. When Caroline said how do you know the other mother, the cat said its game we like to play. Except there’s only one key to open the door. The cat can’t open it which means a kid would have to. The last kid to open the door was wibbie grandmother’s missing sister. Which was at least 70 years ago. Which means the cat had to be there. But cats can’t live that long. Nor can they vanish. When the other mother created the garden for coralline it looked like coralline. When you go to the end of the movie the gardening our world looks like coralline. The other mother abilities has no bonds in the real world. Which means the garden shape always looked like coraline. Like it alway supposed to be her who defeats the other mother. Here’s my theory, the cat was a enemy of the other mother. He new that coraline was the key. That the mother would seek her out. He talked to wibbie and led him to meeting her because he knew wibbie would like talking to her, even giving her a gift that looked like her. The cat chose not to talk to coraline in the real world around coraline just like he decided not to vanish around her. Helped her when he wanted to and then disappear and watch from the distance. Ever notice how in the other world he always left when the other mother or her other creations were around? And yet he was still in the other world. Ever think about what he was doing? Watching her and deciding at which points to help her.

Another thing that I noticed most people don't realize from the movie it's that the parents are financially struggling through the first half of the movie. They are overworking themselves because they need to finish a work project, if you pay attention, their fridge is empty, They are very careful with how much money they spend, they refuse to buy Coraline expensive gloves. However, as soon as the book is finished, they buy her the gloves and there is groceries in the car when coraline is looking for her parents, which included salmon and other pricey stuff. Coraline, being a child, may not understand it, but I always thought it was mean of her to make her parents the villains simply because they could not afford otherwise.

That's definitely not why they were made to be the villains. They were neglectful and they were very snappy when she just wanted some attention. And I get that they were going through a lot of stress, but they didn't even apologize for them being nasty. They didn't let her even play or garden, which they could have made a deal for to clean up the mess. She's eleven, she's old enough to do it. No one was bothered by her parents not being able to afford stuff, they were dealing with a lot of stress, financially and just in general with work. But they were neglecting her during one of the most difficult things to deal with as a child, no wonder she was so rude to Wybie, she was projecting. In contrast to her other mother who gave her all the attention.

​@@frogg523Yes you're right, but think about a time where you're so mad, you cannot control yourself, but someone unrelated says something and you snap, you didn't actually mean to hurt this person but you're so stressed you're only thinking about yourself, I've done this and I'm not even a parent, that's what they did, they were snappy because of, car crash, new house, and no money, it will make you snappy, which is why you can understand them but i would try NOT to he snappy, because my kid isn't doing anything but trying to be a kid, I'd probably try to distract them and "push them aside" (have them do something else) so I could work to the bone so we could have money, that's why I'm not mad at either the parents or Coraline, they're all struggling in this movie, and they are better and happier at the end, it looks like they're doing better because they're not as stress, I'm sure they weren't always like that only while moving :D

In fact the other father is not a real human. When the other mother says “he’s as hungry as a pumpkin.” She’s hinting that’s he’s not a real human. So this poor pumpkin was turned into a pumpkin, and then when the other mother turns angers and becomes a spider, or looks like a spider. The other father is turned back into a pumpkin but still has the buttons and glasses.

If you were paying attention to the Other Father's song, you'd realize that it was actually a warning. Making up a song about coraline. She's a peach (something to eat) she's a doll (how the other mother spies on her) she's a pal of mine (he actually cares about her.) She's a cute as a button to everyone who ever laid their eyes on coraline (buttons for eyes) When she comes exploring, mom and I will never ever make it boring (how the other mother plans to lure her into staying) Our eyes will be on coraline (sewing the buttons into her eyes) And then the pause right at the end, before he pulls away, he looks right at the camera like he's saying, "Did you get that?"

Coraline and her parents aren’t bad people, they were just going through a rough time, a recent car crash, low on money and food and just moved. All that at once would turn anyone (even me) into a moody person for at least a week. So really none of them were bad, the other mother was the villain. All in all once everything was figured out and fixed, they were able to love their new life and each other.

This is a fun theory, but it isn't right. The game the cat was talking about was referring to his ability to go in and out of her world. She doesn't like it and he's made a little game of escaping from her grasp/sight. The cat also couldn't talk in the normal world. Only the other world.

Neat little thing that goes unnoticed: Real mom says she locked the door because she saw some rat crap and wanted Coraline to feel safe. Next time she goes into the other world, she discovers the circus mice are actually rats.

If you notice at the start the girl doll is wyborn's grandma's lost sister. That means that she already targeted the lost sister's soul. So she was remaking coraline as a doll for her soul. And you notice the hand at the start looks robotic ish. But you notice at the end part the other mother morphs into a creature. You can notice that the other mothers hand looks exactly like that. And when coraline throws the hand in a bag down the well, the well's appearance looks just like the tunnel but without the colors. Then at the very end you notice the cat dissapeears, but in the other world when the cat is like "you might think this world is a dream come true" blah blah blah. He dissapeears in the branches. So.. does that mean coraline never truly escape the other world..? And also.. When the girl says "I see a very peticuliar hand" that hand is the hand that made coraline, and that hand is the other mother's.. AND ONE LAST THING. Wbyie and coraline threw the hand down the well in a bag then tied the key to it. That key was the only way in and out.. So does that mean the other mother's hand can still revive her self... So coraline is not truly safe..

Fun Fact if you didn’t notice: Coraline was holding the Poison Oak Branch with both hands but she ends up only having it on one hand, it’s because when she meets Wybie she had fallen into the mud and wiped it on her coat (this is the hand the has no Poison Oak) and later in the movie the Other Mother says “Mud is great for Poison Oak” that’s why she only has it on one hand. “The more you know” ⭐️😂

if you guys wanna know some creepy stuff heres some :)! when coralines at the other mothers house eating dinner (i dont remember which scene sorry :( ) there is a lighting strike in the shape of the other mothers hand which you later on the movie is a big part of it, while in the dining room there are 3 pictures of the kids who had died from the other mother including Wybies grandmother's sister. bugs mean bad luck and i think the key is a skeleton key( and the shadow of the other mother shows her true form at 7:54

(btw I love your vids their awesome) so there’s a theory that coraline never left 1. there’s no magic in the real world so how did that mirror thing happen and her “parents” where stuck in there and the cat disappearing 2. in the coraline book the ghost children said “once we saw the othermother we never saw our real mothers again” 3. the beldam can play illusions so that’s how coraline wakes up in the “real” world every morning and how the beldam pretended to be coralines mom and 4. the clouds at the end of the movie and the lightning signify the beldams hands that’s the theory bye :)

When I was 5-ish, my cousin would come to my house for a playdate about 3 times a week, but it would vary if either of our parents had plans. On one of these play dates, she asked me to watch Coraline. I did, and as a scrawny little kid, who was scared of balloons, not balloons popping balloons *following* me, I LOVED THIS MOVIE. I had no idea it was a “scary” movie because I thought all horror movies were live action, and I just genuinely didn’t think Coraline was supposed to be scary. I also remember really liking the animation style, I think stop motion to this is day is a time consuming, but beautiful way of animation. She asked me how I liked it a week later and I said it was amazing, and asked her if she wanted to watch it again at my house. She said “Uh I’m ok, how about something else?” She told me recently that she asked me to watch it, because when she did she was terrified, and she thought it’d be funny if I watched it and was super scared.

I remember this movie scared the crap out of me when I was a kid had nightmares of all sorts 😱😱 since watching it then I haven’t watched after that until recently now that I’m older and it wasn’t as bad compared to when I was little but it is still weird especially with buttons for eyes thing and the mother still freaks me out and animation is interesting also adds to the story but it does the one thing it’s supposed to do and that’s scare you so thank you so much for doing this movie perfect for Halloween 🎃 ps love your costume 😊

A couple of notes and answers to questions you have. When Other Mother says “Soon you’ll see things our way” you mocked the motion she does with her hand perfectly and it was an intentional motion. Not only does she touch her eyes, signifying she will literally see things their way with button eyes, but she does the hand symbol that some have called the devils sign(the rock on or “horns” as most call it). The other mother never eats but other father eats a tremendous amount of food, this is something no theorist or reactor has ever mentioned but you can see, Mother has an empty plate always and Father has an over-full plate, he is constantly hungry and always mentioning food while she doesn’t seem to care for it. When she says “hungry, aren’t you?” Her eyes almost gleam and she rubs her hands together. Other Mother is telling the audience that she is hungry too, hungry for Coraline’s soul. Mother acts like a demon, patiently plotting and planning and though she is starving would prefer to eat one soul than feast on thousands. Notice how she doesn’t lure both grandma and her sister, she really only wants one special child, one who is discontent and in her own twisted way she has taught them a lesson, like a female Jigsaw(even their color schemes match). Other Mothers hand writing has been analyzed by hand writing experts, on the cake she doubles her o’s but in a specific way. She is saying Coraline you are welcome but you aren’t home. If you look carefully the three ghost children have sillhoute portraits in the kitchen and the bowls of taffy somewhat correlate to the time they vanished. It’s never explained but the reason Angus the dog isn’t feeling well is because he is being tormented by other mother(explained in the book). When Coraline is setting up the plant seeds at the window they are all plants in the other garden or they are related to her in some way. Other Fathers fate is hinted at when Mother says “I bet he’s hungry as a pumpkin!” And he turns into one! Like a demented Cinderella carriage. Other Father and Other Wybie seem to genuinely care for Coraline unlike the other neighbors and other animals, most likely because they are created based off people who truly care for Coraline in the real world while other mother is a demon in disguise, fashioning herself to merely look like the mom, Father and Wybie act like real protectors, even dying for Coraline. This speaks volumes for the real Wybie, who deserves his own movie explaining why his parents cursed him with that name then threw him at the semi-senile grandma who lives alone in a creepy place.

There’s a fan theory that Coraline never went back. Whether that’s true, I don’t know. But if it is true, then basically there’s 3 world, 3 fathers, 3 Russian guys, 6 actresses and 2 mothers. The Beldam controls 2 worlds and when Coraline sleeps, she doesn’t go anywhere, the Beldam just switches the worlds from button mode to eyeball mode. When Coraline isn’t there, everything on the other side of the tunnel is just waiting there, but the Beldam actually follows Coraline there herself by a different tunnel. She controls the universe, so it’s probably just a wall that opens and closes. When Coraline woke up expecting to go to wake up in the real world but she doesn’t, that was just the Beldam not bothering to switch modes.

I just realized that when the ladys from downstairs read her future I laughed when the other one said she saw a giraffe but if you really think about it she was giving her a clue to find her parents just like the other lady was warning her about the hand like wasn't her parents found in the Detroit zoo snow globe at the end it was like it was foreshadowing.

BTW in the beginning that hand making the dolls was the mother because you can see the doll before it and if you look at one of the ghost it was the person on the doll before it was made into coralline ❤I loved your outfit and your videos 😊

Gurl you should DEFINITELY watch Maya and the Three it’s made by the SAME people who made The Book of Life. AND some of the voice actors who voiced characters in The Book of Life VOICED some of the characters!!! I’d DEFINITELY recommend it’s SO good. The animation, the characters, the arcs, it’s PERFECT!

You mentioned how the intro uses techniques used to embalm a dead body, but you never clarified that you understood what the intro meant. So here’s that! In said introduction, the “creature” making the doll has hands made of sewing needles, a trait the Beldam can be seen possessing when her true form is revealed, suggesting that it is the Beldam making the doll. In case you’re confused, a Beldam is a kind of witch that consumes children’s souls to stay young and immortal, and is the true form of Coraline’s other mother. Later on in the movie we discover that Wybie’s grandma’s sister went missing when they were children, and we see a photo of the two girls. In that photo, we can see the sister holding a doll with button eyes that looks identical not only to her, but also to the doll in the introduction. Later later on in the movie when Coraline meets the ghost children, one of the three ghosts looks exactly like Wybie’s grandma’s sister as well. So pretty much the introduction scene shows the Beldam taking the doll used to murder Wybie’s grandmother’s sister, and redesigning it for her next victim. :D
