Where to begin: I went into this with a very open mind. As you can see there’s a lot to like about the car when it’s static. Where it really falls apart is when you start driving! The beeps and bongs are overactive and going non stop (for nothing), there’s no way to disable voice commands which comes up constantly, the suspension is quite firm on small impact areas but softer and livable under normal undulations, there’s NO WAY it has 400hp and the power isn’t consistent, the noise on the highway is nearly unbearable, and non-working lane centering / cruise control + all of the rattles make this a non-starter for a trip. The brake feel, in my short drive, was extremely vague and the overall lack of quality wasn’t reassuring. VinFast hasn’t released charging speeds for the car yet or really shown any kind of engineering prowess when compared with competitors. The positives: door thunks are great, the software can be updated (it needs to be updated), styling is nice, I bet you could exceed EPA range easily. At the end of the day, a ~$55-62k vehicle should be something you’re proud to drive. Obviously you worked hard to drive something premium and this vehicle does not live up to it. A 179mi EPA range shows extreme inefficiency, however I hear a new test will increase it a whopping 20mi. Seriously, if VinFast put half the amount of money into engineering instead of the crazy marketing they’re doing, they may have a desirable product.

I agree that it wasn't time wasted. But I'd already written off Vinfast because of its crappy Tesla-like infotainment screen and no instrument panel/screen. It will take a lot for me to buy any BEV with an "iPad-glued-to-dashboard" joke of an infotainment screen, and this is not the proper place for any reputable automaker to be emulating Tesla. One thing that I think is good about the Vinfast is the ordinary exterior door handles; receding door handles are for the birds and just something more to break.

Not only that, VinFast owner Pham Nhat Vuong got blood money for wealth from colluding with the utterly corrupt and brutal Vietnamese Commie regime and selling robbed lands and houses of poor Vietnamese citizens. The Financial Times even had investigative reports on this topic. VinFast is part of VinGroup whose numerous enterprises ended up being short-lived, including convenient stores, clothe lines, smart phones, rice-cookers, stock-trading platform, gas cars, e-bikes, and soon-to-be electric cars. Chairman Vuong's real goal is to take this so-called company on US market IPO, sweep the cash, then flee like a bandit. He created the vast wealth for VinGroup only through using VinGroup as a conduit to sell robbed lands of poor Vietnamese citizens by colluding with the brutal Vietnamese Commie regime who directly did the land-robbing. Search "cuop dat dan" (meaning "land robbing of citizens") right here on KZbin to see millions of footages of such land-robbings all over the country, spanning for decades, dating back to Commie Chinese puppet Ho Chi Minh's deadly land-reform (1953-1956) that slaughtered nearly 1 million North Vietnamese to rob their lands and homes. Kyle is quite ignorant not even knowing how to open the sunroof of the VF8 Plus by using the voice activation! One thing I found the VF8 PLus interesting is that pouring some cool water on its windscreen sensor, will cause the sunroof to automatically quietly close by itself. This means whenever a VF8 Plus driver forgets to close the sunroof and it begins to rain, the sunroof quietly does its job by closing itself. This high tech helps prevent the EV from damaging its interior, which can lead to many electric issues later. This is why people called VF8 Plus, a smartcar.

At the end of the video @39:50 Kyle said, "This [VF8] is not a performance car". He actually rated the VF8 based on the standards of performance cars! Performance vehicles are commonly referred to as sports cars, muscle cars, or luxury cars. It's clearly a big mistake when he comes test-driving the VF8 with the expectation that it is a "performance car". It's totally ridiculous to compare a family vehicle like VF8 to a performance one. Nobody does that! Also, VinFast NEVER publicly said VF8 is a "performance car". VF8 is in fact a great family car. Even Sandy Munro after his VF8 testdrving, clearly said VF8 is NOT a speed demon that you are going to find with cars like Tesla focusing only on speed, but VF8 has a plenty of things that at the end of the day make people happy, like cooled and heated seats found only in luxury vehicles! Surprisingly, performance cars like expensive Tesla are not clean either. According to an 8 year report published in March 2022, on average 7.5 Tesla cars catch fire or explode every year! A Tesla Model Y lost control hitting a power pole after killing 3 people last month in China. At the same time, a Tesla in front of a residence in Orange County in America suddenly caught fire for certain unknown reasons! Furthermore, Kyle keeps comparing ID.4 to VF8 in his video. However, theverge reported on 11/14/2022, "Volkswagen has given a name to its pain, and it is ‘software’" with sudden blank infotainment screens and the system taking time to boot or random shutdowns and reboots. In addition, thedriveradviser on 11/18/2022 pointed out 6 common problems of Volkswagen ID.4, which include brake problems, electrical issues, vehicle stalling, faulty seat belt assemblies, headlights problem and issues with soy-coat wiring. Go to any mechanics in America and ask them if a Volkswagen is worth buying! The answer most likely is NO! By the way, the bigger end up of the car key is the head where the brain is housed.

At the end of the video @39:50 you said, "This [VF8] is not a performance car". You actually rated the VF8 based on the standards of performance cars! Performance vehicles are commonly sports cars, muscle cars, or luxury cars. It's clearly a big mistake when you come test-driving the VF8 with the expectation that it is a "performance car". Surprisingly, you keep comparing ID.4 to VF8 in your video.

It's a bit pointless listing out all the failures of other cars BEFORE any significant amount of VinFast are on the road. You can list out numbers like "Toyota recalled over a million cars over fire risk", while some brands have never sold a million cars to begin with. You can't assume the VF8 will be any safer and you can't assume it's going to be less buggy in software, because there is still NONE on the road yet.

Complaining about a noisy interior, uncomfortable seats and software that doesn’t work properly has nothing to do with it being a performance vehicle or not. That’s whether or not it is a competent vehicle that is worth the price. This vehicle is not. Your dubious stats about Teslas catching fire and whatever you’re talking about with the id.4 is so incoherent that I’m just ignoring it. It’s completely irrelevant anyway.
@ymcpa73

@@ouch1011 I actually believe the Tesla stat. I initially thought she said 7.5 a day. When I noticed it's 7.5 a year, it's not that bad when considering they sold 1.3 million last year and 1 million the year before. I'm sure there are 7 teslas a year that are involved in bad enough accidents or have owners who seriously abuse the batteries. Some Tesla drivers drive aggressively and that car has a massive amount of torque. There are thousands of ICE car fires every year.

In addition to ID.4, Kyle recommended EV6 and Ioniq 5! Ioniq 5 users have reported many serious problems including forward collision avoidance malfunction, parking break problem, limited over air updates, false warning alerts, gear shifting problems, sharp decline in power and acceleration. The worst thing is that depreciation of Ioniq is up to 50% after just 5 years! Also, Kia EV6 is not immune from serious problems including brake problems unable to stop the EV from rolling backward, climate control and heating issues, noises from the front motor, split-use control problems, wiper problems affecting visibility in bad weather, small uncomfortable space inside as a result of the design shape, and software flaws. And the problems with ID.4 have been mentioned in this thread. Surprisingly, Kyle thought ID.4, EV6 and Ioniq 5 were better than VF8! Go figure.

I'm an VF8 owner in Vietnam, I had a chance to drive in Las Vegas during the last AWS reinvent. - The rear camera is a bug, not a feature... As you can see there are 2 camera in the back, one of them for 360 views, one of them for rear viewing, the 360 camera is not stable sometime it works sometime doesn't with my car :D. - About the price, they advertised the car with different price and apply many vouchers and discounts, so I think the MSRP is not exactly cost of ownership. - I agree that the noise is unacceptable in anything higher than 40mph. But it's not just about the car, it's a combination between road, tire and other cars as well. - I drove some 260HP in the states (ES350, QX60, Mustang) and I don't know what is the reason you think it's not 400HP. For me it's more powerful than them. I agree the software and AI is nightmare. I just want to disable all of them, include the map :D.

A VinFast dealer opened near my home and was holding a "cars-and-coffee" event, so my wife and I went. The cars on the showroom floor were for show, not "customer ready." I noticed fit and finish issues right away. I did test drive a car that was ready for demo drives and for sale and I observed the following: 1. Some of the functions on the touch screen didn't work, such as the side mirror adjustments. Not good, particularly when the car is on the move and you're trying to get something essential to function (windshield wipers). 2. This car feels very fast, but the power delivery is not smooth, gives you a big kick right off the line, even with a very light accelerator pedal. 3. The steering is way too light, almost like 1950s cars where you could spin the wheel with one finger, no road feel at all. 4. I didn't take it out on the freeway, but there was a lot of tire noise around town. IMHO, this car would be very tiring on a road trip, due to the high noise levels. 5. Even on this car, there were fit and finish issues. (I own a Genesis GV60 Advanced. The car I drove was close to it in list price, but let's just say I came away from this test drive with an even greater appreciation of the GV60. The VinFast sales people knew they weren't getting a sale from me.) Thank you for a great video review. VinFast needs to take such feedback seriously, or they will not last long in this market. @@oliviabethofort5546 How much did VinFast pay you to write that? Where in my comment did I say anything about performance? He said that lots of parts in the car are junky and it doesn't even have true OPD. I've had a Tesla Model Y for 2.5 years. No fires and I rarely use autopilot (I like to actually drive my cars - imagine that!), but the times that I have used it, it works perfectly. Kyle rated this compared to other vehicles in the same price range - and they all happen to have decent performance, even though they are not all billed as performance vehicles (Ioniq and ID.4 are not performance vehicles). It is an expectation when you are dealing with a vehicle that has instant torque that you can send it without an issue. He also made note of the poor ride quality and soundproofing, terrible door pulls, and sub par turning radius - none of which have to do with performance. As for VW, I have absolutely zero desire to ever own one, so I don't really need the condescending lecture about the ID.4.

Good idea. Many chinese manufacturers have started in Europe but hardly any are sold. We are all waiting for them to build the service network. Tesla took 8 years. I hope the Chinese, Vietnamese and Turks are faster.

The CEO of VinFast has zero clue of how the US market is and thinks Americans will just buy his cars. I give it 5 years before they leave the US market.

The brake regen should be set to low. Nobody sets it to high, the vehicle will auto brake too sudden and it is annoying, that’s why you feel bad driving it. I own one vf8 and it is awesome.

Wow, I like the accessibility/user serviceability for the under hood/frunk area, easy access to 12v, fluids, and fuses :)

This is why you need easy accessibility to the vf8 12V battery. kzbin.info/www/bejne/pavWn4OJbNiMla8

but but it's not lined with felt or leather! Mercedes would never allow this. *checks Mercedes EQ electric cars* wait, Mercedes don't offer frunks at all. The lack of power thing is probably true but this reviewer is looking for any tiny thing to rip on this car. From what i see, the car is probably crap to drive but damn this reviewer is harsh.

@@LeMauKhien Kyle was actually very professional in his review. As he mentioned the overwhelming majority of reviews on KZbin for the VF8 are from reviewers who accepted Vinfast's offer to be flown out to Vietnam to their facility/resort to 'test'/review their vehicle. I'm not accusing any of those reviewers of impropriety or anything unethical, the reviews that I've seen all gave the disclaimer that they were there at Vinfast's invitation & cost. But I personally take those reviews with a healthy dose of salt. I personally spent several months researching and testing EVs before I purchased mine (Polestar 2) last September, and Kyle's/Out of Spec's reviews were a helpful part of that process. If the final price point for the VF8 is going to be $50k+ USD I would expect a high level of build-quality performance and comfort in the vehicle. Maybe they should be aiming for a price/point comparison against a level of vehicle class such as the Chevy Bolt EUV instead of a VW ID4 or Polestar 2, ect.. I look forward to his future/more in-depth review of the VinFast VF8, where he would have the opportunity to review an actual production model in 'real-world' conditions. I as a viewer/consumer appreciate as much of a non-bias/paid-for review of vehicles. I personally welcome more quality EV into the marketplace and hope for a robust competitive EV market, since that will/should help benefit all of us, and I hope Vinfast, Fisker, and other 'newer' manufacturers can be part of it along with the more 'legacy' manufacturers.

Easier accessibility to potentially (owner/user/driver) serviceable parts such as the 12v, brake fluid, and 12v accessory fuses is something I wish my Polestar offered in its design. I'm not looking forward to having to unfasten the fancy fasteners holding down the plastic panels under the hood If I ever need to jump my 12v. Of course, I was taught/raised to perform some basic maintenance/repairs on my own vehicles growing up too.

Good job Kyle. Uhmmmm These communist people from Vietnamese government, they created these cars …..some the parts from China and some from Germany and assembly in Vietnam. Whoever come in Vietnam as a reviewers journalist, they butter them with all the goodies yes like TURKEYS. They just want to laundry their robbing money from the Vietnamese over there and bring it into USA. That’s a purpose. They don’t care whether it is profitable or not profitable. They don’t care about the safety. They plant to build a car factory in North Carolina to mainly laundry their dirty money into USA and flood their commie people into USA. I guess.
