I test drove this one on my channel few months ago and to me it did the craziest understeer every time I gave it the beans in the corners. It felt super unsafe to continue driving it "sporty" which kind of defies the purpose of having a car with 400+ hp and making the chassis so undriveable. I believe it's problem was the torque distribution between rear and front motors (obviously not programmed correctly) but it felt super bad in my view if you enjoy corners and do not use your car only for shopping and taking your kids to school... What's even funnier is - if you turn off the "performance" drive mode (which takes 10 taps on the screen) it actually drives much better in the corners.

I used to have a Volvo V50 for some years. I bought it with 72000k on the counter. That particular Volvo was a 1600D (with PSA motor). I only had it for one week when it shut down the engine when I was accelerating from 0-70. I was really scared because this also happened out of nowhere and cars behind you don't expect you to suddenly slow down that fast (I was going a little bit uphill). After shutting off the car and restarting it, the problem was gone (for a while). It happened a second time a few days later. I took it to a workshop and the problem appeared to be caused by the diesel being too dirty and the liquid to clean it was not replaced at 60000k. It seems a bit Volvo-like to shut down the engine power just like that. It is really dangerous. The engine management system should NEVER shut down the power of the engine just like that, no matter what! That Volvo V50 was the car that caused me the most trouble of any car I ever had. When it was not having problems (also the turbo was very bad), it drove really well. I spent more than €4500 on repairs before finally selling it because I was sick of that car.

There is really a need for smaller well rounded electric vehicle options that are affordably priced. Too many larger SUV options, and few traditional midsize, smaller in terms of current automotive sizing. Volvo if you're reading this, the Volvo EX30, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Rivian R3, etc. are all going to be very popular high volume EVs in markets they are available. It’s too small. The big screen in cars like a Tesla are usable while this one is unsafe to use while driving. Way too inconvenient for vital info like a speedometer. I really wanted to like this car but after getting in it and fiddling with the controls I realized it’s badly designed. It lacks many features you expect on a premium car like a Volvo. The rear seats are a pain in the butt to get down if you want to increase the trunk space. I’m surprised there are so many reviews hyping the car. It’s very cute and cool but not easy to live with.

I had a similar issue with my Smart #3 Brabus when I exited a tight curve with almost full power and the rear came...then that error message appeared and the reduced power. Car didn't shut down though but power was reduced for a while before the error message disappeared and power came back on. I have the latest software (from October 2024), so I guess it is the same issue but they adapted the software. I assume that the electric motors get into some issues with synchronization and the error appears when you drive it too hard. The Smart #3 Brabus chassis feels a bit sportier than the EX30 chassis. Steering is not much different though, maybe a tiny bit more direct. Power is 428 hp, not 400 hp, JFYI.

If you spec this car to standard Tesla equipment you can get a much bigger Model Y SR (in NL) and keep a few thousands in your pocket. I really like the looks of it though.
@Martin-dx5zs5 ай бұрын
In the UK, the EX30 can be speced out with every option (Ultra trim, large battery, twin motor Performance) for the same money as a RWD SR Model Y. It may be bigger, but it’s far slower and missing features such as auto lane change, auto park, and premium connectivity for 4 years. It’s also more than twice as slow.

Comes down to the back seats and if they work for you imo! For us, we almost never have people in the back, but the size won’t work for everyone.

It so interesting following an american mind when talking about citys and their areas. When Kyle says "entering Innsbruck Area" I guarantee that the residents of the town "Schwaz" (where you have been actually at that time) and those from Innsbruck would not agree. Schwaz is a soley independet town 30km before Innsbruck, and many independent villages are following before you reach Innsbruck. But if course in US-dimensions Innsbruck-Area starts right behind the border to Germany. But anyway, good Video and thanks for the scenic drive through Kufstein, the Inn Valley, Schwaz, the Achensee Region and more which are all located in Tirol (well technically a part of Austria, but we are not prowd of that fact ;-).

Looks like the issue i had with my brand new MG4. When in high speed, letting go of gas and regen kicks in. It then said "HV battery shutdown", would roll to a full halt. Happened 5-6 times and i could force the error. Software updates at the shop fixed it.

I don’t trust Volvo to long term support the software. They already are differentiating XC40 recharge and this new car. So in 5 years they release a new platform and drop this car. I only trust Tesla and Rivian I would never buy a new car from the old manufacturers they just don’t get it. This new EX30 entry trim have so much optionals, the base model is so underwhelming. No thanks.

That looked like a “YV” VIN country code, which would be Sweden. Which is a bit curious but unsurprising. This seems *very* much like a spiritual successor to the BMW i3, in terms of size, interior design and materials, and overall quirkiness.
@nfc1535 ай бұрын
Yes - YV1 is Volvo (Sweden) although EU manufacturers can lump all EU production against a single code so Belgium builds could also carry YV1. Are the press cars finished in Gent/Ghent?

@@nfc153interesting! I didn’t know about them being able to lump manufacturing together like that. Would certainly make bookkeeping easier within a region.

Hi, has it got its own voice assistant or I need to connect my phone? Can I ask the voice assistant to launch apps like radio, change station, modify volume? Can I ask to pick up a income voice phone call, read or reply to a text message? Maybe while maps navigating multitasking?

I don't think regen when ABS in use is safe... the regen power is still considerable, and if it is rear-wheel drive, you can still partially lock the wheel up with full regen breaking only.

Part of the reason they recommend charging to 90% might be because of the issue with regenerative braking at full charge.

If possible get the dual motor variant, due to the excessive force on the tires. In the long term you’ll get back the money you spent on the dual motor

I got really interested in the VIN so I checked it out. YV means ... Sweden. YV1 means VolvoCars specifically in Sweden. YV1 Volvo Cars car[17] YV2 Volvo Trucks[17] YV3 Volvo Buses[17] YV4 Volvo Cars SUV YV5 Volvo Trucks incomplete vehicle If it were LYV then it would be Volvos factory in China. I wonder if the test car you have there is a super specific example of one made in the swedish factory. Probably just a few that would have been that. It might be that they just brought all the parts to the Torslanda factory and assembled there. For probably a big cost. super interesting!

Speaking to regen when at 100% charge. The second you move it is below 100%. Energy conversion only gives you a percentage of what was used getting moving. So, if you use 1 kWh going 3 miles and slow to stop the battery will only be charged by maybe 0.8 kWh. The software is just screwed so quit excusing it saying it won’t regen at 100%.
