Few parts of the nation are without issues with weather, dry and extra-hot much of the year, hot and humid, more than their share of storms, flood events etc. Still seems most see real winters as the worst scourge as AC for home and to car, to work, to strip mall and get fragile for real cold. Since the 90s, Chicago got pro-active in clearing out the worst blight as you see a lot here of empty lots and stand-alone homes where once that was more filled with homes. It has superior trash pick-up and is a city 90% of its streets have a utilitarian alley behind them for the trash bins and lined with garages and where most if its power-lines and poles are. It is a city of setbacks for housing for green-space and trees. Outside of winter.... even its hoods get street sweeper cleanings at least twice a month and main arteries more. Also it is not as intense a littering city. Why its core and good neighborhoods get a looking darn clean with uniform sidewalks look. Far less row-housing as in the East on narrow streets. These southside hoods tended to have even wider streets as they were far more affluent originally and once severe white-flight took wealth and gov redlining told banks it was not to get its FHA and GI loans. We created more our hoods than not.

@@SoSikWitIt I think you can see the effects of red lining in many US cities, I get what you mean about gentrification I just watched a program on Portland Oregon where like you say home prices went way up, though it does not seem to be the case in other US cities Baltimore clearly has major problems and it is in areas that were formely red lined. I understand places with high crime are unlikely to have whites moving in there on mass like in Portland, places like Chicago and New York are probably a bit different to other cities as they have had high demand compared to other cities like St Louis, Dayton Ohio, Cleveland, those cities all show the effects of segregation and home prices remain cheap in bad areas.

Austin is all black and urban with lots of crime but as soon as you go under the bridge to oak lawn its like a whole different world. The west and southside of chicago is cheap for a reason cause blacks and brown live there and its crime. There is no desire for a white person to want to move into 1 of those neighboorhoods when there is the neighboorhoods up north and outskirts in cookcounty

He was probably just googled the highest crime area and just went there again. I am pretty sure he went by the nortorious 0-block low-rise housing project. Area merely got some newer retail box stores, but has plenty of lost buildings on them main streets and lots of empty lots off them in the neighborhood blocks of homes. Surely you saw all these empty lots? Chicago is just far more proactive in removing abandoned housing starting in the 90s. Once thery seen a too far gone.... its boarded up by the city with a rex-X in front as basic as lly condemned. Eventually denolished back to just grass lots and trees again. The city is maintained, all streets get street-sweeper cleanings May thru October into Nov off main streets at least twice a month and main streets more. Trash removal is maintained thru its alleys 90% of the city has. Still shows many gar as ges still there for some homes left. Mostly the alleys have the powerline grid and ugly poles freeing fronts for them still soaring trees on its grid of housing blocks homes are set back from the streets for green. This gives the city a green look outside of winter and wider streets than many eastern cities of tight row-housing to the streets no set-back. These hoods were originally not with those empty lots and a far more affluent middle-class neighborhood once. In gact if a block Charlieboi goes down has more nice intact homes.... he cuts that portion out in edits. Chicago again does not get on Charliebois videos of worst-looking hoods. It is in general clea er and greener with great architecture.

Chicago is definitely dangerous in some parts. It doesn't "look that bad" because the city engaged in slum clearance and building public housing projects more than any US city, possibly on a level comparable to UK cities like Manchester and Liverpool. The really squalid tenements that the city used to be famous for were torn down ages ago. That said, looks aren't everything. Chicago isn't Rio de Janeiro or Johannesburg bad, but still pretty damn dangerous in places by almost any standard.
