Welcome to another video :)
Today I travel from Fort William to Mallaig on the A830 which comes with fantastic scenery and some popular tourist hotspots along the way. The most notable being Glenfinnan, where tourists pack out to see the viaduct and ‘Harry potter train’
I’ve done the rail journey on a previous video, you can check that out on my channel. So it’s nice to compare it with the journey by road. What do you think? Leave a comment below 👇 It’s an incredibly busy road for most of the year and I would advise leaving plenty time for your journey and plan ahead.
Here's some information about the A830:
A830 Road (Fort William to Mallaig)
1. **Route and Scenery**: The A830 runs from Fort William to Mallaig, covering approximately 46 miles. It is renowned for its stunning coastal and mountainous scenery, passing through beautiful landscapes
2**Historical Significance**: The A830 is part of the historic "Road to the Isles," a route rich in cultural heritage and Scottish history. It offers travelers a glimpse into the region's past, from Jacobite uprisings to traditional crofting communities.
3 **West Highland Line**: Running parallel to much of the A830 is the West Highland Line, one of the most scenic railway lines in the world. The Jacobite steam train, featured in the Harry Potter films, operates on this line and crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct.
4**Wildlife and Activities**: The area along the A830 is ideal for outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and wildlife spotting. The road's proximity to the coast and various lochs provides ample opportunities for adventure and exploration.
5**Improvements and Safety**: The A830 has seen significant improvements over the years, including upgrades to sections that were previously single-track, enhancing safety and travel efficiency.
Travel Tips
The A830 road from Fort William to Mallaig offers a memorable journey through some of Scotland's most picturesque landscapes, making it a must-see for visitors to the region.

Again thank you, another road that I love especially in autumn when the colours are fabulous.

I first travelled that road in 1967 when it was mostly tortuous single track. Easy drive now but much less scenic - it used to feel remote West Highland but not now. The road signs are Cumbernauld-like ridiculously huge signs directing to small settlements or crofts.

Glennfinnan. Utter chaos 4 times a day just to see a stream train take 1 mins to cross a viaduct.
