Welcome to another video.
On my previous video I filmed the majestic Glen Etive in the Scottish Highlands, which is accessible by the A82 trunk road through Glencoe.
I decided to film my journey home travelling West towards Ballachullish. Many people have suggested to me that the journey West is the much more scenic that South East down towards Tyndrum and Crianlarich. Let me know what you think in the comments, my mind is made up :)
This particular day was a rare, cold, crisp and sunny day. Perfect for marvelling at the raw beauty of the Scottish Highlands. Enjoy the video!😀
A82 Glencoe Road is a stretch of highway in Scotland that passes through the scenic Glencoe Valley. Here are some facts about it:
1. *Location:* The A82 Glencoe Road runs through the Scottish Highlands, connecting Glasgow in the south to Inverness in the north.
2. *Scenic Route:* It is renowned for its stunning scenery, winding through dramatic landscapes including mountains, lochs, and moors.
3. *Historical Significance:* Glencoe Valley is infamous for the Glencoe Massacre of 1692, where members of the MacDonald clan were killed by government forces.
4. *Tourist Destination:* The road is a popular route for tourists, offering opportunities for hiking, photography, and wildlife spotting.
5. *Challenging Driving Conditions:* Due to its mountainous terrain and unpredictable weather, driving on the A82 Glencoe Road can be challenging, especially in winter.
6. *Maintenance:* The road requires regular maintenance due to the harsh weather conditions, including snow and ice in winter and heavy rainfall throughout the year.
7. *Historic Sites:* Along the route, there are various historic sites and attractions, including castles, ruins, and ancient monuments, adding to its appeal for visitors.
Overall, the A82 Glencoe Road is not only a vital transportation route but also a gateway to experiencing the natural beauty and history of the Scottish Highlands.

How could anyone not fall in love with this place.. I would have absolutely given anything to have been able to live there and see all this every day of my life.. have visited quite a few times in the past and always felt so sad leaving.. its definitely a part of our little island that is so very worth visiting.❤

Totally agree with your sentiments, and yet so few people from the UK have ever ventured up to these stunning areas, including (incredibly) plenty of Scots. I visit The Highlands 2-3 times a year, and my favourite break is the 2 week holiday my wife and myself spend just before Christmas each year in The Cairngorms...

@@BibTheBoulderTheOriginalOne we stayed in a cottage in Onich end at of November ,it evidently use to be a shop and petrol place, its was absolutely amazing, loved every second of it,we even got a little dusting of snow which made the scenery look like the mountains were painted autumnal gold with a dusting of icing sugar.. have normally gone in the summer but autumn was by far the best.. for anyone who appreciates nature and its gifts then the Highlands is a must, even if its just once in a lifetime.. it always makes me feel quite emotional surrounded by all those majestic mountains etc. However its quite a haul from one end of the country to the other, so probably at my age I've made my last trip.. unless I look into coaching holidays.

We drive from Warwickshire but split the journey overnight in Warrington (can recommend the Premier Inn at M6 junction 21). We go every year to Newtonmore and never fail to get snow, sometimes a far few feet of the stuff. As you say, the views are truly breathtaking. We hate leaving to head south. Indeed I would happily relocate to the Highlands if I could afford to retire...@@vanessamoyes6243

As good as your video is, you really have to experience it in person to get the most of it. I drove through it for the first time last year and I’m Scottish! And 52! It truly is magical.🙂

Extraordinary, incredibly beautiful, thank you. The thing about the mountains in Scotland, is that while they are impressive they are kind of gentle, rounded; soft to look at. Is that because they are geologically old, ancient, weathered, and worn away? ... That shot at 2:37 - just gorgeous, the snow-clad valley ahead, the clouds ... what an extraordinary country. How lucky you are to live there ♥

The soft rounded appearance is largely due to glaciation during the last ice age; and to the type of rock. Visit Skye and you’ll see a difference in geology between the Black Cuillins and the Red Cuillins.

The Scottish mountains owe their current appearance to the process of erosion. Initially, they would have reached heights comparable to the French Alps or the Himalayas. Roughly 200 million years ago, the Scottish Highlands, Appalachian Mountains, and the Atlas Mountains formed a single extensive mountain range known as the Central Pangean range. However, the passage of time, along with weathering and glaciation, has gradually diminished their majestic peaks and smoothed out their rugged edges, resulting in the distinct appearance they possess today.

@@OrganMusicYT Thank you for your replies. It has sent me to google, to do more research. Living in the Southern Hemisphere (NZ) we know and hear more about the origins of our own country in Gondwanaland. We are not so familiar with Pangaea. I find these things fascinating ... I do not think there is any other place on earth that looks like the Highlands though - unless they are forest covered and we cannot see the underlying shapes. Thank you again 🙂

I'm lucky enough to call Scotland home. I was fortunate to have to drive my lorry through Glencoe once every week for 6 years. I don't think I've seen it looking the same twice, the lighting is stunning and constantly changing. You can get 4 seasons in one day! Now I'm retired, I regularly drive up the A82 in my motorhome and can stop at my leisure. A word of warning. If you stop off at any of the parking areas, many have deep pot holes, often full of water. Not the best place to disable your car!

Spot on Davy, the potholes are treacherous. For such a popular road and beauty, it’s ridiculous it’s not been upgraded in recent years.

Quite the detour, but take the A721 /A72 towards Peebles, which you can access south of Glasgow on the M74, then cutting east towards Carluke. From Peebles the A703 will take you North towards Edinburgh. Beautiful countryside along the way and Peebles is a beautiful little town. Should take you around 21/2 hours to complete. Hope this helps! Liam

Beautiful video but you were driving far, far too close to the wee red car in front, particularly through the Meeting of the Three Waters section. Vehicles can and do stop suddenly on this road if the driver sees a lay-by.
