Matt, In the recent past, I started sharing some of your videos with my older brother. He loves KZbin and your videos. He was quite the handyman and tinkerer such as yourself. I knew your mechanical inclination and love for classic heavy machinery would be right up his alley. This morning as I sat watching your new video particularly when you brought the haul truck in for its first load, I became very nostalgic. As kids, back in the '70's, we spent countless hours performing these very same tasks in miniature with our extensive fleet of Tonka Trucks. We probably moved (what we thought were) hundreds of yards of earth. About 15 years ago, he loved helping me work on my bigger toy, a Cummins Diesel powered M818 military truck. However, those days are but mere memories for me now. You see, in the early morning hours of this past Thursday and Independence Day, the 4th of July 2024, my big brother passed into eternal rest finally succumbing after a long fight to ravages of cancer. I learned a lot from his self-taught expertise and acquired a love for all things mechanical from him. Your videos will always offer me a connection to those great times we shared. His name was Tim and he was a great man and a fantastic big brother. May he forever rest easy...

Viewers enjoy watching these videos because they like seeing Matt’s heavy equipment being used in the hands of a pro. I’m no expert, but it seemed every pass he made was on target and leading up to a result he could see in his 3D mind. No wasted motion. Can other operators shake the dirt out of tree roots? Not only does he have a long term vision for his roads, shop, house, pond and who knows what else he has for us in the future, but he can see exactly what he must move to get the material he needs today, and he grades the area correctly. Next he improves a short road that’s perfect short of guard rails. And he does all this ALONE. You gotta admire his vision and work ethic. Editing and photography: Time lapse on fire, speeding up sections to show faster progress, view from the dozer, other editing to keep our interest and is getting better every week. This keeps his thousands of followers liking and subscribing, Matt is entertaining, fun to watch.

@@DieselCreek FWIW, About thirty years ago we had a local golf course that wanted to install a decorative water spaying fountain on the golf course. It was located on a ditch that was fed by a small spring about a quarter of a mile away. The feed pool for the fountain they constructed was too small to even float a row boat. The EPA came in and threatened to fine the owners for constructing and obstructing a waterway. I can not even imagine the paperwork and fees involved today here in SW PA for doing a pond of the size that you have planned.

@@bobs1345, I watch another KZbin channel with an English guy named Colin Furze. He does some crazy stuff and is building a tunnel from a bunker on the back of his property to the house and onto an underground garage. Matt, one thing I admire about your work is that you don't settle for "quick and dirty", but you take the time to do things right (or you explain why you didn't). You know the difference between what you want and what you see, and you know it matters. I have worked with plenty of "dirt workers" who don't know or don't care, and they take the path of least resistance, and the quality of their work suffers. Roads wash out, septic systems fail, foundations settle, and they always blame it on someone else, but the problem began with shoddy dirt work. I realize they have pressure on them to get a job done and get paid, which is probably less of an issue for you, and I know what it's like to get pushed to get more done in less time (and I hate it!). Our culture today puts too much emphasis on quick/quantity and too little on quality, in my opinion.

Matt, I love the pond idea, can you show us what you have in mind. I was trying to understand exactly it will fill in. What a lovely thing to have and build yourself.

If you are building a pond. Suggestion: put some heavy boards in a frame so that you can regulate the level by taking out or add boards.

Out of curiosity what is wrong with a properly constructed earthen dam with an overflow and or a spillway. Seems to me that a wooden spillway would be a continuous maintenance problem but then again I have never constructed a pond but I have stayed at a Holiday Inn Express and watched few LetsDig and DirtPerfect videos. 😁 Have a great day and a better tomorrow

@@gullreefclub Nothing wrong with that, but if you want to regulate the level, or even drain the pond for some reason. boards are a relativley simple solution

Again and again thank you for these amazing videos Mat! It would be a real pleasure to come and see this show But here from France it is "a little" far! But I am sure that beautiful videos will cover this event. In the meantime that would be nice to see again some material absent for a long time... I think Christine for example!? And so many other machines so amazing! While waiting for the continuation of all these projects always supported by these musical compositions which stick so well to this channel Salutation!

Hey matt! I used to Work for ADS, the company that made that culvert. They say that for most of those when you have equipment driving over them, you should try for 24in of material on top of it. That you have on 39:36 looks pretty good!

That borrow pit looks like an _excellent_ place for your cable shovel to do some digging! A face shovel is just what that thing calls for if you made a path down into it for a dumper.
