That's something I feel this game captures really well, personally. IRL shipbreaking is insanely dangerous and can _easily_ turn deadly at a moment's notice. Plus it allows you to strategize and form a plan for every ship you run into. Love this game

You have hands, "Z" and "X" will let you grab stuff and stop yourself, alternating them will let you crawl across the ship. Also, you can pull yourself by right clicking the grapple

drae it doesnt have to be the laser reflecting off of metal to ignite the tank. just the sparks from the laser are capable of blowing up the fuel tanks and other explosives. also you can use the grapple to reel yourself in to the hub when you need oxygen

This is wrong, its fine as long as youre not cutting anything directly connected or fuel lines itself. What he did was cut the fuel line, this set it on fire which caused the tank next to it to explode.

Some fuel tsnks need to be vented before they can move (you can't pull this type off) while others you can just pull off. Also, I use the spiller when working near fuel tanks/explosives, as this doesn't bounce like the beam. So is much safer for cutting cut points.

One needs to flush the fuel to use a laser cutter on it, you can see if the pipes have fuel in them if they have glowing lights

hey drae! this is one of my favorite games i've ever had the joy of playing, and you actually got me into it! i see a lot of people talking about the suit durability thing you were confused about, but i want to give a little tip about sizing up your salvage reports! weight isn't value! many very small pieces are actually some of the most valuable parts of the ship. in particular, airlock consoles, which look just like normal door control consoles, but specifically go into/out of airlocks, are worth a whole bunch, and can easily get thrown away into a furnace or processor! always check for electronic doohickeys and thingamajigs inside and around a piece of the ship before you get rid of it, it makes it a lot easier to hit those tier 5 salvage goals (which also go by monetary value salvaged rather than weight!) so that you can level up and upgrade your gear! the level 4 and 5 goals can even give you free repair kits to keep your tools in tip top shape! happy scrapping :D

So, a few lessons here if you do decide to play through the entire billion: 1. Don't get in the habit of pushing yourself towards stuff. It is uncontrollable and dangerous once you get a few push upgrades in. You can latch on to something heavier and pull yourself towards it in the same way you pull smaller things towards you. Far more controllable. 2. Anything connected to a fuel tank is live, the same way it would be IRL. Typically it will have lights on it making you aware that it is live, but it isn't always immediately clear. This applies to most of the hazards, really. I.E. Don't mess with anything live unless you have no choice, and plan it out if it is absolutely necessary. 3. Just general advice, and it takes a few ships to get good at it, but try to form a plan wherever possible. I.E. Safety being FIRST, (No matter who may insist it is third.) try and disarm every system you can as early as you can and equalize the pressurization in one way or another. After that, decide how you want to pick it apart and plan your attack. I'm in love with this game! It is right up my alley. I don't know how many hours since *early* early access, and I still get a kick out of it. I would love to see you play it all the way through. Or at least till something better comes along for the channel.

I feel like I need to point this out. When using the grapple thingo and you reel things into yourself it only works when they are small enough. If you give them enough speed they can hurt you when they hit you. You can also use the fact that you can't pull things that are too heavy towards yourself. But you can be pulled to them. Use that like a grapple gun. The weird yellow things are good to grapple off. A whole ship or the hub. I use it to finish my day at top speed.

Grab and move the explosives away from your lasers before you cut. Also some ships require you to interact with a lever to flush the fuel lines so they don't also explode. Look for that before you touch them, then grab and move gently to the other side of the hull while you cut walls off or whatever

The suit bar doesn't get any higher than that until you upgrade your suit, the whole bar is basically at max upgrade. Also, pressing Z and X together puts your hands in front of you, it softens impacts if you are traveling too quickly

Drae so, what you cut was the outflow for the tank most likely w/out clearing the system of fuel. should be a valve somewhere in most cases. Correction - Those can just be detached with the grapple like lights

it depends on the system- but you always need to get the fuel out of it somehow before you go lasering! some you have to flick a switch to drain it, others you just pull off the tank. usually its the big ones you have to find a switch for, while little tanks can be yanked off with the grapple

Drae, to use the suit repair kits you need to have damaged your suit. If your helmet’s cracked, the game lets you use one, if not, the game doesn’t let you use one. Also, you can use the grapple gun to pull yourself towards objects heavier that you, like the kiosk, which can save you should your helmet be busted open.

You can use your grapple to pull to the hab or the big X things instead of pushing off of the ship. More control as long as you brake in time. Push works for braking in a pinch, as does grabbing at the walls. IMO best way of seeing at a glance if something is detached from the rest is looking at the weights on your HUD when you mouse over it. If the total weight matches the weight in brackets the component is completely detached, and otherwise compare the total weight of the bit with the thing you want it to be detached from. Tho I’m a wuss who plays on open shift with oxygen turned off. My excuse is I have a lot of trouble keeping my bearings in 3D space (I get lost all the time in FPS games even without the added dimension of weightlessness) so I’m wasting half my time just trying to figure out where I am

good tip when salvaging smal ships do 2 runs at the same ship the first run you remove all the conections and the 2 time you can sell at of it really fast

Suit patch kits only patch holes in your suit. You can get smaller holes in your suit. You increase the hp of your suit through upgrades but the 4 hp bars is your base health.

Also, if you ignite the fuel in the pipes, the fire will travel through the pipes into the tank causing an explosion. In order to prevent this, eject the fuel from the system (like you did with the second ship) or just remove the fuel tanks.

pro tip: you use suit patch kits only when your helmet has a crack or hole. pro tip 2: if you grapple onto the vending area and hold right click it can drag you to it instead of having to use the push. :)

Not sure you know, but you can find a bunny and a poster on the ship where you first remove the reactor. the bunny can be found at the front and the poster next to the reactor, both can be pitted up for your hub.

Drae, the splitsaw is the best tool to destory the cut points, so id suggest to use it as much as possible. Also regarding the new ships with the quasar thrusters, disassamble those at first cuz when you do it with less than 50 tons remaining, the ship gets yeeted through the whole bay

Right now your suit integrity (Max HP) is low. So while it looks like you need to repair your suit, you're at max. You only need to repair equipment like lasers and stuff regularly with repair kits but if your suit takes damage you buy a patch kit from the terminal while on a job. Patch kits are used immediatley so only buy one when you need it.

You have to flush fuel pipes before you cut them. You shouldn't even cut them on that ship because they keep side panels together when you move them to processor.
