I sympathize with my fellow Africans but I am yet to understand the really issue as VAT and import VAT have been in Namibia🇳🇦 since, recently in the past years VAT on basic goods (bread and some vegetables) have been dropped including sanitary pads but they are still expensive in my view for an average or unemployed Namibians. Also how will GRN provide basic education and healthcare in hospitals if they don’t finance the budget properly.
@ajwangO478-xk4zs3 ай бұрын
*@Ndeumona-Scho* The uncomplicated answer is that Kenyans are already overtaxed as it is, and introducing more taxes is simply unmanageable. Under normal circumstances, Kenyans of all ages are some of the most loyal and peaceful people, and can endure a lot of burden without flinching. So, when you see them coming out in their numbers and saying no, it simply means their President and his Government have overdone it. The Finance Bill 2024/2025 is not only proposing swingeing hikes to the existing taxes, but also making them obnoxiously granular and invasive. One gets the feeling that you owe your whole life to the Government of Kenya by dint of being born there and that all you have belongs to the Government. Besides, the most galling thing is that the same President Ruto and his Government are engaged in demonstrable grand theft, pilferage and wastage of the tax resources that they collect. So why give them more to misuse, hiding under the tired banner of paying off "loans". Nobody knows for certain the terms and conditions of those so-called "loans" and to whom they are owed. There's complete opaqueness about the loans, and most of them, seemingly, are odious and phantom anyway. There's absolutely no accountability regarding the tax proceeds and how they are deployed. It isn't a question of Kenyans not wanting to pay taxes at all. They're already having one of the highest and harshest tax regimes in the World. Kenyans are very patriotic and patient and would pay, if only they could be made to understand where and how their money is used for the common good. And lastly, sometimes it pays to demonstrate humility and listen to ordinary citizens, instead of the arrogance and casual dismissiveness the President and his minions have been displaying in the lead to this stand-off. So, yeah, the slogan is quite apt: "Reject The Finance Bill"; in its entirety, I might add.

Taxes? In the US, everyone gets taxed on income, every item they purchase, all food, property tax (they have always taxed and will tax- if not they will take it), state taxes, federal taxes, restaurant taxes, electric taxes, water bill taxes, phone taxes-every single item. People want more from the government but don’t understand that comes from taxes.
@carol-Cece3 ай бұрын
The issue is not taxes, as countries cannot live without taxes. One of the issue people have is Kenya is a very young country, just gained independence in the 1960’s. You cannot add a 22% tax hike on people who are barely starting to understand taxes and how that affects citizens and development. It has to be done in small steps. America on the other hand gained its independence in 1700’s and introduced its tax in mid 1860’s and so the tax hikes are not as drastic as it’s not as new.

This were 🇰🇪s protesting in Denmark 🇩🇰 In solidarity with fellow Kenyans in Kenya. For a bill that had intentions to overtax us and steal from us. We pay taxes here-and not in America. Our taxes are looted every single day with less to show in our country in terms of development and delivery of services (But politicians live in opulence off our taxes-and this is our way of telling them we will not take it anymore) We do not want "more" from our Government. We want accountability and return of all looted money from our coffers. As an American in America. You cannot understand this-but for Kish who has his parents and friends here he feels every bit of pain and suffering these politicians who are subject to IMF/World Bank and all other Recolonizers have put us in. And so I support his demo in Denmark and he supports us here in Kenya.

We are not there yet but that’s what the country want. Also once they get this tax it they steal all the money. Remember they will also tax cancer treatment making it even more expensive while in your SA medical care is for free. If they give us free healthcare they can even tax more if they want
@sospeterodongo69663 ай бұрын
You do not understand we have double taxations every item you buy there's 16% VAT wich is incresed almost all year,last year was the same this year they added 200 more taxes on top of what we pay,e.g bread another 16% nit that we do not pay taxes we do but after borrowing money the just steal no development done & we end up paying and they boast and show how much they have rubbing it in the stolen money giving millions in churches every weekend and ridiculous lifestyles once one is elected

It really doesn't matter where they're protesting, since the message is still reaching our own local neo-colonialists who are having a stranglehold over the lives of Kenyans. Besides, having the message spread out in some of those countries in the West, to whom the Kenyan government is beholden, is extremely important.

It's always people from abroad complaining about a countries way of life. If you don't like Denmark, then you can go back to Kenya.... No? Then don't complain (You have a far better life in Denmark compared to Kenya). Also you should be waving the Danish flag, not the Kenyan flag (It's not Kenya and disrespectful). I am Native English, but I would never fly my flag on the streets of Denmark (My flag only belongs in the UK or my house). I see this as being a public nuisance to the Danish.
@kish_myworld3 ай бұрын
I see you as a public nuisance to the world! Be smarter than this pls
@InfoSpectrum8763 ай бұрын
@crystalfoxdusty, do you even know what time of the day it is? This has nothing to do with Denmark. These are Kenyans who live outside Kenya, protesting about the Finance Bill 2024 that the Kenyan government passed in parliament, and had to withdraw after after nationwide protests in Kenya. If you didn't understand what was going on you should have just asked, instead of coming on here bashing people out of your ignorance. Shame on you. Oh, in case you didn't know, it's perfectly alright to use any country's flag in Denmark, whether it's at a demonstration/protest, party, celebration, sporting events, etc. You just cannot fly it on a flagpole (soon to become law).
