Quick story. Wife and I met Wolf the first day of this tournament. Would never have guessed he was on 3 hours of sleep. He was first class, took pictures and interacted with tons of fans not just us. Truly his success is well deserved.

Its not easy like that, the move only has 64% to hit both target. That 8 times you talk about is the whole video or which match, so I can redo the cal for you Edit: the video is quite long so I would just assume 8 times he click, no target use protect, and when he miss, he only miss 1 target. Then he miss 7/16= 43.75%. Which is unlucky but not like insanely unlucky. There is a joke that a move that is not 100% accuracy then its 50% accuracy. And its hilariously true for this instance

Hi Wolfey !! I'm not the type to comment on videos, ahah, but I just wanted to give you some words of encouragement. You're the one who got me acquainted with the Pokemon Competitive format, though I don't think I have the time to really study up and try competitive myself. I still find the content enjoying and really interesting to watch. I love watching people coming up with new strategies as the game evolves with time. I was watching the tournament on stream, and rooted for you the entire time !! I just wanted to cheer on the silly little guy who introduced me to a side of the community i've never been in touch with before. I really admire you for staying humble and wanting to have fun while still trying to win your matches. The finals was CRAZY ahahah I really loved it and you deserved your victory. I just wanted to thank you for putting amazing content out here (thank you to the editors as well) and never missing an occasion to make me laugh !! :) If by any chance you happen to make a stop in France for a tournament, make sure to mention it SOMEWHERE because I WILL be there ahahahah. That's very unlikely to happen, but I'll still watch the tournaments you take part in on stream !! Just know that you have a silly little fan in France, and that your community will keep on growing !! Thank you for being goofy! And keep having fun with the game ! also take time to rest you don't want to have another burnout lol

Wolfey's vids are so inspirational with his attitude towards competition and growing as a player, its incredible that you allow everyone to peek into what its like to be one of the best players in the world, one of the few that could become a world champion or even a double world champion. Seriously thank you for putting this much effort into your videos and bringing such a broad audiance the chance to see competitive pokemon.

8:58 This interaction only happens if the move used already had an effect for Sheer Force to negate. For example, if a Sheer Force Pokémon holding the Life Orb uses Earthquake, then the Life Orb damage will not be negated.
@keysmash_roa
@keysmash_roa 3 ай бұрын
That's somehow even weirder
@prismatic_pulse
@prismatic_pulse 3 ай бұрын
@@keysmash_roa This is because attacks without secondary effects do not get boosted by Sheer Force, but they'll still receive the damage boost from the Life Orb. In this example Earthquake receives only the 1.3x boost from the Life Orb. However, if Earthquake _did_ have a secondary effect to negate, it would receive the 1.3x boost from both Sheer Force and the Life Orb. My guess is that Sheer Force treats the Life Orb recoil as the move's effect, therefore negating it.
@latbil
@latbil 3 ай бұрын
@@prismatic_pulsebut even that doesn’t quite explain it, as if Life Orb was treated as a secondary effect universally, you would never take any Life Orb recoil w/ a Sheer Force pokemon, even using a move like earthquake. It’s like the game only negates the life orb recoil if it can bundle up the Life Orb damage with an ACTUAL secondary effect, in which case it negates both. Still, that may not be exactly what’s happening under the hood - it’s just SUCH a weird interaction (it may well be a bug)
@LOS18
@LOS18 3 ай бұрын
@@latbil if it were a bug then it wouldn't have been in every version of the game since sheer force was added. they clearly know about it too since it is a strategy used in tournament-winning teams. doesn't mean it isn't a weird interaction though.

@rabbits2345 3 ай бұрын
Tbh this is one of those interactions I have just memorized but I truly have no explanation for why it works. If life orb recoil is a secondary effect, then why is there recoil when using a non sheer force boosted move? Idk all I know of sheer force + life orb = big numbers
